Chapter Thirty-Two: Becoming the Holy Son
But Lu Xingchen’s “Jade Shatter” talent was overwhelmingly powerful. After a brief stalemate, Lu Xingchen’s battle qi sword blade shattered Lin Jing’s shield and then fiercely collided with her longsword.
Lin Jing was sent flying backward, her sword falling from her hand as she spat out a mouthful of blood in midair before crashing to the ground outside the arena.
The crowd erupted in astonishment.
“No way, Lu Xingchen actually won!”
“He’s only been with the Lingxiao Sect for three months! A new disciple defeating Senior Sister Lin Jing?”
“Lu Xingchen’s talent might not be any weaker than Senior Brother Lin Xu!”
“The Lingxiao Sect is about to change hands.”
Watching Lin Jing lying on the ground, Hu Junfeng’s eyes were filled with disbelief.
A month ago, Lu Xingchen could barely defeat an opponent at his suppressed level.
Yet now, he had bested Lin Jing, whom even Hu Junfeng himself couldn’t overcome.
The title of the foremost young talent in the Lingxiao Sect was likely to be taken over!
Xiao Yue stared fixedly at Lu Xingchen standing atop the platform, her face turning pale.
The worthless person she once despised had become someone she could only look up to.
There was no place left for her in the Lingxiao Sect.
If Lu Xingchen ever found out she had sent assassins after him, he would surely retaliate fiercely.
While the crowd was still in shock, Xiao Yue turned and left the arena, retreating to her room to pack and flee the Lingxiao Sect.
Yi Hong was equally stunned, staring blankly at Lu Xingchen.
Lu Xingchen sheathed his Shadow Sword and smiled lightly. “Sect Leader Yi, may I announce the result now?”
Only then did Yi Hong snap out of his daze and loudly proclaim, “Lu Xingchen is the victor!”
“Is there anyone else who wishes to challenge Lu Xingchen?”
The murmurs from below the arena never ceased, but no chief disciple dared to step forward.
After all, even Hu Junfeng and Lin Jing were defeated—who else would risk a beating?
Five minutes passed in silence.
Yi Hong raised his voice again: “I hereby declare the Lingxiao Sect Holy Son Selection Competition concluded. Lu Xingchen is the new generation Holy Son!”
Thunderous applause burst forth from the crowd.
Everyone genuinely admired Lu Xingchen.
He was simply too strong, his strength increasing even faster than Senior Brother Lin Xu’s.
Yi Hong continued, “Chief disciples, prepare yourselves. Three days from now, I will take you all to the Chuyuan Secret Realm.”
With the Holy Son Selection concluded, the disciples at the arena dispersed.
Lu Xingchen ignored those who came to congratulate him and hurried toward the mountain gate.
He had already noticed Xiao Yue’s movements.
If he were Xiao Yue, he would have run away too.
And now was the perfect opportunity for revenge.
Lu Xingchen activated his Wind Spirit Boots and searched for Xiao Yue’s trail outside the gate.
After half an hour, he finally found her by tracking footprints.
He immediately drew the Qingxia Bow, nocked an arrow, and shot it at Xiao Yue.
The arrow whistled through the air; sensing danger, Xiao Yue dodged sideways but was still struck in the arm, crying out in pain.
Holding the Qingxia Bow, Lu Xingchen stepped before her.
Xiao Yue made no attempt to flee, knowing he was faster.
Clutching her right arm, her face ashen, she said, “Lu Xingchen, though I broke off our engagement and humiliated you, there was no need to utterly destroy me.”
Lu Xingchen said coldly, “If that were all, I would have merely taught you a lesson. But you sent assassins after me twice—how do you propose to settle that?”
Hearing this, Xiao Yue’s heart sank.
Those incompetent fools had exposed her!
She immediately knelt before Lu Xingchen, her voice trembling with tears: “Lu Xingchen, I’m sorry. I was blinded and did you wrong. For my father’s sake and our engagement, will you spare me this once?”
“From now on, I, Xiao Yue, will serve you faithfully. Whatever you ask, I will obey!”
Lu Xingchen smiled faintly. “Good. I happen to need a maid. You may rise.”
A flicker of resentment flashed in Xiao Yue’s eyes.
She was a princess of the Da Yan Kingdom, yet she was to become a servant to another man—how outrageous!
Once she found a chance, she vowed to make Lu Xingchen pay.
Feigning a flattering smile, she stood and approached him.
At that moment, Lu Xingchen’s sword flashed, piercing her throat; blood sprayed forth.
Xiao Yue clutched her neck, staring at Lu Xingchen with unyielding hatred before collapsing.
[Congratulations, host: You have slain a five-star warrior and gained 15 experience points!]
They were now mortal enemies; he would not raise a tiger to harm him.
He was no fool.
Only by swiftly killing Xiao Yue could he do what was right.
After disposing of her body, Lu Xingchen returned to the Lingxiao Sect.
Outside his room, he saw Lin Wanqing.
His face immediately brightened with a genuine smile.
“Miss Wanqing, what brings you here?”
Lin Wanqing returned the radiant smile. “Of course to congratulate you on becoming the Holy Son of the Lingxiao Sect! I came earlier but never saw you.”
Lu Xingchen said calmly, “I took the opportunity just now to eliminate Xiao Yue.”
He had nothing to hide from his woman.
Lin Wanqing paused briefly before teasing, “She was your fiancée—don’t you feel any hesitation?”
Lu Xingchen waved his hand repeatedly. “Come on, I never cared for that fiancée. Just don’t spread this around; I don’t want to spoil relations between my father and the king.”
Lin Wanqing nodded gently. “Of course. Come, let’s celebrate your ascension and the settling of your great feud with some delicious food!”
Lu Xingchen laughed. “The Lingxiao Sect’s canteen can’t compare to my cooking. Let’s have barbecue.”
Lin Wanqing jumped up joyfully.
“Yay, yay!”
The two left the mountain gate. Lin Wanqing hunted down a first-level demon beast while Lu Xingchen built a fire and set up a grill.
Half an hour later, a rich aroma of roasting meat filled the air.
Lin Wanqing took a piece of Lu Xingchen’s barbecue and bit into it gently.
“Dazhuang, you’re incredible! Five months ago, you couldn’t even cultivate and were broken off with. Now you’ve become the Holy Son of the Lingxiao Sect.”
Lu Xingchen chuckled lightly. “Just luck.”
I can’t very well tell her I’m cheating, can I?
“I’m truly happy for you, but I’m also a little anxious. You’re growing so quickly that I’m struggling to keep up. I fear soon I’ll become a stumbling block on your path.”
Hearing this, Lu Xingchen was momentarily taken aback, then smiled awkwardly. “We’re family—I’ll take care of you forever.”
Lin Wanqing shook her head firmly. “I don’t want you to take care of me. I love you, and I won’t use your glory to boast. I want to walk beside you, sharing your burdens and easing your troubles.”
