Chapter 57: Bloody Battle at the Airport
"Wake up quickly! Everyone get ready!" Ling Fengyan's urgent call snapped Ye Yang out of his slumber.
"What's going on?" Seeing everyone on the plane bustling about in a panic, Ye Yang looked around in bewilderment. The pilot was shouting into the microphone in a language he couldn't understand at all. Hmm... it sounded like English.
Ye Yang's English proficiency was already quite poor, let alone this version spoken with various regional accents. He listened intently but understood nothing.
"Hurry up, get your weapons ready! Put on your armor! The airport we are about to land at is under attack by a horde of zombies," Ling Fengyan explained. Ye Yang was startled. You've got to be kidding me? Meeting a zombie horde attack the moment he arrived in Milan? His luck was truly pathetic.
Through Ling Fengyan's explanation, Ye Yang learned a few things. The current urban area of Milan was much smaller than Yanjing, so the airport was not located within the city itself, but rather at the corner of the outer city walls near the north.
Normally, this place was left unmanned, sealed off from the outside world by high walls and heavy steel gates. Personnel were only dispatched to temporarily organize things when special circumstances required the use of large aircraft, such as today.
However, an accident had occurred today. Due to the negligence of an airport employee, a slight flaw had appeared in the airport's lockdown. It was only a tiny loophole, but it was enough for the zombie horde to seize the opportunity and infiltrate. Currently, the internal staff of the airport were engaged in a bloody battle with the zombies, and reinforcements from Milan had not yet arrived.
"Since we've come from afar, and the hosts are in trouble, it's only right to lend a hand," Ling Fengyan and Su Yi said with a smile, looking at each other. The others immediately shouted their agreement. Hearing that they were merely ordinary zombies with very few high-level monsters, how could an elite lineup like theirs be afraid?
"There are zombies all over below, so we won't be able to wait for the plane to smoothly glide and land. The moment we touch down, I'll open the cabin door immediately. You all better protect the plane well!" the pilot said, covered in sweat. Ling Fengyan immediately nodded in agreement.
"Quiet, Anxin, Lin Xiaotian, Tang Xiaobao, you are responsible for guarding the plane outside and ensuring a safe landing. Sang Shi, clear the way! Everyone else, follow me into battle, and don't scatter too much," Ling Fengyan ordered in a deep voice, then asked, "Who takes the vanguard?"
"I'll do it!" The moment the cabin door opened, Gao Ting lunged straight out. Her speed was so fast that no one could beat her to it, but...
Another figure started a split second slower than Gao Ting, yet leaped out of the cabin almost simultaneously. It was none other than Lin Muyang.
The two women exchanged a glance and a smile. Their submachine guns spat tongues of flame almost at the same time, and short blades flashed in their hands. The two women even wielded identical weapons, the only difference being that Lin Muyang's weapon was a single short blade, slightly longer than Gao Ting's.
Two streams of fire and three flashes of sword light immediately left a trail of blood outside the plane. A few mutants were instantly drawn to them, but how could they possibly match these two berserk maidens?
Jingjing, Anxin, Lin Xiaotian, and Tang Xiaobao leaped out of the cabin in quick succession. Jingjing and Anxin both wielded retro longswords, while Lin Xiaotian used nothing at all. The moment he stepped out of the cabin threshold, Ye Yang heard countless sounds of rushing wind. Were those wind blades? Several wind blades swept out like a lawnmower. He didn't even use a gun, yet the power of those wind blades was by no means inferior to any firearm.
With a loud boom, a huge foot came down squarely in the middle of the zombie horde. That foot was thick and massive, instantly crushing several zombies into a bloody pulp. Ye Yang curled his lip; this guy Tang Xiaobao really had a few tricks up his sleeve, and his size-enhancement ability was genuinely powerful.
"Teacher! Should I use the Magic Cannon directly?" Sang Shi shouted loudly from the roof of the cabin.
"Use it!" Ling Fengyan nodded affirmatively. Although the plane had landed, hundreds of dense zombies were crammed right in front of them. Charging straight through like this would be extremely difficult and would easily cause the plane to overturn from the crush.
"Alright! But... you guys better protect me later," Sang Shi said dryly. Once he used up his Magic Cannon, he would be completely useless himself.
With a deafening roar, a ball of blazing white light brushed past the roof of the cabin. Hundreds of zombies didn't even have time to struggle or scream; the dense horde of zombies in front of them turned stark white in an instant, leaving not even a trace of ash behind.
The huge roar made the plane tremble three times over. The white light blasted hundreds of meters straight ahead, but just as it was about to strike the outer wall, Sang Shi let out a sharp roar, and the white light abruptly changed direction, soaring straight up into the sky.
So that attack could still be controlled even after being fired? Ye Yang was stunned; Sang Shi's strength was likely even greater than he had imagined!
"I'll go help him!" Ye Yang said hurriedly, his body leaping out and executing a flip onto the cabin roof. Sang Shi was sitting before him, panting heavily, and the two of them exchanged a smile.
He hadn't really noticed while inside the cabin, but once he came outside, Ye Yang received a huge shock. No wonder the pilot said it was impossible to land safely; this small airport was already piled high with zombies everywhere. Several thousand? There were probably over ten thousand of them! Although the strength of individual zombies was average, this scene at first glance was truly terrifying.
"Little Ye, watch out!" Sang Shi's loud shout drew Ye Yang's attention. He whipped his head around just in time to see a mutant leap onto the plane, rapidly scrambling up toward the cabin roof, its bloody maw aimed straight at Ye Yang. At the same time, several other mutants were charging over rapidly.
"Leave it to me!" Ye Yang didn't waste words. His submachine gun instantly swept across, the mutant twitching violently from the barrage as black blood splattered everywhere. The pilot inside the cabin was already scared out of his wits.
A short blade flashed like lightning and retracted just as quickly. Ye Yang's movements were extremely fast—the result of his desperate attempts to mimic Gao Ting's close-quarters combat these past few days. Just one strike! Fast, accurate, and ruthless, and that mutant was already separated from its head. Yet Ye Yang didn't stop for a second, his body leaping rapidly toward the other side, his submachine gun spitting fire as he horizontally swept away another mutant charging at Sang Shi.
"Awesome! Ha, keep it up, Little Ye, I'm counting on you," Sang Shi laughed heartily.
"Damn it, you kid," Ye Yang muttered, feeling rather depressed. While this Magic Cannon was fierce, getting to slack off after just a single use came with a pretty hefty aftermath.
Would Ye Yang let him slack off, though? Of course not. Even if Ye Yang agreed, the surrounding mutants wouldn't.
After emptying a magazine, Ye Yang tossed the submachine gun directly to Sang Shi and said, "I'll handle close combat, you provide cover!" With that, he raised a hand, drew his long spear, and charged out with eyes glowing like blood.
Three consecutive mutants lunged onto the cabin roof, followed by the figures of several more, and even a predator. Ye Yang couldn't help frowning; if this kept up, it would be really difficult for him to hold the line before the plane came to a complete stop.
With a flick of his wrist, the long spear thrust forward like a horned dragon, while the blade light enveloped the area like a giant net. Ye Yang unleashed his demonic energy almost without reservation, his muscles seeming to swell throughout his body.
With a heavy thud, the long spear pierced straight through one mutant's chest, and the blade shadow diagonally cleaved another. But the third one came extremely fast; Ye Yang had no time to retract his spear and blade. Yet his reaction was not slow at all. In the crisis, he actually discarded his short blade and grabbed the third mutant's throat with his bare hand.
It was his left hand. Ye Yang's left hand did not possess great strength. Although it could still channel demonic energy after training, the effect wasn't great yet. That hand only temporarily halted the mutant's lunging body, only for the creature to scratch wildly at it, tearing several bloody gashes into his arm.
"Bastard!" Ye Yang roared angrily, violently twisting his spear around to thrust the tip straight ahead. Unable to dodge with its throat caught in Ye Yang's grip, the mutant was impaled straight through the mouth by the spear, which burst out through the back of its head in an explosion of blood and brain matter.
There were simply too many zombies in the airport, and the bloody battle below was intensely fierce. Although the zombies couldn't climb onto the plane, the number of mutants was also terrifying. Gao Ting and Lin Muyang guarded the fuselage from left and right, yet several mutants still managed to scramble up.
Kill one, and two more take its place; kill two, and even more arrive. Ye Yang was no longer afraid of these LV2 creatures by now, but Sang Shi's situation was much more troublesome—his two submachine guns simply couldn't keep up with clearing out all these monsters.
"Watch out!" Ye Yang caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of a mutant lunging straight toward Sang Shi's back. Warning him was already too late; gritting his teeth, Ye Yang concentrated all his demonic energy into his feet and blasted off with a heavy stomp that caved in a large section of the cabin roof.
Shifting the long spear to his left hand, he accurately pierced that mutant. At the same time, his right hand lashed out, gripping the claws the mutant had aimed at Sang Shi. Amidst an angry roar, he completely tore those claws to shreds.
"Whoa! Fierce!" Sang Shi applauded enthusiastically.
"Fierce my ass! Here comes another one, be careful!" Ye Yang was almost driven to tears. This kid didn't even forget to show off in a life-or-death moment.
Just as Ye Yang said, another one came! And this time, it wasn't just a mutant—a predator had also leaped onto the cabin roof. Instead of attacking Ye Yang, it frantically tried to tear open the cabin roof, terrifying the pilot inside who was already crying in fright.
"Damn it!" Ye Yang hurriedly tried to block it, but was blocked off dead by several mutants. The cabin roof shattered instantly, and one of the predator's claws reached inside.
"Ah~~~" A melodious and piercing sound rang out. Was that... singing? Who had the mood to sing at a time like this? Yet the very instant that singing began, the predator froze abruptly, its body stiffening right where it was. Its bell-like eyes blinked a few times, looking as though it were overcome with heavy exhaustion.
"Good opportunity!" Ye Yang hurriedly raised his spear to charge forward, only to hear a second melodious singing voice ring out. This one was even louder and sharper.
An incredible thing happened. The predator caught in that song shuddered violently all over, blood spurting wildly from beneath its dark skin. Its body immediately went limp, the light in its eyes rapidly fading.
When that piercing song rang out a third time, the predator shuddered once more and literally burst apart with a loud bang, snapping clean in two from the waist. Intestines and internal organs spilled all over the cabin roof, leaving Ye Yang dumbfounded. The sight was far too horrifying and disgusting.
"Hehehe... Hero bro, did we sing nicely?" On the right side of the plane, Jingjing was holding onto Anxin as they slaughtered their way through the zombie horde, and Anxin playfully made a funny face at Ye Yang. So that singing was their special ability...
"Really... really nice," Ye Yang nodded dryly. The girl immediately looked overjoyed, though Ye Yang was sweating profusely. He reckoned that predator would never, ever agree that the singing was nice.
