Inside the room, on the mystical ice bed, Su Ran lay curled up, completely naked and writhing in pain. Her skin was aflame with golden fire. At this moment, she was clearly on the brink of unconsciousness. Though stunningly beautiful, the situation was dire.
“Hmm? A cultivation mishap?” Chen Fei glanced over and immediately understood. It must be that Su Ran, in her eagerness to cultivate, had triggered a sudden burst in her bloodline. The Phoenix Fire was scorching her from within, causing her to fall into a dangerous state of spiritual confusion and near collapse.
If she didn’t awaken soon, the golden flames might consume her soul entirely, leaving her a complete idiot forever.
Chen Fei didn’t hesitate. He approached the bed and quickly pressed acupuncture points—Baihui on the crown of her head, Yintang between her brows, and Renzhong under her nose.
A soft moan escaped her lips. Suddenly, Su Ran jolted awake, sitting upright in a shiver.
Chen Fei nearly lost control watching her tremble. “Miss Su, what’s wrong? Poisoned, or did your cultivation backfire?”
Su Ran clasped her chest, staring at Chen Fei’s eyeless sockets. He was truly blind, wasn’t he?
“Did you wake me?” she asked.
Chen Fei nodded. “I heard your cries outside, so I came in. I called your name but got no response. Feeling your forehead, it was burning hot—you were about to faint. So I pressed your emergency points.”
“Thank you,” Su Ran breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly feeling grateful. Luckily, she was married and living with Chen Fei. Otherwise, tonight could have been fatal.
It seemed she mustn’t rush the bloodline fusion too hastily and had to proceed gradually. But danger loomed ever closer, and suspicious eyes multiplied around her. If she moved too slowly, trouble might be inevitable.
Su Ran sighed deeply, collapsing back onto the mystical ice bed in agony.
Seeing her lost in thought, Chen Fei instinctively said, “Miss Su, you seem troubled. But in life, you just take it step by step. If you rush, you’ll only trip yourself up.”

Su Ran rolled her eyes in exasperation. “You’re blind, yet you’re lecturing me on life? Honestly, you’re the most miserable one here. You were once a genius of Yellow Mist City, and now look at you. Don’t you regret it?”
Chen Fei fell silent for a moment, then grinned wryly. “Of course I regret it. But I also know I’m not beaten yet. Alright, Miss Su, you rest. I’ll go now.”
Feeling uneasy, he dared not linger longer for fear his body might betray him.
Su Ran didn’t notice his discomfort and sighed softly. “Chen Fei, don’t go yet. I’m restless, my qi surging wildly—I’m afraid I might have another mishap. Stay and talk with me.”
Chen Fei sighed helplessly. “Lady, can you at least put some clothes on first? If this goes on, someone’s going to notice.”
If he suddenly acted up, given his status, they’d be certain he was faking blindness—and probably kill him.
Clearing his throat, Chen Fei lowered his head. “Alright, I’ll tell you a story.”
He moved to the table, deliberately turning his back to Su Ran. After a sip of water, he began, “Once upon a time, there was a scholar named Ning Caichen traveling to the capital for the imperial exams…”
He recounted the tale of a famous ghostly romance.
Having been on this continent for over a year, the story had nearly slipped his mind, so his narration stumbled at times.
Yet Su Ran, lying on the mystical ice bed, was utterly captivated.
She forgot her pain, the turbulent blood qi, the burning Phoenix soul.
Immersed in the story, lost in the tragic love between human and spirit, her heart ached deeply.
Outside, the rooster crowed.
Chen Fei stood and said, “The story’s done. Sorry for the long wait and the clumsy telling. Miss Su, how do you feel now?”
“Huh?” Snapping back to reality, Su Ran wiped a tear and said, “Chen Fei, that story was amazing! Although some parts were illogical and some words I didn’t understand, it stirred my soul. I… Oh! I think I broke through! Without realizing it, I’ve completed a crucial step in my cultivation!”
She leapt off the bed, feeling the changes coursing through her bloodline, overwhelmed with excitement.
At that moment, she understood that to awaken the bloodline, beyond effort and talent, one needed immense focus and mental calm.
Because she had been so absorbed in the story, forgetting her bloodline’s torment, she had unknowingly reached a state of complete immersion, allowing her bloodline to fuse thoroughly.
Su Ran, thrilled, grabbed Chen Fei’s arm. “Chen Fei, thank you for the story, and thank you even more for waking me in time. Don’t worry—I will find the elixirs to heal your injuries.”
Suddenly, she hugged Chen Fei unexpectedly.

This time, Chen Fei truly could no longer hold back and instantly reacted.
“Huh?” Su Ran was startled, then quickly stepped back, speechless. “What are you thinking, you fool!”
Chen Fei’s face flushed. “Sorry, sorry! I… I’ll go now. If you want another story, I’ll tell you tomorrow.”
Su Ran chuckled and hurriedly pushed him out. “Chen Fei, there’s some trouble at the mines, so I’ll be staying there these next few days. Be careful—don’t leave this room. If anything happens, just ask Miao Yue.”
Back in his room, Chen Fei’s heart pounded fiercely.
No wonder Su Ran was called the most beautiful woman of Yellow Mist City—her power was overwhelming, stronger even than Qin Shuang, that cruel woman. Her figure and face surpassed Qin Shuang’s by far.
He simply couldn’t resist.
Time passed. By day, Chen Fei appeared at Li Zhong’s residence under the name Chen Yang, handling affairs with the Qin family’s merchant convoy, forcing the Qin family closer to ruin.
At night, he returned to the Su family home to cultivate using spirit stones and elixirs.
The only disappointment was that Su Ran hadn’t returned these days, leaving his surroundings less vibrant.
The mid-grade spirit stones and ordinary elixirs from the Qin family’s convoy were no match for the Silver-winged Golden Eagle pills, high-grade spirit stones, and Spirit Transformation pills he coveted. Despite three days of grueling training, he hadn’t advanced to the sixth level of the Spirit Transformation realm.
Clearly, to rapidly improve, Chen Fei needed rare spirit stones, elixirs, or heavenly materials.
At the Qin family’s conference hall, the atmosphere was grim.
“Clan leader, if we don’t recall Qin Shuang soon to resolve the crisis, even without Chen Yang’s intervention, our Qin family is doomed.”
“We’ve already disbanded many of our guards on the spot.”
“We really can’t hold on any longer.”
The Qin family’s core leaders wore worried faces as they watched their assets being seized and their mansions taken over by others.
Worst of all were the complaints and troubles from their own kin—problems that money could usually solve but now seemed insurmountable.
The feeling of falling from a wealthy family to poverty was more painful than death itself.
In just a few days, the Qin family, one of the three great clans of Yellow Mist City, had plunged into chaos and despair, forcing many to abandon their ancestral roots.
