The ghoul devoured swiftly, though in this moment, every second counted; no speed would ever seem fast enough. What regretted Murong Xun most was that, because of Noya’s presence, he dared not unleash the twelve blood kin he had contained—otherwise, they would have been a formidable force as well.

The rankings in the sky changed constantly, and by now, the first place had already shifted hands. The name surprised Murong Xun. The top four were almost unchanged: the four brothers of the Holy Knights, holding identical merits and far ahead of the rest, creating two distinct tiers.

But at this moment, he had no time to pay attention to others.

Feeling the power strengthening him through the gloves, Murong Xun could only fight with all his might.

His merit points had reached thirty-three, placing him at one hundred and seventy-sixth! This alone showed how many players had entered the world of war, though scattered across different regions, never gathering together. If not for this ranking, he would never have realized so many people were present.

Suddenly, a frantic screech echoed from afar. The young blood kin commander battling Noya grew anxious, disregarding her as he let out a piercing cry, quickly flying off and leading the other blood kin away.

At that moment, several figures clad in silver armor rushed from the end of the street. One in black armor drew his bow and shot down many blood kin, but did little else.

Seeing their arrival, Noya, barely holding herself together, finally sank to the ground. She carried many potions—healing for wounds, restoring magic—but the exhaustion of spirit could not be remedied with potions, only with rest.

Gazing at the devastated street, Noya felt no joy at having driven away her foes.

She remained silent, simply watching the newcomers, awaiting their explanation.

“The Undead Legion is besieging the city. We need your strength at the walls. Leave the city to us Nightwalkers!” the black-armored man spoke coolly, ignoring the fallen civilian corpses.

“The Undead Legion?” Noya asked in confusion.

“Yes, the Undead Legion!” the white knight replied.

“Rebels from the south, possessing immortality—they are tainted by darkness. Only the power of light can purify them, or fire magicians can reduce them to ash.”

“What about inside the city?” Noya pressed, never taking her eyes off him.

“The Blood Lord has entered the city,” the white knight replied, lowering his gaze. “The Archer and Sword Knights, both Saints, are battling seven Blood Lords. With the city’s magic array, they can hold on, but not for much longer.”

“Seven Blood Lords?” Noya inhaled sharply.

She knew well how terrifying a Blood Lord could be.

“I’ll go with you,” she said resolutely, then introduced Murong Xun to the Nightwalker in black armor.

“This is an extraordinary I recruited. Without him, I wouldn’t have lasted. Let him help you clear the blood kin in the city.”

“Very well,” the Nightwalker nodded.

Noya nodded to Murong Xun, hefted her long-handled battle axe, and hurried off with the white knights toward the city gate.

“Follow me,” said the Nightwalker, glancing at Murong Xun with cold indifference before striding ahead without looking back.

Murong Xun showed no reaction, calmly following behind.

Suddenly, the Nightwalker quickened his pace.

Murong Xun heard screams and cries nearby and hurried after him without falling behind.

His spirit attribute had reached 3.4, with other bonuses as well—if quantified, it should be close to four points. Many veteran players in the novice zone had only about this much.

The Nightwalker moved with remarkable agility, leaping across rooftops and debris at astonishing speed. Murong Xun had to run at full tilt to keep up.

When he arrived at the scene, he saw the Nightwalker surrounded by hordes of blood thralls and blood kin—or rather, he was hunting them down.

With a high-level ally leading the charge and relative safety, Murong Xun seized the opportunity to rack up more merits. Alone, facing more than two blood kin, he would have fled as far as possible.

Even against mere blood thralls, sheer numbers could overwhelm him.

But now, with someone else bearing the brunt, he could easily attack from the flank.

Watching his merit points steadily rise was a source of joy.

Yet, seeing the rapid gains of the four Holy Knight brothers at the top, he sighed—comparison could be fatal to one’s pride.

The earlier explanation was that the city gate needed white knights to deal with the undead, that is, the power of light. And the four Holy Knight brothers, coincidentally, all possessed the Holy Light attribute.

Moreover, these four could recover each other’s states, as long as their balance was maintained—they were like perpetual motion machines, able to fight endlessly.

Thus, the world of war suited them perfectly.

Murong Xun found it odd that names like Wen Feng, Wang Junfeng, and Fang Yuan did not appear on the rankings; he wondered what they were doing. Perhaps they were exploring the treasure vault.

Sadly, his strength was too weak—he didn’t even qualify to participate.

Putting everything else aside, he focused on slaying the monsters.

Blood thralls generally had two or three points in their attributes, with low spirit; only slightly higher than his original stats. Now, with various potions enhancing him, he could kill them with a single strike, or finish them off with a follow-up.

But their ability to fly made them tougher to kill.

Meanwhile, the corpses stored in the Primordial God’s glove were being devoured by the ghoul power, then transferring feedback to him.

The process was very fast, and the consumption rate of corpses increased—more precisely, as the ghoul ability grew, the digestion sped up.

The Nightwalker, beset by blood kin, fought ferociously, leaving a mass of corpses in his wake.

He was stronger than Noya, fully armed, and his fighting style emphasized killing in one blow, making him far more efficient.

Murong Xun, faintly present, did not blindly pursue maximum damage; instead, he waited for the right moment, striking only when sure of a killing blow, so he never had to strike twice. More importantly, it conserved his strength.
