Chapter One Hundred: The Overlord

Wangmai, Snow Country, Yang City.
Four young men sat by the window on the second floor of a tavern, enjoying their meal.
“Chuanming,” Yue Zhe looked up and said, “Should we invite Meizi along?”
The nickname “Meizi” came from Liu Zhi’s fondness for bayberries.
Yan Chuanming thought for a moment and replied, “Better not. His kung fu is terrible; what if something happens?”
Feng Shuichen chimed in, “Let him stay with me. I’m not going into battle anyway, and he has his servant too.”
“In that case…” Yan Chuanming still seemed uneasy. “What if you two get surrounded? I’m worried you won’t be able to protect him.”
“I’m quick to support,” Leng Mujun succinctly responded from the side.
“Oh, that’s true,” Yan Chuanming nodded slowly. “Then let’s bring him along. We could use his brains.”
At that moment, a small hawk circled in the sky outside the window and flew straight inside.
“Where did that hawk come from?!” Yan Chuanming reached out to shoo it away but was stopped by Leng Mujun.
“It’s mine.”
Leng Mujun stretched out her hand, and the hawk obediently perched on her finger, emitting anxious, soft chirps.
She was startled, untied a message pouch from the hawk’s leg, and upon reading it, furrowed her delicate brows.
“What’s wrong?” Yue Zhe asked hurriedly.
Leng Mujun lowered her head, pondering briefly, then leapt out of the window and headed straight for the stables.
“Nothing. I’m just leaving for a while. I’ll be back to find you all in a few days.”
Yue Zhe leaned out and called after her, “Is it dangerous? I’ll go with you!”
Leng Mujun paused briefly but didn’t look back. “No danger. You better not come.”
Yue Zhe sulked and sat down again, ready to continue eating, only to find the two brothers across from him staring intently.
“What?”
Yan Chuanming and Feng Shuichen exchanged glances.
“Are you stupid?” “Aren’t you going to follow her?”
Yue Zhe looked at them. “She said it’s not dangerous, so I don’t need to go.”
Yan Chuanming suddenly slapped Yue Zhe on the back. “Does she look like she means no danger? Even if you two aren’t that close yet, I can tell she’s trying to protect you by saying that.”
Yue Zhe still looked confused. “Why?”
Feng Shuichen snapped, “Didn’t you notice her hesitation twice? That clearly means there’s danger. If it was a small matter, she’d either want you to come with her or tell you to find Yin Wen; she’d be back soon. She’s clearly flustered, and you want to sit here and eat?”
Yue Zhe slammed the table, startling everyone on the second floor. “Right! I have to follow her.”
He stood and was about to jump down but was pulled back by Yan Chuanming. “Wait. I’m going with you. Shuichen, Meizi is hiding near Yang City, right? Find him and follow us.”
“Huh? Find him first? I don’t even know where you’re going. How am I supposed to find you?”
Yan Chuanming said, “I’ll leave signs on the road. Just ask around carefully.”
“…I’m really speechless.”
“Chuanming,” Yue Zhe asked, “What about Yin Wen?”
Yan Chuanming’s eyes reddened with veins. “If the Star Clan wanted to harm her, she’d be in trouble by now. If they have other plans, she’s still safe. We need to take care of Miss Leng first. We can’t afford more losses.”
Yue Zhe nodded. “Alright.”
Yan Chuanming tossed a silver ingot onto the table and called the waiter. The three then leapt down and split up.
Following Yan Chuanming’s plan, the two trailed Leng Mujun northward but never fully caught up, only keeping at a distance behind her.

As they passed the first small town outside Yang City, Yan Chuanming inquired about the county magistrate’s residence, entered, greeted the official politely, and after sending women and children away, struck the magistrate’s gate with a spear, shattering it. He left some money for repairs and instructed the magistrate to spread the word southward, then mounted his horse and rode off.
Leng Mujun traveled swiftly, stopping briefly each day to rest her horse. Otherwise, she would have ridden nonstop day and night. This only confirmed to Yue Zhe and Yan Chuanming how urgent the matter was.
Two days later, they followed her into the Northern Mountains.
“The Northern Mountains?” Yan Chuanming was puzzled.
Yue Zhe exclaimed, “She told me her family is there! Something must have happened at home.”
The terrain in the Northern Mountains was complex, severely restricting horseback travel. Leng Mujun tied her horse to a tree by a stream to ensure it wouldn’t starve and immediately took off on foot with her lightness skill.
Seeing this, Yue Zhe and Yan Chuanming quickly did the same and pursued her.
After a short distance, Yan Chuanming suddenly said, “The smell of blood.”
“How far?” Yue Zhe asked hurriedly.
Yan Chuanming had been sensitive to the scent of blood since childhood, even able to distinguish which animal it came from. When he spoke like this, it was definitely human blood.
He sniffed carefully again. “Not far ahead. But why is there no sound of fighting?”
Yue Zhe mused, “Probably the kind of combat she prefers.”
Yan Chuanming said, “Then aren’t we at a disadvantage?”
Yue Zhe replied, “It should be fine. She told me she’s a rare genius in her family, one in a hundred years.”
“Oh, then it should be okay.”
As they spoke, the two crossed hills and arrived at a place neither had visited before.
“There’s a place like this in the Northern Mountains?” Yan Chuanming wondered.
Yue Zhe shook his head. “I haven’t been here either.”
Before them lay a picturesque cluster of buildings, small huts scattered among the forest that seemed to blend seamlessly with the mountains.
However, the presence of blood highlighted these buildings, as if the mountains were slowly pulling them apart.
Just as Yue Zhe predicted, shadows darted through the forest, occasionally revealing clear figures. The clang of metal and flying blood arrows punctuated the air, and someone fell.
Leng Mujun immediately drew two short knives, a black mist flickered around her, and she vanished without a trace.
Yue Zhe and Yan Chuanming, unsure who was friend or foe, hid behind a hillside to observe.
After a while, Yan Chuanming whispered, “Old Yue, those people’s shadow techniques aren’t as strong as Miss Leng’s.”
Yue Zhe nodded. “But her physical kung fu seems to struggle against those older fighters.”
Yan Chuanming added, “True, but her shadow-like teleportation skill compensates for that. It looks like a balanced fight.”
Yue Zhe agreed, “Right, let’s wait before intervening and see who’s who.”
Suddenly, a long howl echoed, and the shadows in the forest sharpened, soon splitting into two camps outside the buildings.
“Miss, you’ve returned,” a middle-aged man in black bowed beside Leng Mujun near the buildings.
“Hm,” Leng Mujun responded, “Where’s my father?”
The man replied, “The head of the family is out on business. The Black Hawk has been sent to notify.”
“How long have you been fighting?”
“Four days.”
“Leng Muge!” After asking about family matters, Leng Mujun’s phoenix-like eyes fixed on a young man in black across from her.
“What’s the matter?” The youth toyed with a short knife in his hand. “What does junior sister want to say?”
Leng Mujun sneered, “Is this how you do things? My father’s not here, so you come to snatch the blade?”
Leng Muge’s smile vanished. “Your family has held the title of 'Assassins' for fifty years! My father admitted fault for causing our families to be unable to exchange blades. He told me to tell future generations to train in peace and wait for the next duel…”
He paused, then said, “Fifty years. I’m almost seventy. Even if I get the Minghong blade, what good will it do? My father admitted his mistake, but he’s passed away! You should hand the blade over to me!”
Page 3/3
Leng Mujun snarled, “You know what your father did! How dare you demand my blade?”
Leng Muge flicked his black robe. “If I forcefully take it, you won’t keep the Minghong today!”
“Look at how he flicks that robe—so annoying…”
“Is that all you’ve got?” Leng Mujun glanced around. “Equal numbers, and you want to snatch the blade?”
Leng Muge flicked his black robe again, laughing, “Look to the north!”
Everyone looked up to see dozens of sword- and blade-wielding martial artists descending slowly from a hill to the north.
Among them, a murmuring voice repeated, “Look at how he flicks that robe—so annoying…”
“What…” Leng Mujun was stunned. “You actually called outsiders to interfere in the Assassins’ family affairs?”
Leng Muge laughed as he flicked his robe. “Why not? I just want the Minghong!”
“Damn, this is so annoying…”
“How can you do this and still face our ancestors?” Leng Mujun’s face flushed with anger.
“Hahaha…” Leng Muge laughed loudly, flicking his robe. “Ancestors? They’re rotten wood buried in the ground. Only you still care about such things!”
“Damn, I can’t stand this anymore…”
At that moment, Yue Zhe was distracted, and Yan Chuanming had already seized a black halberd and charged forward.
“Damn…” Yue Zhe, fearing Leng Mujun would think he wasn’t as eager as Yan Chuanming, hastily gathered his inner strength and swept down like the wind, arriving first beside Leng Mujun.
“Yue Zhe…” Leng Mujun was stunned. “Why are you here…”
Yan Chuanming arrived then. “You’re quick, huh?”
Before Yue Zhe could answer, Yan Chuanming looked at Leng Muge and said, “Hey! You know, you look really stupid flicking that robe.”
Unsurprisingly, the earlier annoyed muttering came from Yan Chuanming.
Leng Muge angrily snapped, “Who are you two?”
Leng Mujun was about to speak but was shielded behind Yue Zhe’s arm.
“You’re allowed to call for help, but she isn’t?”
Leng Muge sneered and turned to the martial artists halfway up the mountain. “Heroes, please handle these two intruders first.”
Unexpectedly, the group did not move. About half wanted to act but were restrained by the others.
“What are you doing?” Leng Muge was stunned. “I can offer more reward!”
At that moment, Yan Chuanming’s laughter came from the side.
“Kid, no matter how much you offer, they probably won’t move.”
“What did you say?” Leng Muge turned around, teeth clenched.
Yan Chuanming ignored him and looked toward the group on the mountainside. “Speak from now on. I don’t want to look up at you.”
With that, half who had wanted to act pulled back the others angrily and silenced them.
The two families present were stunned, not knowing who these friends of Miss Leng Mujun could be.
“Night King, Heart Sword…” Yan Chuanming named over a dozen martial arts nicknames as he observed the group. “This guy’s pretty rich, hiring you all?”
Some of the group exchanged glances before an elder with a sword on his back stepped forward and bowed to Yan Chuanming.
“I am Heart Sword… greetings, Overlord.”
