The One-Eyed Sky Wolf possessed a single glaring eye, its body towering several fathoms tall. Brilliant patterns adorned its entire form, and its four claws gleamed with a chilling radiance. These features crowned the One-Eyed Sky Wolf as the undisputed ruler of the endless sea of sand—a creature other spirit beasts dared not provoke lightly.
Upon seeing the One-Eyed Sky Wolf before him, Hao Gang’s expression shifted subtly. Yet, it was not fear of the beast itself that unsettled him, but rather the terrifying strength of Yang Xiao’s spiritual sense. Moments before, when Hao Gang extended his own spiritual sense, he had detected nothing unusual nearby—least of all the presence of the Sky Wolf. Yet Yang Xiao had discovered it early, proving his spiritual sense was far more powerful, incomparable to Hao Gang’s own.
This realization astonished Hao Gang. It meant that Yang Xiao was not only talented in the techniques of cultivation but his spiritual sense far exceeded that of ordinary people. In the sand sea, when Hao Gang released his spiritual sense, wind and sand limited him to sensing only a dozen or so meters. Anything beyond that was out of reach. Judging by the timing of Yang Xiao’s warning, Yang Xiao could sense at least over a hundred meters away—a feat almost unimaginable for someone at the Spirit Sense Realm.
Yang Xiao’s performance clearly won Lin Yunmei’s approval. Though she was surprised by his abilities, she cast him a look full of admiration.
Lin Yunmei’s appreciation of Yang Xiao further angered Hao Gang. He clenched his fists in frustration, his resentment toward Yang Xiao deepening. With such talent, Yang Xiao already surpassed Hao Gang. Driven by his own sense of pride, Hao Gang realized that if Yang Xiao continued to grow, no one could predict just how formidable he would become. If Hao Gang wished to cause trouble for Yang Xiao, he would have to act quickly—otherwise, his chances would diminish with time.
Despite these thoughts, as the pressure of the One-Eyed Sky Wolf loomed, Hao Gang was soon pulled back to reality.
“I’ll take care of this One-Eyed Sky Wolf myself. The rest of you can just watch,” Hao Gang declared arrogantly, eager to display his own prowess. Yang Xiao’s earlier warning had already demonstrated his strength; if Hao Gang did not prove himself now, all the glory would be stolen away.
“Hao, are you sure you want to handle the Sky Wolf alone? This creature won’t be easy to deal with. Why don’t we work together?” Lin Yunmei said to Hao Gang.
“No need to worry, Senior Lin. The Sky Wolf merely relies on its formidable body. Its true strength is only around the seventh or eighth level of the Spirit Sense Realm. If I can’t handle such a spirit beast, then my efforts have been in vain. Please, Senior Lin, watch from the side and see how I deal with it,” Hao Gang replied, his confidence bolstered by Lin Yunmei’s words, his expression showing absolute certainty.
“Then take care, Hao,” Lin Yunmei said, unable to persuade him otherwise.
“If you’re going to attack, hurry up. I’m happy to let you take the lead. If you can defeat the Sky Wolf alone, all the better. But as you said, it’s a low-level beast with little intelligence, so it shouldn’t be difficult to kill. Just don’t get careless and end up injured—that would be quite the joke,” Qing Yuhe interjected. He too had been surprised by Yang Xiao’s strong spiritual sense, but he estimated that Yang Xiao's abilities only slightly surpassed his own. After all, he had sensed the Sky Wolf’s presence not long after Yang Xiao did. Having lost to Yang Xiao once, Qing Yuhe still did not fully accept it, believing Yang Xiao’s victory was mere luck. Now, he was focused on breaking through to the Qi Condensation stage. Should he succeed, he would easily defeat Yang Xiao and regain his former honor among the disciples. If he could achieve this, Master Lingfeng might view him differently, and reclaiming the position of Young Sect Leader would not be impossible. For the Giant Spirit Sect, only disciples at the Qi Condensation stage truly mattered. Although Lin Yunmei had been named Young Sect Leader, if she failed to advance to that stage, it would all be meaningless—only a Qi Condensation cultivator could command true authority. Thus, when his cultivation finally broke through, everything would be up for debate.
Seeing Hao Gang step forward to challenge the One-Eyed Sky Wolf alone, Qing Yuhe had no objections. He believed the beast would be easy enough to defeat, but could not help but look down on Hao Gang, thinking his cultivation inferior and the battle would not be effortless.
Hao Gang understood Qing Yuhe’s attitude and said, “Thank you for your concern, Senior Qing. Just watch.”
He then glanced at Yang Xiao, whose demeanor remained calm and detached, offering no opinion. Hao Gang snorted coldly and moved forward to confront the One-Eyed Sky Wolf.
With a furious roar, the Sky Wolf charged toward Hao Gang, yearning for the taste of human cultivators. In the sand sea, humans were rare; these few before it were delicious morsels it could not easily let slip away.
Facing the beast, Hao Gang dared not underestimate it. He had already drawn his spirit weapon—a long halberd—and infused it with spiritual power, then boldly attacked the Sky Wolf.
The Sky Wolf, enraged, lunged with its four sharp claws, meeting Hao Gang’s halberd head-on.
A clang of metal echoed through the air. The Sky Wolf’s claws remained unscathed, and its powerful strike forced Hao Gang several steps back.
His face darkened. The Sky Wolf’s claws were exceptionally hard, no less than ordinary spirit weapons. Coupled with its innate strength, defeating it would not be easy.
But having boasted so boldly, Hao Gang could not retreat now—such a move would ruin his reputation before everyone.
Steadying himself, Hao Gang poured spiritual power once more into his halberd. Thunder rumbled along its shaft, and with a sweeping strike, he launched several thunderballs toward the Sky Wolf. Empowered by the spirit weapon, these thunderballs were formidable.
The thunderballs surged toward the Sky Wolf, which seemed aware of their danger. Yet as a spirit beast, it too wielded spiritual power, amplifying both its attack and defense.
The Sky Wolf emitted a layer of silvery spiritual energy, then lashed out with its forepaws to meet Hao Gang’s assault.
Violent sounds rang out again. Though the Sky Wolf’s posture grew a bit disordered, it managed to withstand Hao Gang’s attack.
Hao Gang knew his thunderballs lacked the power to threaten the Sky Wolf fatally. Seizing the moment as the beast grew distracted, he let out a loud shout, gripped his halberd, and charged forward, this time avoiding its claws and striking directly at the beast’s body.
