Chapter 50: A Unique Elegance
“Let’s go, then! I want to see just how impressive this person you mentioned really is!” Li Le quickly pulled aside some branches, pressed her feet against the tree, and climbed up. She hung her bow and arrows within the thick canopy, hidden from sight. Unless someone deliberately parted the leaves to search, they would never notice her stash.
Lie watched Li Le tidy everything up in a few swift moves and secretly marveled: “Sister’s agility keeps improving. If I don’t keep working hard, I’ll truly fall behind!”
“Come on, what are you staring at?” Li Le took a few steps, then turned and saw Lie gazing absentmindedly at the tree crown. She raised her brow in amusement.
“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Lie snapped back to reality and hurriedly replied. He ran a few steps and caught up, walking side by side with Li Le toward their wooden house.
...
From a distance, they could see Lie’s family’s cabin. Before even getting close, Li Le noticed a young man standing at the door—someone she’d never seen before. The youth looked about seventeen or eighteen, tall and slender, with an ordinary face, dressed in simple cloth, arms crossed and fingers hidden under wide sleeves. He wore a gentle smile, his eyes narrowing slightly, exuding a unique aura that made people instinctively lower their guard and feel at ease.
Right now, this young man watched them approach with a smile in his eyes.
Li Le’s heart tightened—she sensed that this boy was certainly not ordinary.
“Cong!” Lie finally spotted the youth from afar and waved his arms excitedly, calling out loudly, his voice brimming with joy. He shouted as he ran toward the cabin door.
“Lie!” The youth saw Lie run up and grinned genuinely, calling back.
Lie rushed over and hugged the youth, exclaiming with delight,
---
“Cong! It’s been so long! I just saw Ji and Ling. You hadn’t arrived yet. If Ji hadn’t said you’d definitely come today, I would have thought you’d be even later!”
The youth laughed and returned the hug, teasing, “Lie, it’s only been a few days. Are you sure you missed me, or did Ya and his gang bully you again, so you want us to help settle things?”
“How could that be? It really has been ages since I last saw you all!” Lie widened his bright eyes and protested.
Cong understood Lie’s character well and chuckled, “After all this time, you haven’t changed a bit!”
Lie wasn’t bothered; he wore his nature as a badge of honor, looking a little smug.
Just then, Cong turned and noticed Li Le, who had been quietly observing them. His expression was curious and a bit admiring, and he asked,
“Lie, whose girl is this? I’ve never seen her in the tribe before.”
Lie remembered Li Le standing nearby and replied, somewhat embarrassed, “This is Le, she joined our district not long ago...” Lie gave a brief introduction, then glanced at the sky and said,
“Cong, let’s head inside. Ji and Ling should be there already. I’ll tell you all together!”
The youth nodded, “Right, Ji and the others must have been waiting inside for a while now.”
They pushed open the door and stepped into the house.
Inside, two teenagers—one boy and one girl—heard the commotion, their ears pricking up as they lifted their heads, alert.
Li Le paused, secretly sighing: This world is truly full of people with distinctive airs—even the ones deemed children here have their own unique style!
Seated by the table was a girl about seventeen or eighteen, her skin slightly dark, eyes sharp, brows black and straight. She had a whip at her waist, wore clothes made of animal hide, sat with her legs propped up on the table, her long black hair flowing, and her sidelong glance was wary and fierce, reminiscent of a leopard.
So, this was Ji?
Li Le pondered, then her gaze shifted to the cool youth standing nearby, a heavy sword strapped to his back.
She estimated the boy was at least six feet tall, with a handsome face, slender straight build, dressed in light gray, and carrying a sword that seemed completely at odds with his refined appearance.
---
The sword was broad and thick; even with his stature, its hefty hilt protruded from behind him.
This must be Ling.
In that brief moment, as Li Le entered and observed the two teens, they too studied her.
She was not tall—even shorter than the youngest, Li. Her features were beautiful, her black hair falling over her shoulders, her smiling face gentle and soft, without any sharpness. She looked utterly harmless.
That was their first impression.
“Ji! Ling!”
Lie entered, blinking excitedly at them and calling their names.
Ling nodded, a flicker of amusement in his eyes, accepting the greeting.
By contrast, Ji was more expressive. She raised her brow, swung her legs down from the table, waved at Lie, then smiled kindly and said,
“You’re Le?”
Earlier, Ji’s legs seemed unusually long as she sat, but once she stood, Li Le realized Ji’s height almost matched Ling’s.
Her thoughts raced, but Li Le quickly composed herself, met Ji’s friendly gaze, and smiled in return.
