Chapter Fifty-Two: Record
In every district, a few outstanding individuals would always catch the attention of the tribe’s powerful figures and be regarded as the future leaders of the city. Ji, as one of the most remarkable youths in District 13, was clearly among those with such qualifications and potential.
Li Le followed the familiar path, trailing behind Ji and the others as they made their way toward the rest area. Along the way, all the inner city residents who caught sight of this group of gray-clad youngsters instinctively stepped aside, and some even wore knowing smiles on their faces.
Although these youngsters had not yet reached adulthood and their statures were not fully grown, their pace was indeed swift. Li Le had to hurry to keep up, almost falling behind despite her best efforts.
Before long, a vast enclosure surrounded by sturdy fencing came into view. The area, shaped like an arc, was cordoned off separately. The fence stood about two meters high, its base deeply embedded in the muddy ground, the wooden stakes interlocking in a jagged pattern, making the barrier appear especially solid.
At the entrance outside the enclosure stood a table pieced together from wooden planks. Upon it lay a stack of thickly piled animal skin parchment, held in place by a smooth, round stone.
In addition, several robust men, brimming with vitality, stood guard in small groups, each gripping a spear and keeping vigilant watch.
Li Le observed all this intently and mused to herself: For the tribe to assign so many people to guard this place despite their shortage of labor, it must truly be important...
Indeed, no matter the world, for intelligent beings, the nurturing and education of their young has always been of paramount importance.
“Let’s go in,” Ji said, narrowing her eyes slightly as she addressed the group.
Everyone nodded, preparing to step forward.
“Wait,” Lie suddenly exclaimed, slapping his forehead and turning to Li Le. “Is this your first time here, Sis?”
Li Le was momentarily taken aback.
At that moment, Cong, standing beside her, nodded in sudden understanding and explained with a smile, “This is Le’s first time here, so she may not know much about how things work. The rest area is one of Cloud City’s core zones. All the young ones entering or leaving must first register at the entrance. Only those of mid- or high-tier status are permitted inside…”
As for those who did not meet the requirements, they would, of course, be turned away.
Li Le nodded in comprehension and asked, “Is the registration done right here?”
Cong tucked his hands into his sleeves, his lips curled in a gentle smile as he replied, “Yes, just over there at the table by the rest area. You only need to fill in some basic information, such as your guardian’s name. There will be clan members nearby in charge of recording everything.”
