Chapter 142: The Interview
Ming Han saw Da Xu again at the hospital.
His foot was wrapped in gauze, making him look rather heroic and tragic!
"Da Xu, did your dad finally resort to physical violence against you?"
Da Xu turned his face away, wearing an expression of profound sorrow.
"Too despicable! Even a vicious tiger won't eat its own cubs," Yu Hang said, burning with righteous indignation. "How could he bring himself to do that to such a lovely and ambitious Da Xu?"
Da Xu coughed twice and said awkwardly, "Actually, my dad agreed. I was just too excited at the time and wanted to sneak out in the middle of the night to go to an internet café, but I twisted my ankle while climbing over the wall."
So it turned out that Da Xu had brought this entirely upon himself?
Da Xu's high school entrance examination scores weren't actually bad, but he had stubbornly made up his mind not to attend regular high school. With no other choice, his father decided to send him straight to a vocational school.
When it came time to fill out his application choices, Da Xu's father had been deeply troubled. What major should he choose?
Should it be excavator operation? Cooking? Or cosmetology and hairdressing?
After much careful deliberation, he finally selected a premier, golden major for Da Xu: Automotive Repair.
Imagining Da Xu wearing a hard hat, dashingly crawling underneath a truck to fix engines, his father couldn't help but chuckle aloud. Was his son finally going to make something of himself?
Da Xu felt helpless; he was only planning to coast through vocational school while dedicating the vast majority of his energy to gaming.
Consequently, his old man assumed he harbored a grand dream of becoming a master automotive technician. How terribly awkward.
"Dad, I'll work hard!" Da Xu meant that he would carve out a path to glory in the gaming world.
Da Xu's father nodded with great satisfaction. "That's my boy. Our family's long-abandoned motorcycle will depend on you in the future."
In the end, Da Xu enrolled in the Municipal Vocational and Technical College.
The admissions officer looked at Da Xu's high school entrance exam score report, then glanced at Da Xu suspiciously. "With a score this high, you want to attend a vocational school? Young man, are you sure?"
Da Xu nodded excitedly. "Teacher, this is my dream."
The teacher almost fell right out of his chair. This was the damn first time he had ever heard of anyone coming to a vocational school to pursue a dream! This young man certainly had deep thoughts.
Da Xu looked around his class. Without exception, his classmates had scored around two hundred points on their entrance exams, while his score alone easily met the admission threshold for the county's Number Two High School.
"It seems I need to discuss this with the principal and hold a grand farewell ceremony for this top student! After all, this is the highest score our vocational school has received in three years," the teacher muttered to himself.
Da Xu's eyes welled up with tears. Finally, a place that knew how to truly appreciate talent!
At the mere thought of countless young maidens cheering for him in the future, his heart became impossible to calm.
"Classmate, which major are you in?"
Da Xu replied, "Automotive Repair."
The teacher nodded approvingly. "Automotive repair is our school's ace major; you've definitely come to the right place. Our automotive repair program is just as famous as Lanxiang."
Da Xu wanted to tell him that he was only here to play video games, but he simply couldn't bear to shatter the teacher's earnest expectations.
"It looks like that old clunker my father left behind is finally saved," the teacher sighed upward toward the heavens.
...
Da Xu had already registered and was preparing for the start of the semester. Ming Han was also preparing to leave for the Municipal Number One High School.
The distance from the county town to the urban district was more than a hundred kilometers, serviced by dedicated buses.
Going away to high school meant that Ming Han was about to become a boarder.
Su Yan was extremely reluctant to see him go, murmuring, "Just a moment ago you were still so tiny, and now you're leaving your mother behind."
Ming Han said helplessly, "Mom, I'm just going off to study. Do you have to treat it like a life-or-death parting?"
Su Yan looked disheartened. "When a son travels a thousand miles, his mother worries. Once you're no longer living at home, how lonely is your mother going to be?"
Every mother is a contradiction! They hope their children will fly higher than anyone else, yet they also yearn to see their children constantly.
"Don't worry! I'll come back whenever I have free time."
Some say that high school is the most unforgettable learning experience of a person's entire life.
During middle school, one's mind is still too naive; university is like a miniature society where people rarely reveal their true selves completely. Only in high school do you invest your truest heart and hardest effort into navigating your studies.
All the hard work in high school is meant for that single exam three years down the line that has the power to change one's entire life—the National College Entrance Examination.
Ming Han had his own goal: he hoped to attend Provincial University. That was the best university in the entire province!
So, starting from this very moment, strive forward!
Sister Fang brought Ming Han a piece of news: "From now on, all activities for the Polaris Duo will be directly arranged by Tianqi."
This was undeniably fantastic news. The resources Qianyang Club could secure were simply too scarce. Tianqi, however, was a nationally renowned entertainment conglomerate whose operations spanned talent management, film, variety shows, sports, and music. It was a publicly traded company with a market value exceeding ten billion.
If Tianqi genuinely wanted to cultivate the Polaris Duo, the resources it could deploy would instantly transform their path to stardom.
"Ming Han, keep up the hard work! We're getting closer and closer to success."
Sister Fang would continue to manage them; Tianqi favored a cradle-to-grave talent nurturing model. That way, if they became famous later on, existing emotional ties would make renewing contracts and cooperation much easier.
Before officially joining Tianqi, the company arranged an interview for the two of them.
The interviewer was also a staff member under the Tianqi umbrella, and their interview video would be broadcast live online.
She was a pretty young lady of twenty-three named Ji Fu.
It was a room filled to the brim with cameras and photography equipment, and both Ming Han and Yu Hang felt a bit restricted at first.
"Today, our interview subjects are the Polaris Duo, who have been generating a massive amount of online discussion lately. They are a new generation of basketball stars, owning a huge fan base thanks to their flashy playing style and handsome looks. Let's invite them to introduce themselves to everyone."
The camera shifted to Ming Han, who smiled and said, "Hello everyone, I am Ming Han."
"I am Yu Hang."
Perhaps sensing that the two youngsters were slightly nervous, Ji Fu took the lead in lightening the atmosphere. "You two must speak your minds freely today; our netizens have plenty of questions lined up for you."
Looking at the simultaneous online viewer count, it had already reached thirty thousand. It seemed these two newcomers genuinely possessed quite a bit of popularity.
Ji Fu started with a few warm-up questions. For instance: How old are you? Where do you study? What are your hobbies?
Ming Han and Yu Hang both gave standard, textbook answers.
Ji Fu wasn't satisfied. "Now, some online netizens have a few questions they'd like to ask the two of you. First question: Ming Han, what kind of girls do you like?"
Ah! The classic question constantly asked in television dramas was thrown straight at Ming Han as the very first query.
Generally speaking, the answer to such a question had to be about inner beauty, being filial, being considerate, and so on...
If you answered that you liked pretty and sexy ones, you would undoubtedly be flamed beyond recognition for being too superficial and lacking in ambition.
Therefore, the answers to such questions were nothing more than hypocritical nonsense.
Ming Han smiled faintly. "I'm still young; I don't think about such things."
This was even more official than an official statement. Many netizens were deeply disappointed, finding not a single shred of interesting gossip.
It was Yu Hang's turn.
Yu Hang replied, "Someone a bit more academic, a bit more assertive, generous, and preferably with a rather fiery temper."
Whoa, a wave of "666" flooded the live chat...
Ming Han looked at Yu Hang with a profound, knowing gaze. You might as well have just said her name out loud, damn it! Could you possibly have made it any more obvious?
