Chapter 66: Who Else Dares?
As the six major sects agreed to a series of one-on-one duels with Yin Tianzheng, Zhang Songxi, one of the Seven Heroes of Wudang, strode forward with an air of righteousness to begin the first match.
“Chief Yin, please!”
Soon, the two clashed fiercely in the great hall. After a hard-fought battle, Yin Tianzheng, a seasoned veteran of the martial world, proved slightly superior and emerged victorious in this first duel.
After facing off against several of Wudang’s leading figures, Yin Tianzheng was already badly wounded. By the time it was the turn of the Kongtong Sect, he was no longer able to fight.
“Heroes of all paths, the demonic sect’s days are numbered! Exterminate every last remnant of the demon cult here!” came the command.
“Once these remnants are destroyed, the Wudang Sect will search the east, the Emei Sect the west. No one from the demon cult must escape our net,” the old abbot of Shaolin declared, issuing orders to the assembled members of the six great sects.
Upon hearing the abbot’s assignments, none of the sects voiced any objection. Confronted by such a powerful purge, the followers of the Bright Sect present all showed a readiness to face death, chanting their sacred creed with fervor.
“Burn my broken body, let the holy fire blaze. What joy is there in life, what suffering in death?”
“To vanquish evil and uphold the light, all joys and sorrows return to dust. We, the people of the world, know much affliction.”
It must be said, the teachings of the Bright Sect far surpassed those of the six sects. Had the Bright Sect not been so divided in recent years, the six great sects united might not have been able to defeat them at all.
After all, the Bright Sect did not even have a leader now.
Just then, a striking figure suddenly appeared above the hall.
“Susu!” Yin Tianzheng exclaimed, visibly agitated at the sight of the newcomer.
“It’s that sorceress! Didn’t she vanish after the Wudang incident years ago? Who would have thought she’d appear again now?”
The upright members of the orthodox sects were all too familiar with Yin Susu. Back then, the five great sects had gathered at Wudang and forced Zhang Cuishan to take his own life on the spot. Afterward, Yin Susu disappeared as if she had evaporated from the mortal world. Over the years, rumors spread in the martial world that she had committed suicide.
Zhang Wuji himself had come to believe these rumors. Otherwise, after so many years, why would Yin Susu have never sought out her own son? Little did he know, to Yin Susu now, Zhang Wuji was no longer of any importance. The only person in her heart was her master, Wang Kun.
“How awe-inspiring you all are! I hear you six sects are holding duels? Well, now that I’m here, whoever wishes to die may come forth as they please!” Yin Susu ignored Yin Tianzheng and coolly surveyed the gathered experts from the six sects.
At her words, everyone from the six major sects, save for Wudang, glared at her with undisguised fury.
“What a demonic witch! Today, I shall rid the world of you and uphold justice!” an elder of the Kongtong Sect shouted.
With a leap, the old man charged forward, intending to teach this arrogant demoness a lesson.
But before he could even get close, Yin Susu’s sword flashed, and his head was severed in a single stroke.
Thud!
The great head fell heavily before the assembled crowd.
“Who else?” Yin Susu continued to look down upon the gathering of heroes, her voice calm as she swept her gaze over the members of the six sects.
Faced with such an overwhelming display of force, the experts of the six major sects could not help but draw a sharp breath. That Kongtong elder was no ordinary figure—he was one of the sect’s foremost experts. Yet he had been slain with a single stroke, before he could even mount a defense. The sheer speed of her attack left everyone stunned.
For a moment, no one among the six sects dared step forward and take the lead.
“Amitabha. My friends, this witch of the demon cult is excessively ruthless. To deal with such an enemy, we must put forth our full strength.”
“The abbot is right. Against one so cruel, there is no need to speak of chivalry or honor.”
