Volume One, Chapter Eleven: The Mother-in-Law Urges Her to Apologize to the Nanny
Aunt Qi’s professional skills were lacking, but she was more eager than anyone else to complain.
Aunt Qi stared at her smugly, adopting an attitude that said, “Let’s see what you can do to me.” After all, both Manhua Zhou and Yixiao Duan had said over the phone that they would back her up.
Sure enough, Manhua Zhou and Yixiao Duan called one after another. Jiang Yunmiao could imagine exactly what they were going to say with her eyes closed, so she simply declined their calls indiscriminately.
She sat calmly on the sofa, expression unchanged, and reminded Aunt Qi, “You have twenty minutes left to pack your things.”
“You—” Aunt Qi clutched her chest, her face twisted in anger.
She dragged a chair into the living room and sat down, determined not to believe that Jiang Yunmiao, no matter how fierce, could really stand against Manhua Zhou and Yixiao Duan.
By now, Yidan Zhong had already figured out that this old shrew was merely bluffing, trying to intimidate Jiang Yunmiao by riding on others’ power.
She raised an eyebrow and asked innocently, “Auntie, you must be over seventy, right? Why don’t you retire and enjoy life? Don’t you want to?”
Aunt Qi nearly had a heart attack and glared at Yidan fiercely. “What auntie! I’m just in my early fifties!”
Yidan gasped in surprise, covering her mouth, her face full of disbelief. “Sorry, sorry! You look like an elder from my mom’s generation, so I thought you were a grandmother.”
Aunt Qi suspected she was doing it on purpose, but seeing Yidan’s innocent and sincere expression, she couldn’t find any proof.
Finally, furious and humiliated, she sneered, “Coming from a humble family, no wonder you’re so ill-mannered.”
Yidan didn’t like hearing that. The mockery lurking in her eyes surfaced. Her voice was clear and crisp. “May I ask, Auntie—oh no, this dear lady, which prestigious family do you come from? Taking on menial chores outside, is it to understand the hardships of life?”
Yidan was an award-winning debater; a loud-mouthed country bumpkin like Aunt Qi was no match for her.
In just a few words, the older woman’s face turned pale and flushed in anger.
Her only skill was shouting and cursing.
“You! You little bitch, get out of here!”
Jiang Yunmiao had never bothered with her on trivial matters before; Aunt Qi often called the shots. But now, Yidan was an eyesore everywhere, and naturally, she wanted her gone.
Jiang Yunmiao’s cold gaze landed on Aunt Qi’s sinister and mean face. “Aunt Qi, the one who should leave is you!”
Aunt Qi ignored her and stubbornly said, “I was hired by Manhua. Only Manhua can make me leave.”
“Is that so?” Jiang Yunmiao sneered and immediately called the community security, “Someone is refusing to leave our home. Please come and handle it.”
Aunt Qi was stunned by Jiang Yunmiao’s move.
It wasn’t until the security guards arrived that Aunt Qi realized Jiang Yunmiao was serious.
“My nanny was fired by me. Don’t ever let her in again. Please help escort her out!”
Aunt Qi immediately dropped her act and stormed into the kitchen, grabbing a kitchen knife. Brandishing it fiercely, she shouted, “Let’s see who dares touch me today!” She swung the knife through the air twice.
The guards didn’t expect such a scene. Although they hated Aunt Qi’s old shrew antics, they didn’t want any bloodshed.
Jiang Yunmiao looked at Aunt Qi coldly. “Aunt Qi, think carefully. If blood is shed today, you’ll be sewing in prison tomorrow.”
“You’re threatening me?” Aunt Qi glared viciously, as if willing to pierce a hole in her. “It’s all your fault, you troublemaker! You pushed me to this!”
Jiang Yunmiao remained calm. “If you really go inside, your grandson won’t become a high official.”
Aunt Qi’s pride was her precious grandson, whom she dreamed would rise to prominence with wealth and power.
“Y-you!” Aunt Qi’s expression changed, her face falling. She only wanted to scare Jiang Yunmiao, not risk her own future or that of her grandson.
She hurriedly put the knife down on the table and switched to a pitiful act of crying and tantrums.
Sitting on the floor, she wailed, “Ah, my life is so bitter. I worked here diligently for three years, and they have no mercy—firing me and throwing me out just like that…”
The guards were familiar with her. She often carried a loudspeaker to the leisure square to dance, causing many resident complaints. They had tried to reason with her several times, but she would shout back angrily.
Aunt Qi also liked boasting about how easy her work was and how much money she made, so no one was moved by her crying now.
Jiang Yunmiao was headache-stricken by the noise and took some bills from her bag, handing them to the guards. “Please help escort her out quickly.”
The guards hesitated but eventually accepted the money.
Though Aunt Qi had grown plump over the years, several strong men easily lifted her up.
She continued to sob loudly, blaming Jiang Yunmiao for her cruelty, squeezing her own thigh to squeeze out crocodile tears and gain sympathy. But just as she was mustering the crying act, they carried her out without giving her a chance to struggle.
“You, Jiang! You little bitch! You’ll regret this! Your heart is so cold—you’ll get your comeuppance… you won’t die well…”
If anyone overheard, they’d think there was some deep grudge between her and Jiang Yunmiao, given the vitriol of her curses.
Yidan was furious and wanted to chase after her but was stopped by Jiang Yunmiao. “Forget it. When bitten by a dog, do you bite back?”
For Jiang Yunmiao, getting rid of this troublemaker was immensely satisfying.
She told another guard to pack Aunt Qi’s belongings and return them to her.
When Sister Xu arrived and laid out a table of dishes full of color, aroma, and flavor, Jiang Yunmiao finally felt awakened.
What kind of hardship had she endured before?
If she was at fault, the law would punish her. Why did Aunt Qi have to torment her?
Compared to Aunt Qi’s cooking, Sister Xu’s was heavenly—absolutely exquisite!
Yidan Zhong and Ye Li also praised the dishes enthusiastically.
Just as they were enjoying the meal, Manhua Zhou appeared, storming in with a fierce air.
She wore an extravagant designer outfit, carrying the limited-edition Kelly bag Jiang Yunmiao had given her for her birthday. Sitting arrogantly on the sofa, she immediately demanded, “Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
Jiang Yunmiao hadn’t finished eating yet and was picking fish bones casually. Indifferently, she replied, “Really? Didn’t hear it. Mom, what do you want?”
Her nonchalance displeased Manhua Zhou. “What kind of attitude is that? Everything was fine until you stirred up trouble. I’m telling you, apologize to Aunt Qi immediately and ask for her forgiveness!”
