The confinement period was quite boring, especially for someone like Jiang Yunmiao, whose child was not by her side and whose husband was practically useless.
But there was always someone willing to keep her company, and she was more than happy to accept.
That night, she was already preparing to sleep when Lu Shenshen suddenly came over, looking mysterious. She asked, “Did your husband, Duan Yixiao, go on a business trip to Beicheng?”
Jiang Yunmiao wasn’t sure about that. Duan Yixiao had left in a foul mood without saying a word.
“What’s up?”
“Don’t get mad when I tell you this.” Lu Shenshen gave her a warning in advance.
“Did Chen Nianke post something cryptic on social media again?” Jiang Yunmiao was fully alert now and even got up to put on a facial mask.
Lu Shenshen’s eyes widened. “How did you know?”
“Just a guess. Business trips are the perfect time to sneak around.” Jiang Yunmiao glanced up and saw Lu Shenshen looking at her with admiration. “What’s with that look?”
“Wow, you’re so calm about this.” Lu Shenshen hadn’t expected her to handle it so well—she was a true role model!
Jiang Yunmiao scoffed, “What else? Feel sorry for myself and sob in secret?”
“That’s got backbone! You’re definitely my sister!” Lu Shenshen handed over her phone. “Here, enjoy Chen Jiao Jiao’s social media post.”
Chen Nianke had posted about an art exhibition she visited, writing: “The person I most want to see and the exhibit I most want to see are both here, so I came!”
The pictures showed some exhibited works, but Duan Yixiao wasn’t in any of them. Still, Jiang Yunmiao immediately recognized him in the reflection on the glass frame of one piece.
Truly a super loyal admirer—a perfect specimen!
Jiang Yunmiao pondered for a moment. If Duan Yixiao was on a business trip to Beicheng, it was probably to negotiate a project for the Duan Group. The partner was difficult to deal with and required a drinking session to loosen up. Although Duan Yixiao wasn’t a heavy drinker, she always prepared hangover medicine for him before his trips.
So tonight he would undoubtedly get drunk.
That meant Chen Nianke would have her chance.
“What are you thinking about?” Lu Shenshen waved her hand in front of Jiang Yunmiao’s eyes.
“I’m thinking about how to surprise them.” Jiang Yunmiao patted her facial mask to make it fit better.
“What kind of surprise?” Lu Shenshen immediately caught on to her scheming and asked slyly.
“I know Duan Yixiao usually stays at the Zhouli Hotel in Beicheng when he’s on business. Can you help me get a Beicheng phone number?”
“You’re not thinking of calling the police…” Lu Shenshen guessed her intent right away, her expression shifting to excitement and anticipation. “You’re going to stir things up, huh?”

Jiang Yunmiao checked the time, peeled off the mask, and said flatly, “I’m just trying to sober Duan Yixiao up.”
“Leave it to me. I guarantee Duan Yixiao and Chen Nianke will have a night they’ll never forget!” Lu Shenshen patted her shoulder proudly and strode out.

An hour later, at the Zhouli Hotel in Beicheng,
Chen Nianke and her assistant helped Duan Yixiao back to his hotel room.
“You should rest. I’ll take care of him,” Chen Nianke told her assistant.
“But…” The assistant hesitated. Duan was married, and if his negligence caused trouble in his marriage, he...
“Hey, Yixiao, are you feeling unwell? Can I stay and take care of you?” Chen Nianke asked gently and attentively.
Seeing Duan Yixiao nod, the assistant had nothing to say and left.
Chen Nianke carefully wiped his face and body. But Duan Yixiao nearly vomited on her, making it unbearable; she had to take a shower first.
Just as she finished and stepped out, the doorbell rang. She thought it was the assistant bringing something but opened to find three uniformed police officers.
“We received a report of illegal activity here. Please cooperate with the investigation!”
“Sir on the bed, please put on your clothes and stand up!”
Duan Yixiao didn’t respond for a long time. The police asked Chen Nianke, “What did you give him?”
She was terrified by the situation and paled. “I… I didn’t. He… he’s drunk.”
Eventually, Duan Yixiao woke up a bit and was shocked by the scene.
The two of them scrambled to explain for a long time before clearing up the misunderstanding.
Hotel guests came and went, and someone recorded the incident and uploaded it online. Lu Shenshen watched eagerly, thoroughly entertained.
Jiang Yunmiao quietly saved the video of Duan Yixiao and Chen Nianke’s embarrassing moment.
She knew the video would soon disappear from the internet.

Two days later, Jiang Yunmiao had a postpartum dynamic assessment at the maternity center. The doctor said she was recovering well in all aspects, which pleased her greatly.
But the next moment, tragedy struck.

As she stepped out, she saw Duan Yixiao and Chen Nianke.
Duan Yixiao wore a beige suit, and Chen Nianke wore a bright yellow Chanel-style cashmere jacket paired with beige high-waisted wide-leg pants. From a distance, their outfits matched so closely it looked like a couple’s set.
A nerve instantly snapped in Jiang Yunmiao’s mind; her scalp tingled. When had Duan Yixiao returned?
Why were they here all of a sudden?
As she wondered, she noticed their eyes drifting toward her—
Oh no, she wasn’t wearing her silicone maternity belly band. If they saw, her secret would be exposed.
“Jiang Yunmiao?” Chen Nianke whispered, recalling the woman she’d just seen. The figure was slender and didn’t show a big belly, but wasn’t Jiang Yunmiao supposed to be about to give birth? Her female intuition told her Jiang Yunmiao was hiding some unspeakable secret.
This thrilled her and she eagerly wanted to expose Jiang Yunmiao.
“What did you say? Yunmiao?” Duan Yixiao also found the figure familiar but only caught a glimpse.
Chen Nianke seemed to have seen too—could that woman really be Jiang Yunmiao?
“Yes. She just came out of that room.” Chen Nianke pointed confidently.
Duan Yixiao fell silent. Yes, it was exactly that room.
“Why would Jiang Yunmiao avoid us?” Chen Nianke whispered mysteriously, sneaking a glance at Duan Yixiao’s reaction.
Her words stirred suspicion in Duan Yixiao. His dark eyes deepened as he recalled Jiang Yunmiao’s strange behavior these days. She wasn’t resting at home to nurture their child—why was she here? Was she hiding something from him?
He instinctively stepped forward.
“Yunmiao, is that you? Are you inside?”
No response.
“She should be in there. I saw Jiang Yunmiao go into that room,” Chen Nianke said, somewhat excited. She was sure Jiang Yunmiao had seen them but slipped inside to hide something.
Duan Yixiao grew even more puzzled and knocked on the door. “Yunmiao, Jiang Yunmiao? Are you okay? If you don’t open, I’ll come in.”
Jiang Yunmiao frowned deeply at the noisy voices outside. She hadn’t gone looking for trouble, but they just wouldn’t leave.
She wasn’t afraid of Duan Yixiao discovering that she had already given birth to their daughter ahead of time, but now was not the right moment.
With a click, the door was pushed open from the outside—
