Chapter 12: Moving Out of the Yun Family Home
The sleek black Cullinan rolled directly into the modest front courtyard of the Yun family residence.
Uncle Liu, a burly man dressed in formal attire, stood straight and respectfully opened the car door for Yun Chuxia.
No sooner had she stepped inside the house than a teacup flew at her from across the room.
She tilted her head to dodge it; the cup shattered against the wall beside her, hot tea splattering onto her face, leaving faint crimson stains on her pale skin.
Yun Hongbin’s eyes blazed with fury:
“You useless thing—can’t even hold onto a man and still have the nerve to come back!”
“You disappeared without a trace, causing the engagement to be called off on the spot. How can the Yun family save face now?”
Zhao Jingrou feigned concern, grabbing Yun Hongbin’s arm, but her usually gentle tone turned icy cold:
“Chuxia, how could you? You never had any relationship with Master Si, so how could you deceive us for three whole years?”
“For these three years, we pampered you with the best food and drink, only to find it was all a sham. You’ve truly broken your parents’ hearts.”
Yun Qingqing, unusually silent, merely held her phone and chuckled foolishly.
Yun Hongbin grew more enraged, blaming the poor state of Yun Corporation on Yun Chuxia’s failures.
“You’re a worthless money pit!”
“Just wait—today I’ll beat you senseless!”
He grabbed a rattan cane that had been prepared beforehand and stormed toward her.
Zhao Jingrou pretended to restrain him, but her grip was feeble; she barely touched his sleeve.
---
Finally putting down her phone, Yun Qingqing crossed her legs with an air of amusement, clearly enjoying the spectacle.
“How many times has she been used in these past years? And she still dares to talk about acting?”
“Dad, just beat her to death! She’s brought shame upon the Yun family!”
Provoked to the brink, Yun Hongbin raised his hand and swung the cane in a wide arc through the air.
“Stop!”
A sturdy arm intercepted his strike as a man who had been quietly following Yun Chuxia stepped forward.
Uncle Liu grabbed Yun Hongbin’s slender arm and gave it a sharp twist, sending him stumbling back.
Without looking at the others, he respectfully addressed Yun Chuxia:
“Miss Yun, Master Si is still waiting for you.”
Yun Chuxia nodded slightly and swaggered upstairs.
“Wait,” Yun Hongbin called after her gruffly, rubbing his wrist and lowering his voice to ask,
“Which Master Si?”
Why was there suddenly another Master Si? Could it be that Si Haochen was still thinking of her?
If that were the case, leveraging a bit of his lingering guilt might not be a bad idea.
Yun Chuxia glanced at Zhao Jingrou, who was staring fixedly through the open door at the car parked in the courtyard. It was clear she recognized it.
“You could always ask Mrs. Yun. After all, she’s well-informed about all the movements among the elite families in Yan City. She should know which Master Si it is.”
---
Zhao Jingrou’s face turned pale as she shot a glance at Yun Chuxia but said nothing.
This adopted daughter was truly cunning—she had swiftly attached herself to Si Yuchuan.
Yun Chuxia packed the few clothes she had, grabbed her suitcase, and faced Zhao Jingrou, holding out her hand:
“Return my identification.”
Zhao Jingrou cast one last reluctant look at the license plate and handed her a small pouch.
A false smile returned to her lips, and her tone was sweet:
“Where are you going, dear?”
After confirming her documents were all intact, Yun Chuxia turned and walked away.
Zhao Jingrou’s voice followed softly:
“When your wings are strong enough, you fly away. Do you even understand what it means to be nurtured?”
Her words implied a heavy accusation of ingratitude.
Yun Chuxia stopped, glanced around the home that had tormented her for over two decades, and said coldly:
“From now on, we repay kindness with kindness, and enmity with enmity.”
