Chapter 6: Changing the Fiancée
Yun Qingqing immediately spotted Si Yuchuan.
He was young, dressed in a sharply tailored suit that emphasized broad shoulders and a narrow waist, with a finely sculpted, angular face. His deep-set, narrow eyes held a casual indifference.
So handsome, Yun Qingqing’s eyes sparkled as she lifted her skirt to approach him.
“Qingqing,” Zhao Jingrou suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm, her tone tense:
“Did you see your sister here?”
Irritated, Yun Qingqing shook her arm free abruptly and snapped,
“No, I didn’t. It’s better if she’s dead.”
When she looked up again, Si Yuchuan was nowhere to be seen.
Si Haochen came over to greet them and noticed Zhao Jingrou’s pale face, concern flickering in his eyes.
“Aunt, are you alright? Where’s Chu Xia? I don’t see her.”
A bead of cold sweat slid down Zhao Jingrou’s temple. Though a bad feeling gnawed at her heart, there was no reason for Yun Chuxia to run from the wedding.
She forced herself to smile, steadying her nerves,
“Everything’s fine. The ceremony is proceeding as planned. She might still be touching up her makeup.”
Si Haochen nodded and went to greet the other guests.
Zhao Jingrou’s calves trembled slightly. After the engagement was set, she had indeed relaxed her watch over Yun Chuxia.
If the Si family lost face at such an event, not only would Yun Corporation’s investment be at risk, but the Yun family’s continued presence in Yancheng could also be jeopardized.
Yun Hongbin draped an arm over her shoulder.
“Calm down. If it comes to it, let Qingqing stand in and finish the ceremony.”
Yun Qingqing rolled her eyes.
“No way.”
She might have agreed before, but ever since she saw Si Yuchuan, no one else could occupy her gaze.
She was determined to win him over.
*
The Su family’s car came to a stop.
But Su Muxue hesitated to get out.
Yun Chuxia anxiously watched the scrolling comments.
[The heroine has finally arrived. Why isn’t she getting out of the car?]
[She will. Let her hesitate a little.]
[The engagement ceremony has already started inside. The groom is ready to present the ring.]
[Wait, did anyone see that? Isn’t that the supporting female lead hiding behind that tree?]
Suddenly, the comment section flooded toward Yun Chuxia.
[Supporting female lead, what are you sneaking around here for?]
[Do you think I wouldn’t recognize you with the mask and hat?]
[Sneaky, are you planning to assassinate the heroine?]
Yun Chuxia was exasperated, wishing they would say something useful.
[Look, the heroine is getting out now!]
Su Muxue gracefully lifted her skirt and stepped down.
Her long black hair cascaded straight down to her waist, the white satin gown swayed like a delicate white flower under the moonlight. Her collarbones were exquisite, her skin pale and flawless, and her eyes bore a faint hint of frailty, making her appear all the more innocent and pure, evoking pity at first sight.
She proceeded slowly into the banquet hall.
The timing was perfect, just as the host announced the heroine’s entrance.
The spotlight shone upon her, capturing everyone’s attention.
*
The crowd applauded, and Si Haochen turned his head, frozen in place.
Si Yuchuan remained lazily poised, legs crossed, his left hand propping his forehead. When he saw Su Muxue, the corner of his eyebrow lifted slightly.
Interesting.
Zhao Jingrou nearly fainted. She grabbed Yun Hongbin’s sleeve.
“Who is that?”
Yun Hongbin read the situation carefully. Si Haochen clearly recognized the girl, and she even bore some resemblance to Yun Chuxia.
What was going on here?
Su Muxue stood before Si Haochen and smiled gently.
“Thank you for the dress, and thank you for the carefully prepared return banquet.”
Comments exploded: [Return banquet?]
[Wasn’t this an engagement? Where’s the supporting female lead?]
[What’s the groom’s reaction? Is he excited?]
[He looks a bit unhappy...]
Si Haochen frowned deeply as he examined Su Muxue’s gown, then asked,
“Where is Yun Chuxia?”
Yun Chuxia cursed herself for not being able to watch the live broadcast. She desperately wanted to know if the engagement had gone smoothly.
Suddenly, a heavy grip seized her collar.
She turned her head and met a pair of narrow, dark eyes.
