Chapter Sixty-Two: Sudden Change
Buffon sprang onto Broki’s shoulder, leaping high, then twisted in midair, his right leg drawn back, ready to strike Broki’s head with force. Suddenly, a powerful gust swept from his left; Broki’s giant axe was upon him, its blade meeting Buffon’s right leg.
After a thunderous crash, Buffon was forced back to the ground, while Broki staggered, nearly toppling over.
“Ha ha ha! Broki, look at you—you can barely stand!” Dorry mocked.
Broki ignored him, adjusted his posture, and swept his shield horizontally at Buffon again. His hands moved swiftly, but in his heart, he was deeply shaken.
If the first strike was a full-powered blow, it made sense that Buffon could push Broki back two steps. But just now, Buffon’s move hadn’t even fully formed, and still nearly knocked Broki off his feet.
“This kid is strong! Is he a giant born to the wrong mother?”
Buffon soared forward, avoiding Broki’s sweeping attack, but the giant axe followed relentlessly! If he failed to dodge, he would be bisected at the waist.
Buffon did not evade. He held his forward-flung posture, suspended in midair, thrust both hands downward against the shield, while his legs bent upward, unleashing a black slash wave that collided with the axe’s blade.
The instant the slash wave met the giant axe, a shockwave radiated outward from the point of impact. Even Sauro and Lily almost lost their balance.
Moments later, Broki’s axe spun free from his grasp, tracing a perfect arc before landing near the volcanic crater.
“Hahaha! Well done, boy. I truly underestimated you. I’ve taken three moves from you this round!” Broki set down his shield, hands on his hips, laughing skyward.
His demeanor showed not a hint of a loser’s gloom; on the contrary, he seemed to praise Buffon as a veteran would a promising youth.
Reiju spoke up at the right moment: “What a match—neither side giving an inch.”
Buffon rolled forward and rose to his feet, quietly admiring Reiju’s tact, then replied modestly, “You held back, senior.”
At this moment, everyone aboard the Juventus, except Baggio, was stunned. Previously, whenever Buffon used this move, they thought he was merely showing off or performing tricks. Only Baggio, who had felt its true force, understood its real power.
And this bizarre technique—no one could possibly predict it. It truly was a hidden trump card.
Broki bent forward, asking earnestly, “Kid, what’s the name of that move you just used?”
“Goalkeeper’s Secret Art: Scorpion’s Tail—Higuita Possession!” Buffon replied calmly, though inwardly he mused, “If my strength were greater, I could shatter the weapon outright.”
With that thought, Buffon’s yearning to gain from the two giants grew ever stronger.
“Hahaha! What kind of ridiculous name is that? But its power is impressive. Try to take down Dorry in two moves!” Broki laughed.
Hearing this, Reiju thought to herself, “Buffon always comes up with such strange names for his moves. What goes on in his head all day?”
Before Buffon could reply, Dorry interjected, “Kid, do you need a break?”
Buffon shook his head—no need!
Dorry laughed heartily, drew his sword, and slashed toward him.
This time, Buffon didn’t face the blow directly; he sidestepped, repeating his earlier tactic. He leapt onto Dorry’s arm, unleashed the Goalkeeper’s Secret Art: Pendulum Fracture, and sprinted up along Dorry’s arm.
“You think using the same trick will work on me—” Dorry began, only to feel a sharp pain in his hand.
He finally understood why Broki hadn’t managed to throw Buffon off, and why Broki’s left hand was still trembling after the fight.
But there was no time to dwell on it. He didn’t want Buffon to disarm him in three moves—it would mean he lost.
Dorry was bold and skilled; he raised his giant sword and slashed downward along his arm, hoping to force Buffon back.
But the agile Buffon was undaunted, leaping twice to dodge the blow, then charging upward.
Seeing this, Dorry threw aside his giant sword, calculated Buffon’s pace, and slapped his own shoulder, anticipating Buffon’s next move.
Faced with Dorry’s enormous hand, several times larger than himself, Buffon remained fearless.
Accelerating, he brought both hands behind him; sixty-six sewing needles shot forth, their threads flashing coldly, binding Dorry’s hand tightly.
Buffon accelerated again, racing toward Dorry’s nape, pulling the threads tight before the giant’s hand could crash down.
Everyone present, including Dorry, was baffled—what was he doing?
As Dorry was brought down by his own arm, the spectators suddenly understood!
“Hahaha! Well done, kid. Now I can finally prove Dorry isn’t as good as me!” Broki laughed heartily.
Buffon withdrew the threads and said, “Senior Dorry brought himself down.”
Dorry, just about to retort to Broki, heard Buffon’s words and laughed, “Lost is lost—at least it wasn’t to Broki!”
Broki was about to argue back when a sudden laugh rang out: “Ahahaha! Amazing! So many giants here—how impressive!”
Buffon turned to see a boy in a red vest, blue knee-length denim shorts, straw sandals, and a straw hat descending from above.
At the same time, from the nearby forest, a duck over a meter tall, wearing a flight helmet, burst forth, with a blue-haired woman riding atop it.
“Oh! I really lucked out—looks like Little Garden yielded more than just two giants!” Buffon thought to himself.
Seeing Buffon and his group, the duck screeched to a halt, nearly throwing its rider.
The blue-haired woman looked up at the four giants, her face exaggerated in shock as she shouted, “Karoo, run!”
Meanwhile, the straw-hat boy landed among the group, smiling as he said, “Hello, I’m Luffy. Could I have some of that roast meat?”
He pointed to the roasted dinosaur meat, still not entirely finished by the group, drooling with anticipation.
“Anyone with a D in their name is either a glutton or scatter-brained—and Luffy is both!” Buffon muttered inwardly.
Before anyone could respond, the blue-haired woman shouted, “Luffy! Are you insane? Aren’t you afraid these giants will eat you?”
Luffy turned, flashed his signature smile at her, and replied, “No way, Vivi! They don’t look like bad people to me!”
