Li Xun slowly opened her eyes and found herself surrounded by a profusion of roses. Yet, this was not her own garden. She was lying on a winding path, with endless roses stretching out on either side—white ones, red ones, their sweet fragrance saturating the air. As Li Xun stroked the velvet-soft petals and tried to recall how she had come to this place, a strange scent reached her through the dense aroma of roses—it was the unmistakable scent of blood.

Instinctively, Li Xun clutched the crystal pendant around her neck, only to discover, to her shock, that the crystal was gradually turning a deep blood-red. Determined to follow the trail of that metallic tang, she walked along the path, only to witness a horrifying scene: a delicate-looking girl was being firmly restrained by a young man, who had sunk his teeth into her neck and was drinking her blood! Li Xun wanted to flee, but her legs refused to obey. She watched as the girl’s once-tender skin withered and shriveled, her heart filled with unspeakable terror.

At last, the young man released the girl. He retrieved a handkerchief and elegantly wiped the blood from the corner of his lips, then shot Li Xun a wicked smile. In a blur, he appeared before her. Li Xun’s knees buckled; just as she was about to collapse, the young man reached out to steady her. She stared at him in horror as he leaned closer to her neck, and in utter despair, she squeezed her eyes shut.

With a hoarse yet irresistibly alluring voice, the young man whispered in her ear, “I’ve just fed. I won’t bite you.”

Li Xun opened her eyes and began to scrutinize the young man warily. His strikingly beautiful face was adorned with a devilish smile. His skin was so pale it seemed unearthly, lending him an air of cold detachment. Chestnut hair shimmered in the sunlight, and his dark red eyes brimmed with a bloodthirsty gleam. Though his frame was slender, he radiated an inexplicable nobility. Struggling to compose herself, Li Xun forced out the question, “Who are you?”

The young man’s smile deepened, and he replied in a teasing tone, “Me? Luo Chen. And you, little darling, what’s your name?” Terrified, Li Xun took a step back, intent on escaping, but as soon as she turned, Luo Yixuan seized her. With a gentle tug, he drew her into his arms, compelling her to meet his gaze. His voice, dark and enchanting, murmured, “Don’t run away.”

But Li Xun refused to listen, still struggling to break free. Luo Chen looked at her in surprise and said in disbelief, “Why aren’t you under my spell?” He examined her again, his gaze finally settling on the crystal pendant at her neck, his eyes growing darker and more profound. He reached out to snatch the pendant, but the moment his hand touched it, he recoiled, a large burn marring his skin. Defeated, he withdrew his hand.

Only then did Li Xun realize that Luo Chen had tried to enchant her, but the pendant had shielded her. Luo Chen regarded her intently, about to speak, when a shadow darted swiftly toward Li Xun. Just as the figure was about to sink its fangs into her neck, Luo Chen subdued him, grabbed a wooden stake, and plunged it into the intruder’s heart. The creature perished instantly.

Li Xun screamed uncontrollably at the sight. The events of the past few hours had left her utterly petrified. She collapsed to the ground, tears falling one by one, her once-white dress now soiled and stained.

Luo Chen watched the frightened, sobbing girl, and an inexplicable feeling stirred within him. He crouched down, gathered her into his arms, and whisked her away at an astonishing speed.

Li Xun, forgetting her fear, clung tightly to his clothes. Luo Chen carried the scent of cool mint, and for a fleeting moment, Li Xun felt certain he would not harm her—a conviction whose origin she could not fathom.

They stopped before a vast castle, surrounded by yet more roses. Li Xun wondered at the endless abundance of roses, but said nothing. Luo Chen carried her into the castle, whose grandeur and opulence made her curious about Luo Yixuan’s true identity.

“Brother Luo Chen, who is she?” A blonde girl dressed in a black miniskirt suddenly appeared. When her beautiful violet eyes fell on Li Xun in Luo Chen’s arms, a flash of disdain crossed them.

Luo Yixuan gently set Li Xun down on a plush sofa, turned to the blonde girl with a flirtatious smile, leaned close, and pressed a light kiss to her lips. In a seductive voice, he murmured, “Rhein, you know I don’t like anyone interfering in my affairs.”

Rhein hesitated, then protested reluctantly, “Brother Luo Chen, you can’t—”

Luo Chen shot her a cold glance, and Rhein’s words died in her throat. She stood there, stunned, watching as Luo Chen picked Li Xun up from the sofa and carried her upstairs to a bedroom, a mist rising in her violet eyes.
