There is a girl I like.

Qiao Wei’s mood was unsettled by Rhine’s words. She wandered alone through the garden outside the venue, lost in thought, when she suddenly caught sight of Luo Chen standing by a distant bed of roses.

Just as Qiao Wei was about to approach, a girl appeared. She had striking black hair that cascaded to her waist, and her fair face was set off by eyes the color of amber. She walked up softly and called, “Brother Chen…”

Luo Chen, deep in thought, abruptly looked up at the sound of her voice. “Su Mo!” he exclaimed.

He pulled Su Mo into his arms, holding her close. From afar, Qiao Wei watched their intimate gesture, rooted to the spot in stunned silence, a faint ache rising in her nose. When Su Mo’s amber eyes seemed to glance in her direction, Qiao Wei shrank back with a guilty start, not noticing the proud look that flickered across Su Mo’s face.

“Didn’t you promise to save me, Brother Chen? Why have you left me waiting alone for so long… Were you lying to me?” Su Mo leaned into Luo Chen’s embrace, closed her eyes, and murmured softly, her voice gentle and melodious.

Luo Chen frowned, Qiao Wei’s smiling face flashing before his eyes. He steadied himself and looked at Su Mo, his voice tender, all his usual indifference gone. “I’m doing everything I can. We just need to wait for Qiao Wei to bring the sorcerer to cast the spell, and everything will—”

Before he could finish, Su Mo’s eyes flew open, shimmering amber burning with resentment. She cut him off sharply, “Then why are you stalling? You don’t care about me anymore! It’s her you care about now! Luo Chen, you’ve changed. You used to treat me so well, but now you don’t care at all. I hate you!” With a flash of eerie light, she vanished into the night.

Luo Chen let his arms fall, dejected, but then heard a rustling in the bushes nearby. He called out coldly, “Who’s there?”

Qiao Wei stood up awkwardly. In an instant, Luo Chen was at her side. Qiao Wei said quietly, “I saw it by accident. I truly wasn’t eavesdropping…”

Luo Chen stared at her in surprise. Remembering Su Mo’s words, he forced down a surge of inexplicable guilt and said coldly, “Go back inside. What are you doing out here?” With that, he turned and strode back into the venue.

At last, Qiao Wei’s long-held tears spilled over. She stood there, wiping her eyes hard, took several deep breaths, and then walked into the hall as if nothing had happened.

Rhine was still downing glasses of red wine as though it were water. Qiao Wei had just picked up a glass when Luo Xuan, who had been surrounded by a group of girls, suddenly appeared beside her. All eyes in the hall turned toward them.

“This is the girl I like. So, my apologies, but I won’t be accepting any other girl,” Luo Xuan declared, his crimson eyes gazing deeply at Qiao Wei. Caught off guard, Qiao Wei looked away, embarrassed by his intensity.

A hint of hurt flashed in Luo Xuan’s eyes. Unexpectedly, he pulled Qiao Wei into his arms. The intimacy of their posture made his declaration all the more convincing, and the crowd immediately knelt in acknowledgment of Qiao Wei.
