The Death of Xiaoxiao
All through the night, the group sat silently on the grass. When the sun began to peek over the mountains, the ice on Xiaoxiao melted, and she started to stir, eager to pounce on Qiao Wei.
Rhine moved instantly, seizing Xiaoxiao’s slender arm and addressed the three standing aside, “Decide what to do quickly! If she doesn’t drink fresh human blood soon, she won’t survive!”
Luo Xuan stepped forward, the crimson in her eyes growing brighter, her elegant fingers slowly pointing toward Xiaoxiao. Qiao Wei swiftly blocked Xiaoxiao, the stubborn determination in her gaze halting Luo Xuan’s movement.
Qiao Wei turned, biting her lip, and offered her wrist to Xiaoxiao.
With a sudden bite, Qiao Wei’s wrist was fiercely seized. Bright red blood streamed down her arm, and in the quiet, the sound of Xiaoxiao drinking was unmistakable.
Luo Chen approached, pulled Qiao Wei away, and wrapped her wound with a silk scarf. After feeding, Xiaoxiao grew much calmer. Rhine gently stroked Xiaoxiao’s little head, softly called her name, and Xiaoxiao looked up at Rhine in confusion, trembling as she uttered two words—soft but clear, “Sister… Sister.”
A figure hidden in the woods for some time watched as Xiaoxiao drank Qiao Wei's blood; satisfaction gleamed in his dark green eyes. Suddenly, he darted out toward Xiaoxiao. Luo Chen quickly pulled Rhine behind him, and a cold flash descended from his raised arm. It seemed the vampire would perish, but unexpectedly, the light was blocked by a circle of radiance that appeared around him.
The vampire’s long black hair covered most of his face, revealing only a cold smirk at his lips. Suddenly, he sank his fangs into Xiaoxiao’s neck, draining her blood in an instant. Qiao Wei, crying, tried to rush to Xiaoxiao, but Luo Chen held her tightly.
The vampire released Xiaoxiao and vanished at an astonishing speed. Only then did Luo Chen let go, allowing Qiao Wei to reach Xiaoxiao’s side. But the moment Qiao Wei’s hand touched Xiaoxiao’s skin, Xiaoxiao turned to ash.
Rhine walked over, gently patted Qiao Wei’s back, and began to cry herself.
The world seemed to return to silence, the dawn tinged with an unbearable bitterness.
Luo Chen watched Qiao Wei’s tears, unable to bear it, and looked away. He spoke gravely, “Why didn’t you act just now? That guy must have been ‘Prisoner’. But how does he possess abilities only purebloods have?”
Luo Xuan gazed into the distance, as if contemplating something. After a long pause, she finally said, “Because he has drunk the blood of a wizard, an angel, and a pureblood. But… his life won’t last. Everything about this incident seems meticulously orchestrated… I have a bad feeling.”
With that, the two fell into silence again.
