The soul divided in two
As soon as Su Mo pulled Luo Chen out of Lunar Eclipse City, a familiar figure appeared before them. In those crimson eyes surged a deep resentment. “Stop.”
Luo Xuan’s voice was not loud, yet it carried an irresistible force that made people obey. Su Mo froze in place, forced to a halt, standing beside Luo Chen where they were.
It was as if Luo Chen was awakened by Luo Xuan’s voice. He lifted his head slightly to look at Luo Xuan, but before he could say anything, Luo Xuan swiftly seized Su Mo and, like a phantom, whisked her back into Lunar Eclipse City.
Su Mo stared in terror at Luo Xuan’s cold profile, screaming hysterically at Luo Chen, “Brother Chen, save me! He’ll kill me! Save me!”
Upon hearing her cries, Luo Chen rushed after them, following all the way to the palace where they lived, but by the time he arrived, Luo Xuan was nowhere to be seen.
Luo Chen pushed open the door and entered. From Qiao Wei’s room, he heard Su Mo’s piercing screams, making his heart lurch as he dashed inside. The scene that greeted him filled him with both astonishment and joy: Qiao Wei, who had long been dead, now stood alive before Su Mo. Wisps of scattered souls poured endlessly from Su Mo’s body, flowing into Qiao Wei. Luo Xuan and Rhine stood nearby, preventing Su Mo from escaping.
Seeing Luo Chen standing there in shock, Su Mo shrieked, begging for help: “Brother Chen, save me! My soul isn't stable yet—she’ll drain it from me! I’ll die! Luo Chen!”
Only then did Luo Chen react, grabbing Su Mo and pulling her toward the doorway, halting the outflow of her soul. Qiao Wei’s face was still deathly pale, and she almost fainted, but Luo Xuan was quick to catch her. Luo Chen held onto the equally frail Su Mo, staring at Qiao Wei, lips moving but finding himself unable to utter a word.
Qiao Wei forced herself to rally, pushing Luo Xuan away with all her remaining strength and retreating several steps before steadying herself against a bookshelf. Her gaze was as cold as ice as she looked at the four people before her. Her lips moved slightly, but her words were filled with hatred: “Thanks to you, I am now in this half-alive, half-dead state. Are you disappointed that I didn’t die?”
“Qiao Qiao, don’t be like this. You’re still very weak,” Luo Xuan pleaded, desperate to approach her. But Qiao Wei’s voice was cold as she snapped, “Don’t come any closer! I know I’m no longer human! You forced me to become a vampire! Forced me to drink blood! Forced me to kill! I hate you! I hate all of you hypocrites!” The intensity of her emotions made her face even paler.
Luo Xuan’s eyes dimmed, and Rhine beside him remained silent. After a long, heavy silence, Luo Chen gathered his courage and looked up at Qiao Wei. “I’m sorry, Qiao Wei. I will repay what I owe you!”
But Qiao Wei looked at Luo Chen with utter disgust. “You can’t repay it! Get out! Don’t ever let me see you again!” As she spoke, she seized a decorative vase from the shelf and hurled it with all her strength at Luo Chen. The vase shattered with a crash, and a shard flew toward Su Mo’s face, but Luo Chen quickly shielded her. A gash appeared on his handsome cheek, but it healed in an instant.
Qiao Wei no longer looked at them. Exhausted, she collapsed to the ground, her vision blacking out, when suddenly a pair of warm hands gathered her up. She fell into a strong embrace and heard Luo Xuan’s voice in her ear—firm, yet laced with pain: “Little one, even if you hate me, I will always stay by your side.”
