Dual-colored Eyes
"Dust, it's already dawn. Let's go back, back to our old home." Su Mo watched as the sun slowly rose, gently holding Luo Chen's hand. Luo Chen said nothing, simply allowing Su Mo to lead him onward.
A chilling, creaking sound suddenly pierced the air.
Su Mo scanned their surroundings with sharp vigilance. It wasn't her imagination—she had heard the cry of vampires. "Chen, there are many vampires approaching! Please, pull yourself together!"
Luo Chen barely raised his gaze, showing no reaction at all. A pack of vampires eyed them hungrily, but none dared to draw near.
"It's been a long time, Your Highness Luo Chen," Conai drawled as he strolled closer, his emerald eyes brimming with unmasked greed. "Ah... it seems Qiao Wei has already been sacrificed. What a pity! But this must be Miss Su Mo. Even though your angelic essence has faded, you still have an aura about you—what a delicious scent you must have!"
Luo Chen's expression grew colder and colder. He clenched his fists so tightly that his eyes shifted from dark red to a blazing crimson. Several flashes of icy light streaked through the air, instantly reducing every vampire around Conai to dust. The fiercest of those beams struck Conai’s shield, leaving a jagged crack and forcing him to stagger back several steps. Conai merely smiled and continued, "It seems Prince Luo Xuan has told you about me. Your Highness is not in the best of moods today, I see. I won’t intrude further." With those words, he vanished without a trace.
Su Mo looked at Luo Chen, a trace of grievance in her eyes. "Brother Chen, you must have known this would happen before you saved me. Since everything has already come to this, why are you still like this? Or..." Her gaze suddenly dimmed, and a mist seemed to settle over her amber eyes. "Is it that you love her?"
A deep pain stabbed through Luo Chen’s heart. He forced down the surging emotions, embraced Su Mo, and made himself speak, "I'm sorry, Su Mo. It's my fault. It's just that I feel so guilty. Can you understand? Can we go home now?"
"Yes!" Su Mo nodded, her heart brimming with happiness.
Elsewhere, Conai clutched the wound on his shoulder, his face twisted with fury as he spoke to the Elder. "How could this happen? Why won’t the wound heal?"
The Elder replied humbly, "Because you were wounded by a pureblood. Such injuries are difficult to heal quickly. Please don’t worry, with proper rest you will recover in time." He hesitated, then added, "And... my reward? The blood for today... may I have it?"
Conai shot the Elder a look of utter disgust. "The Ancestor's blood only sustains your life. You crave my blood to grant you power, still clinging to your humanity! Hmph... it's useless now."
With a wicked smile, Conai lunged, sinking his fangs into the Elder’s neck and draining him in an instant. Suddenly, one of Conai’s eyes shifted from green to red, the mismatched colors gleaming with a strange light. He laughed madly and muttered to himself, "So the Ancestor’s blood remains within him, unable to disappear. Ha, I feel invigorated! Powerful!" He glanced at his shoulder, where the wound was already healing rapidly, and his gaze grew cold and sinister. "I will have your blood! Luo Xuan, Luo Chen, just you wait!"
