Chapter Twelve: Taking Song Yu, the Comic Foil, to Watch a Play at the Ji Family's Residence

The petty scoundrel Ji Han was currently fighting demons with Song Miaoke.
After Su Zhihan finished her shower, she received a call from Madam Ji.
Listening to the elder’s concern on the other end, Su Zhihan took the opportunity to air her grievances properly.
She didn’t mention Song Miaoke at all, only bringing up the matter of Lin Pingting.
Madam Ji sighed deeply and said, “This time, I misjudged her. I thought that girl was a good person, but it turns out she was just putting on a good act in front of me.”
“Her parents are strict with her, and they have always been respectful and polite around me as a family. But now it seems all of that was fake.”
Su Zhihan knew quite a bit about the Lin family; the original text even devoted a section to describing them.
The Lin household was nothing but a den of wolves and tigers, with no decent person among them.
However, there was one tragic figure in the Lin family: Lin’s aunt. According to the original story, this aunt was beaten to death by her husband.
She never did anything wrong, but was destroyed by the pack of predators in that family.
Lin Pingting feigned pity for her aunt, but she was actually one of the main culprits behind her aunt’s miserable fate. She was a major accomplice during the whole family’s bullying of her aunt.
Her aunt’s marriage owed much to her — if she hadn’t drugged her aunt, she wouldn’t have been caught in an affair at the family banquet.
Being caught at one’s own family banquet was a script concocted by the Lin family themselves.
Under pressure from all sides, Lin’s aunt was forced to marry a hideous and cruel old man.
Lin Pingting feared becoming the next Lin aunt and constantly beautified herself inwardly, but in truth, she was no different from her family — equally despicable.
Madam Ji had never suffered hardship; she had always been doted on by her husband, so she was rather naive, which led to her being deceived.
“Auntie, don’t be sad. It’s better now that you’ve seen the truth. Lin Pingting might come to you to complain, maybe even fabricate stories about Ji Han’s girlfriend. Just don’t believe her.”
Su Zhihan didn’t have to guess — Lin Pingting would definitely come to tattle, and she would focus her attacks mainly on Song Miaoke.
Now that Su Zhihan had cut off that path, she wanted to see how Lin Pingting would report.
Madam Ji never doubted Su Zhihan’s words, so she agreed at once.
They chatted for two hours. When they finally hung up, Madam Ji was reluctant to end the call: “Zhihan, you haven’t come to see me in days. Even if you’re busy with work, remember to rest and visit your old aunt more often.”
“Your parents aren’t around now, so I have to take care of you. That Ji Han boy is always busy with work and his little girlfriend, he’s already forgotten this old mother of his. You must not be like him.”
Su Zhihan smiled brightly. Of course, with their sweet and tender relationship, they were enough to make anyone sick with envy.

“All right, Auntie, I’ll come visit you tomorrow.” Hehe, she planned to stir up some fun tomorrow; Lin Pingting would probably come to tattle then too.
Sigh—life was feeling unusually comfortable.
Not being a malicious supporting character anymore, there was always a show to watch every day, and even if nothing else, she could rob Ji Han now and then—life was good!
Watching alone was dull; it was better to bring along a sidekick.
Song Yu, who had been dragged along, was more than happy to play that role.
They could invite him to watch the drama, but better to keep him out of the dirty work.
The next day, Su Zhihan finished work early and drove straight to the Ji family’s old residence.
In the novel, the place where the male lead’s parents and elders lived was always called the old residence.
Song Yu had already arrived. He was a boss too, but still had time for fun and games every day.
Ji Han, as a boss, was busy with meetings and business trips, yet still managed to squeeze in time for romance.
He had an early business trip the next morning and still fought demons at night—truly worthy of being the male lead!
“Hey, nice outfit today, pretty casual,” Su Zhihan said, looking at Song Yu’s attire, feeling he looked years younger.
This casual look was much better. Why wear suits and ties every day? Being a boss didn’t mean you couldn’t dress freely.
Song Yu bumped fists with her, grinning: “I specially changed into this outfit—good taste, right?”
Seeing the two of them, Madam Ji smiled so much that wrinkles appeared at the corners of her eyes.
She was happier to see them than even her own son.
“Oh, you two came together, that’s wonderful. You’re both so much better than Ji Han, that unfilial boy. He didn’t even stay home yesterday, just popped by for a moment.”
Whenever she mentioned Ji Han, Madam Ji got upset—did he really treat home like a stranger? What kind of son was that? Clearly, he was her nemesis!
As good brothers, Su Zhihan and Song Yu naturally defended Ji Han, each taking a turn praising him, soon coaxing Madam Ji into a beaming smile.
After a bit of joking, Madam Ji checked her phone and her smile vanished instantly.
Su Zhihan raised an eyebrow at Song Yu: something’s up! Stay alert!
Song Yu winked at her: got it!
Sure enough, not long after, Lin Pingting arrived.

She hadn’t even stepped inside when her sweet voice called out “Aunt Ji.”
Su Zhihan’s skin crawled at the syrupy tone.
What happened to that arrogant attitude yesterday? Come on, shout it out!
Madam Ji didn’t move from the sofa; she just kept urging Su Zhihan and Song Yu to eat.
“You two eat more; I prepared these because you both like them.”
Lin Pingting entered to see Su Zhihan sitting arrogantly, waving at her, while Song Yu was being coaxed by Madam Ji to eat.
A bad feeling suddenly rose in her chest.
But she quickly composed herself and smiled gently: “Aunt Ji, I haven’t visited these days. Is your health any better? I noticed you were coughing last time, so I specially sent over some kumquats. These are imported, very effective for stopping coughs.”
Madam Ji smiled slightly, her tone courteous: “I’m quite well. The kumquats you brought last time were good. We have some at home too; you can take some when you leave, but ours are domestic. I hope you don’t mind.”
Lin Pingting’s expression stiffened instantly. She knew Madam Ji’s attitude toward her was off, but could only force a stiff smile: “Not at all, how could I mind? Aunt, you’re too kind.”
Su Zhihan and Song Yu exchanged a glance, each holding a fruit plate, leisurely watching the show.
It was thrilling! Although Madam Ji was simple, she was not foolish.
If she liked someone, she would lavish them with gifts and praise them endlessly—even if they farted, she’d commend their digestive system.
But if she disliked you, no matter how good the gift was, she wouldn’t care.
Lin Pingting was clearly in the latter category.
Su Zhihan almost burst out laughing when Lin Pingting emphasized the imported kumquats.
No matter where they came from, kumquats probably worked the same. Domestic ones were cheaper and tastier, and the Ji family certainly wasn’t short of them.
Insisting on “imported” only handed them a complaint to use against you.
But Su Zhihan loved the drama. She popped a kumquat into her mouth, sighed, and said, “I’ve never had imported kumquats before. I wonder if they taste any different.”
Song Yu sighed similarly: “Me neither. Seems like we’re quite inexperienced.”
Their playful banter made Lin Pingting’s face turn green with anger.
