Chapter 30: The Leopard Attacks
Fortunately, this was just a passing rain shower—it came quickly and left just as fast.
Twenty minutes later, the downpour faded into a light drizzle, and within a few more minutes, even that had ceased. The distant sunset began to peek through.
The sky cleared up once more. Lin Feng stepped out of the treehouse and took off his shirt. With a gentle twist, a significant amount of water poured out, showing just how thoroughly soaked his clothes had been.
Feeling a surge of annoyance, he couldn't help but grumble, "It’s all your fault. If you had done as I said, we wouldn't be soaked like drowned rats right now."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Qin Meng scoffed, "Lin Feng, you have the nerve to complain? You knew perfectly well it was going to rain, yet instead of patching the treehouse with mud yourself, you ordered the three of them to do it."
"Things ended up this way because of you. It’s all your fault!"
"Can’t you see? One of them is injured, one is sick, and one is poisoned!"
"Besides, Young Master Wang is the son of the City Lord. When has he ever had to do such menial work?"
"Furthermore, what right do you have to order him around?"
Hearing this, He Tiantian chimed in, "Exactly. Lin Feng, who do you think you are? You aren't fit to order us around."
Seeing them defending him, Wang Xingyu’s expression grew arrogant. "Order me to do things? What gives you the right?"
"What gives me the right?" Lin Feng shouted with a cold sneer. "The right comes from the fact that I built this shelter, and I was the one who worked hard to find all the supplies inside."
"I call the shots here!"
"Get out! All of you, get out!"
As he spoke, he rushed into the treehouse, grabbed Wang Xingyu, and shoved him toward the exit. Before the rain, he hadn't had a sufficient reason to drive them away. Now, he did. He certainly wasn't going to be polite.
Wang Xingyu was no match for him and was shoved to the ground, letting out a sharp cry of pain: "Ah..."
Seeing this, Qin Meng immediately grabbed a coconut and hurled it with all her might at Lin Feng’s head.
*Thud!*
Lin Feng was struck hard; he felt dazed and deeply wounded inside. He hadn't expected Qin Meng to treat him like this. What hurt even more was that, after hitting him, she immediately rushed to help Wang Xingyu up, asking with concern, "Young Master Wang, are you alright?"
Then, she turned back to scold him: "Lin Feng, are you looking for death? How dare you hit Young Master Wang? Don't you know he is the City Lord's son? Get on your knees and apologize immediately, and beg for his forgiveness."
Lin Feng roared in fury, "Get out! You get out too, leave right now!"
With that, he stepped forward and kicked out toward Wang Xingyu.
"Stop!"
Qin Meng shouted, throwing her body in front of Wang Xingyu and pulling out a dagger, ready to fight.
"Damn it!"
Lin Feng, on the verge of madness, cursed under his breath. He stopped caring about anything else, gritted his teeth, and lunged at Qin Meng.
Cheng Xiangyu stepped in to mediate again: "Enough! Stop arguing. It’s done, and blaming each other won't help."
"The most important thing right now is to wring out our clothes and figure out how to get the fire going again so we can dry them and survive the cold night."
"Otherwise, if we catch a cold, it will be a major problem."
"So, Lin Feng, Wang Xingyu, I’m asking you two men to step away for a while. Once we’ve wrung out our clothes and put them back on, you can come back."
Lin Feng had been reluctant to lay a hand on Qin Meng, so this gave him a perfect excuse to stop. He curled his lip and walked away into the distance.
Wang Xingyu followed him and leaned in close to his ear: "I overestimated your importance in Qin Meng’s heart. I didn't even have to say anything; she dumped you and threw herself at me."
"This is the difference between a person like me and a poor kid like you—the difference between heaven and earth!"
He laughed, "Heh, aren't you feeling miserable and hurt right now?"
"Don't go getting defiant. If you dare lay a hand on me, I guarantee you'll regret it."
"If you don't believe me, just try it!"
As Lin Feng wrung the water from his clothes, listening to this only made him angrier. He wrung the fabric with increasing force. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore; he snapped his shirt and whipped it hard across Wang Xingyu’s body.
"Ah..."
Knowing he was no match for Lin Feng, Wang Xingyu didn't fight back, instead collapsing to the ground with a shrill cry.
A moment later, He Tiantian and Qin Meng came running over.
Seeing Wang Xingyu on the ground, Qin Meng shouted angrily, "Lin Feng, are you tired of living? How dare you hit Young Master Wang again!"
She despised Lin Feng now. She could see that if Cheng Xiangyu hadn't intervened earlier, his fist would have landed on her. He didn't listen to her, and now he even wanted to hit her!
Qin Meng helped Wang Xingyu up, asking solicitously, "Young Master Wang, are you alright?"
Wang Xingyu deliberately put on a pained expression: "It hurts, it hurts so much! I saw Lin Feng refusing to leave and trying to peek at you changing clothes, so I tried to talk him out of it, telling him it was immoral."
"I didn't expect him to whip me with his shirt. Look, he left a red welt on my back."
Qin Meng saw the large red mark on Wang Xingyu’s back and was instantly incensed, believing his story entirely.
She immediately lashed out, "Lin Feng, I never imagined you were such a pervert, daring to peek at us changing!"
He Tiantian raised her hand, ready to slap him: "Scumbag! Pervert! How dare you spy on us? Go to hell! Go to hell!"
Fortunately, Lin Feng’s reflexes were fast, and he dodged in time, or he would have taken a slap for nothing.
He roared, "I didn't! I wasn't peeking! This jerk is framing me!"
He Tiantian scoffed, "Bullshit. Who do you think you are to say Young Master Wang would frame you?"
Qin Meng added, "Exactly. Why would Young Master Wang frame you? It’s obvious you were spying on us, he caught you, and now you’re retaliating because you’re afraid he’ll tell us."
Lin Feng was speechless. He realized now that they would never believe him, and even if they knew Wang Xingyu was framing him, they wouldn't say a word in his defense.
Because Wang Xingyu was the City Lord’s son, and they were all desperate to curry favor with him.
Lin Feng didn't want to say another word. He returned to the shelter, planning to start a fire to dry his clothes.
However, he realized there was hardly any firewood left.
He asked, "Cheng Xiangyu, when I went to look for Qin Meng, not only did you fail to patch the treehouse with mud, but you didn't even gather any dry firewood?"
Cheng Xiangyu said apologetically, "I’m sorry, Lin Feng. I wanted to look for firewood, but with my injured foot, it was difficult, so I only collected a few pieces nearby."
"Besides, as long as the fire wasn't too large, the wood should have been enough, but they burned it all up to roast mushrooms."
*Huh?*
Lin Feng was stunned. He hadn't expected the proud, pampered socialite Cheng Xiangyu to apologize to him.
He also noticed she wasn't lying; there was no dry wood left in the vicinity, clearly all collected and burned. And indeed, with her leg injury, it would have been difficult for her to go further afield.
It seemed Cheng Xiangyu had changed significantly.
Perhaps he could bring her along. After all, being alone sometimes grew rather dull.
*Wooo... Meow...*
Just then, the sound of a leopard echoed through the jungle.
Lin Feng went on high alert immediately. The sound was very close.
The leopard was nearby!
Even worse, the beast was out hunting immediately after a heavy rain, meaning it must be starving. And a starving leopard was the most dangerous kind of all.
