Chapter 6 She Is Still Alive
Yuan Shuang had originally intended to take Cheng Xiangyu away immediately, making her his slave to serve him. However, after hearing what she had to say, he changed his mind slightly, deciding to go and see if he could acquire some supplies.
He feigned anger and shouted, "That scumbag! How dare he bully my boss! Take me to him; I will avenge you right now!"
As for whether this person was formidable, he could not care less. He was confident that in this world, there was no one who could be his match—at least not on this desert island.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Xiangyu laughed happily. "Haha, that’s great! With you stepping in, you’ll definitely be able to teach that bastard a good lesson!"
With that, she led Yuan Shuang toward the place where Lin Feng was located.
...
Back at Lin Feng’s side, after much hard work, he had finally used vines to weave together the roots and branches of a banyan tree to form a treehouse.
He looked up at the sky and then at the dew on the leaves and weeds, concluding that there was likely no rain expected for the night. He decided not to follow his original plan of smearing clay over the vines to better weatherproof the shelter. Instead, he cleared the weeds inside the treehouse, gathered some vines and long, thin grass, and wove them into a simple, comfortable straw mat.
He then prepared to look for some dry wood and medicinal herbs to build a fire for warmth and to repel mosquitoes. Heaven knows what kind of venomous insects were on this island, and some of them could be lethal!
*Rustle, rustle, rustle...*
While Lin Feng was gathering dry wood, he suddenly heard a sound from ahead. Looking up, he saw the trees shaking violently.
"Oh no, could it be a wild beast?"
Lin Feng quickly picked up a wooden stick, watching the spot where the trees were swaying with extreme vigilance. To his surprise, a woman emerged from the thicket.
It was his female colleague, He Tiantian. She was still wearing her blue uniform and black stockings, though the stockings were torn with several large holes. It was unclear whether they had been ripped or snagged by thorns. Her round, cute face bore a clear slap mark, and there were red scratch marks on her arms; it was obvious she had been bullied.
"He Tiantian!"
Lin Feng felt a surge of excitement upon seeing her. If she was alive, it meant that Qin Meng might also be alive. Moreover, as Qin Meng’s best friend, she might have news of her.
He Tiantian, however, frowned and looked at Lin Feng with deep suspicion. She had just narrowly escaped being assaulted and was terrified that he, too, would act like that man, taking advantage of the fact that they were on a desert island to do as he pleased.
Lin Feng then asked, "He Tiantian, have you seen Qin Meng? Is she still alive?"
Seeing his genuine concern for Qin Meng and noticing that he wasn't making any inappropriate moves, He Tiantian relaxed slightly and nodded at Lin Feng.
Seeing this, Lin Feng was overwhelmed with excitement. "You mean... Qin Meng is still alive?"
She nodded again.
Lin Feng was even more agitated, repeatedly asking, "Where is she? Where is she..."
She pointed in the direction she had come from. "Qin Meng is over there. She’s in danger right now—you have to go save her! I barely managed to escape from there myself."
Qin Meng was in danger? Lin Feng felt deeply worried, but he did not panic. Instead, he suppressed his impulse and calmly asked He Tiantian what had happened.
Feeling that Lin Feng was unlikely to force himself upon her and worried about Qin Meng's safety, He Tiantian quickly explained. It turned out that she and Qin Meng had woken up in the same area on the island. They were lucky enough to have a suitcase nearby containing clothes, water, and some food. Neither of them was particularly delicate; upon realizing they were stranded, they calmed down and started looking for ways to survive. They used a small knife to cut branches and used the clothes from the suitcase to build a temporary tent near the edge of the woods.
Just as they finished and were preparing to rest, a burly man suddenly appeared. Without a word, he tried to claim their tent and all their supplies as his own. Not only that, he demanded they become his women, wash his clothes, cook for him, and serve him well. He claimed that this was a desert island with no laws, where the strong prey on the weak, and no one could do anything to him.
When they refused, he tried to force himself on them. In desperation, they abandoned the tent and their supplies to run away. Later, to avoid being caught by the man, they split up.
After listening, Lin Feng frowned. "So, He Tiantian, you can only confirm the general direction Qin Meng is in, but you don't know exactly where she is?"
He Tiantian nodded.
Lin Feng felt even more worried. At the same time, he was glad he had remained calm and hadn't rushed off blindly, or it would have been in vain.
Lin Feng thought for a moment and asked, "Did that man chase after you or after Qin Meng?"
He Tiantian replied, "He chased me!"
Lin Feng pressed, "Are you sure?"
He Tiantian nodded. "I'm very sure."
Lin Feng breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that as long as the man wasn't chasing Qin Meng, she was safe for the moment. Although this was a desert island, given Qin Meng’s self-sufficiency, she should be able to manage to survive.
For now, he had to settle He Tiantian in first. He couldn't afford to be distracted.
Lin Feng said, "He Tiantian, I’ve built a shelter nearby. You go there first, and I’ll find a chance to save Qin Meng!"
"Okay!" He Tiantian replied.
With that, she proactively gathered the firewood Lin Feng had collected into her arms. Lin Feng nodded in satisfaction. He silently mused that although He Tiantian used to look down on him—often telling Qin Meng that he wasn't good enough for her and trying to sabotage their relationship—she was much better than that spoiled brat Cheng Xiangyu. At the very least, she knew how to help without being asked.
As Lin Feng led He Tiantian toward the shelter, he continued to pick up firewood and dig up some medicinal herbs. He Tiantian asked, "Lin Feng, why are you digging up these weeds? They can't be used as firewood."
Lin Feng explained, "Do you know about mosquito coils? The herbs I'm digging can be used to make them. If we put them in the fire, the smoke will help repel mosquitoes and keep us from getting bitten. On this island, all sorts of venomous insects could exist; one careless moment could be life-threatening!"
He Tiantian nodded, secretly thinking that Lin Feng wasn't as useless as she had thought; he was quite capable, as expected of a medical student.
When they arrived near the shelter, they suddenly heard Cheng Xiangyu’s voice from ahead: "Brother Yuan, this is the shelter that bastard built. He isn't here; he must have gone to collect supplies. When he gets back, you must teach him a good lesson for me!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Feng gritted his teeth in anger, lamenting that he had kindly saved Cheng Xiangyu, only for her to bite the hand that fed her and bring someone to take revenge on him.
"Ah... it's him!"
He Tiantian let out a sharp scream, for Yuan Shuang was the very man who had tried to assault them!
