Chapter 7: He Is Not a Good Man
"What's wrong?" Lin Feng asked, turning his head.
He Tian-tian did not answer, but the look of terror on her face said everything. Lin Feng, however, felt a sense of relief. Since this man was here, it confirmed that Qin Meng was safe.
Meanwhile, Yuan Shuang was looking over the shelter Lin Feng had built with great satisfaction. It was far better than the tents Qin Meng and her group had set up—a real place to shield them from the wind and rain. In his mind, this shelter already belonged to him.
"Who's there?" Hearing the scream, he looked over quickly. Seeing He Tian-tian, he couldn't help but smile with delight.
At the same time, Cheng Xiang-yu looked over as well. Seeing Lin Feng, she became incredibly agitated. "Brother Yuan, that's the bastard who bullied me! Beat him up!"
"Alright!" Yuan Shuang agreed with a grin and charged at Lin Feng. For the sake of the woman and the shelter, he had to take Lin Feng down.
Seeing Yuan Shuang attack without a word, Lin Feng sighed to himself; He Tian-tian hadn't been lying—this guy really was a piece of work. He decided not to hold back. He dodged the incoming fist with a slight turn and then struck with full force, knocking him to the ground.
"How is that possible?" Cheng Xiang-yu stood there, stunned in disbelief.
Yuan Shuang lay on the ground, his expression darkening. "I was careless. I didn't expect you to be a trained fighter." He stood up, grabbed a sturdy branch, and lunged at Lin Feng once more.
"That's it! Brother Yuan was just being careless! This time, Lin Feng is going to have a miserable time," Cheng Xiang-yu thought.
He Tian-tian, meanwhile, crouched down and curled into a ball, trembling. She was terrified that Lin Feng wouldn't be able to handle Yuan Shuang, and she couldn't bear to imagine the consequences if he lost.
However, even after Yuan Shuang got serious, he was still beaten to the ground by Lin Feng within a few moves. He was clearly no match.
"No, that's impossible!" Cheng Xiang-yu cried out, incredulous. He Tian-tian let out a sigh of relief.
Having been beaten down again, Yuan Shuang realized that Lin Feng’s strength far exceeded his own. A flicker of fear entered his eyes as he looked at him. He climbed to his feet and fled as fast as he could.
Lin Feng considered giving chase, but stopped after two steps. The most important thing right now was finding a way to survive; he didn't want to waste time or energy pursuing Yuan Shuang.
Cheng Xiang-yu was left feeling incredibly awkward and terrified of what Lin Feng might do to her. "Brother Yuan, wait for me!" she shouted, turning to run after him.
He Tian-tian called out to her, "Miss, stop! Don't go to him, he's a bad person!"
Lin Feng was speechless. "Why are you calling out to her?" Cheng Xiang-yu was spoiled, useless, and ungrateful. He had half a mind to be rid of her; why would he want her tagging along?
Cheng Xiang-yu sneered, "Brother Yuan is a bad person? What nonsense! He's my bodyguard—don't you think I know whether he's good or bad? Lin Feng is the real bastard! If I hadn't run fast, he would have forced himself on me. That's why I called Brother Yuan to get revenge for me! For your own safety, you should come with me to find Brother Yuan!"
Lin Feng said, "He Tian-tian, why bother talking to her? She doesn't believe a word you say. If she wants to go to him, let her go."
He Tian-tian hesitated but tried once more. "Miss, your Brother Yuan really isn't a good person. The injuries on my face and body are from him trying to force himself on me." She had been thinking that no matter what, Lin Feng was better than Yuan Shuang. If he really were as bad as Cheng Xiang-yu claimed, at least the two girls could look out for each other. More importantly, she noticed the expensive dress Cheng Xiang-yu was wearing and guessed she came from a wealthy background. If she could win her favor, it might lead to huge benefits once they were rescued and returned to Hai City.
But Cheng Xiang-yu wouldn't listen. Instead, she laughed mockingly, "Haha, you're hilarious. A plain-looking girl like you—how could Brother Yuan possibly be interested? I don't know what kind of spell Lin Feng cast on you to make you trust him so much! If you won't come with me, fine. You'll regret it when he starts bullying you later."
He Tian-tian was speechless. She had tried to give her good advice, and instead of listening, the girl had mocked her. Realizing that some people can only learn through experience, she stopped trying.
Seeing that He Tian-tian wouldn't follow her to find Yuan Shuang, and fearing what Lin Feng might do, Cheng Xiang-yu hurried off in the direction Yuan Shuang had gone. Lin Feng didn't have the time or energy to pursue her. The most important thing was surviving.
He looked at He Tian-tian and said, "The sun has set, and it'll be dark soon. Help me start a fire so we can make it through the night."
"Okay!" He Tian-tian responded obediently, bringing over some dry wood and grass.
Lin Feng couldn't help but think that He Tian-tian was far more useful than Cheng Xiang-yu. He asked, "Do you have any supplies on you?"
He Tian-tian shook her head. "I had some, but Qin Meng and I were in such a panic that we didn't bring anything."
Lin Feng had expected as much, so he just waved his hand dismissively. "It's fine."
He took out his mobile phone and smashed it hard against a tree, shattering it into pieces. He then removed the battery and placed it into the pile of dry grass he and He Tian-tian had prepared. Using a stick, he struck the battery with force.
*Boom!*
After two strikes, the battery exploded, sending up a flame. He Tian-tian jumped back in fright. Lin Feng, having expected this, just leaned back slightly. He remained calm and quickly added more dry grass and wood, successfully turning the spark into a small, steady fire.
He Tian-tian watched in awe. "Lin Feng, you're amazing! You knew how to use the battery to start a fire. I thought you were going to try rubbing sticks together."
At that moment, she stopped believing anything Cheng Xiang-yu had said. If Lin Feng were truly a predator, he wouldn't be doing these things; he would have attacked her long ago. She also realized that Lin Feng was far from the useless person she had imagined.
"He Tian-tian, stay here and tend to the fire. I'm going to go get us something to eat," Lin Feng said before turning to leave.
He Tian-tian called out, "Lin Feng, there might be wild animals in the woods. Don't go too far, be careful."
Lin Feng was surprised. He hadn't expected He Tian-tian, who had always looked down on him and called him useless, to be concerned for his safety. He smiled slightly. "Don't worry. I'm just going to collect some fish mint nearby. If anything happens here, make sure to call me."
"Okay!" she replied with a smile.
Lin Feng walked briskly to where the fish mint grew and dug some up. While doing so, he noticed the soil beneath was clay. Seeing that there was still a bit of daylight left, he dug up a large chunk of it. Carrying the clay in one hand and the fish mint in the other, he returned to the shelter.
