Chapter Forty-Seven: A Complete Loss of Face
Chapter Forty-Seven: Truly Losing All Dignity
Inside the Supreme Private Room, every pair of eyes was fixed on Shen An. The young man held the menu and glanced at it carelessly. He set the menu down on the table and looked at the waiter standing by.
“Double-headed abalone, one for each person.”
Zhang Wei raised his eyebrows; this guy really dared to order. Zhou Wang’s heart trembled as he watched the person opposite him, seeing that Shen An was not finished yet.
“Australian lobster.”
“Caviar.”
“Let’s have some sashimi as well.”
Shen An recited the names of each dish. Those present were quietly calculating in their minds. They all had the feeling that this kid must be insane. He wasn’t hosting, yet he was ordering so many expensive dishes; without several tens of thousands, it simply wouldn’t be enough.
Zhang Wei’s expression darkened with each dish Shen An named. Several times, he nearly stood up in anger, but Lu Jing beside him tugged at his sleeve and shook her head. Her actions annoyed Zhang Wei, but he managed to restrain himself.
“Very well, Shen An, it seems you live quite well, knowing how to order good food,” Zhang Wei forced the words through his clenched teeth.
“Not as well as you, Young Wei. I don’t usually get to eat these things. Since you’re treating us, if I don’t order something decent, I’d be letting myself down. Judging by your expression, you’re not short on cash, are you? If that’s the case, maybe I should leave and grab some street food instead,” Shen An said with a smile, even pulling out his chair as if to leave.
“Don’t!” Zhang Wei quickly raised his hand. “It’s just a bit of money. As long as you’re happy.”
He spoke through gritted teeth. Shen An hurriedly sat back down, feigning nervousness.
“That’s good. I thought you were short on money. Honestly, since you’re so wealthy, let’s order a few bottles of wine too.”
Some present wished they could curse him outright, but others enjoyed the spectacle. Usually, they couldn’t afford such delicacies; though Shen An was shameless, in the end, they’d still get to eat.
These dishes were not easily found.
“What’s this wine? Oh, French Louis XIV, red wine. Let’s have this, a few bottles. Are you all drinking?” Shen An looked around at the others.
Though some were eager to drink, seeing Zhang Wei’s face nearly dripping with gloom, they shook their heads.
“That’s enough, Shen An,” Zhou Wang sighed.
“All right, that’s it then.”
The waiter left, quite satisfied. Everyone in the room felt awkward.
After ordering, Shen An lounged in his chair, took out his phone, and casually played a game.
Soon, the dishes arrived. Some girls began to critique the pastries, chatting and laughing.
“This one’s what I ordered; try it,” Shen An put his phone away and began to eat.
He wasn’t used to using knife and fork, so he opted for chopsticks. They chatted about the past, discussed where they were now, and how things were going.
“Shen An, I heard you’re unemployed now. I’ve got some business in Silver City; want to come help me out?” a male classmate said with a smile.
“No, I’m pretty lazy,” Shen An rejected him outright.
Some girls tried to ease the awkwardness with a few words, but Shen An rebuffed them, leaving them visibly displeased.
“Forget it. Everyone has their own aspirations. Some people are content to idle their lives away; nothing wrong with that,” Zhang Wei said, coughing lightly.
At that moment, everyone knew the real drama was about to begin. They watched with curiosity.
Zhang Wei hadn’t organized this gathering just for dinner; he had an agenda, and everyone was waiting for this moment. Many suspected he was planning to humiliate Shen An.
“Shen An, I came back this time to reconcile with you. All these years, I know you were expelled because of me, and I’ve always felt uneasy. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be with Lu Jing. Of course, I know you still resent me,” he said, smiling.
“Everyone knows you’re a great fighter. Let’s have another match. If you win, we’ll call it even. If you lose, it’s nothing. I’ve reached this point in life and won’t demand anything. I just hope you’ll wish me and Lu Jing happiness. I know you like her. What do you say?” He looked at Shen An with a beaming smile.
Shen An pulled out a napkin and wiped his mouth.
“Oh, it’s about that? Your happiness with Lu Jing is none of my business,” Shen An suddenly looked at him, his eyes puzzled. “And why should I fight you? Are you out of your mind?”
Crack!
A sound of something breaking was heard.
Zhang Wei’s face turned ugly as he glared over.
“Shen An, weren’t you a great fighter back then? What’s the matter now, lost your nerve? Don’t worry, even if you beat me, I won’t hold it against you. With so many classmates here, do you think I’d go back on my word?” He spoke with a mocking tone.
Awakened, was he?
Shen An had already sensed the other’s strength. He found Zhang Wei’s behavior laughable. He’d thought Zhang Wei had some backing, but in the end, he was just a newcomer who’d recently awakened his powers.
Where did he get his courage—was it borrowed from Liang Jingru?
Shen An didn’t expose him.
He said calmly, “Fine, but if you lose, no cheating. There are plenty of witnesses. Zhou Wang, you heard him, right? Be my witness.”
Sweat broke out on Zhou Wang’s forehead. He thought, what’s it got to do with me? You two fight, that’s all.
“Fine, I’ll be your witness,” he replied, a bit impatiently.
They cleared the table; the room was spacious enough for them to move freely.
Lu Jing, seeing Shen An agree, sighed inwardly. All these years, he was still the same hot-tempered person. She felt disappointed. She’d hoped to see some change, but instead was met with this disheartening scene.
Quick to anger, fond of fighting, lacking in ambition; from the look of him, he had no connections after all these years. His classmates rarely mentioned him, and now they finally saw him, only to hear he was unemployed. The only job he’d ever had was as a bodyguard—a servant to others.
Thinking this, Lu Jing glanced at Zhang Wei beside her; the difference between them was vast.
Her choice back then had been right—not choosing Shen An.
Lu Jing thought to herself.
Zhang Wei took off his jacket, revealing a body full of muscle.
“I’ve been training these years,” he said.
Several girls nearby saw Zhang Wei’s physique and their eyes lit up. Such a body was certainly pleasing to the eye.
Shen An walked lazily to the opposite side.
“All right, make it quick. I’ve got things to do.”
“Hmph, you don’t even have a job. What business could you possibly have?” Zhang Wei sneered.
He looked at Shen An’s casual manner and found it amusing.
You’re just an ordinary mortal. My strength now far surpasses your imagination. This time, I’ll make you lose all face in front of your classmates, in front of Lu Jing, so you’ll never lift your head again.
A smug smile gradually spread across his face.
