Chapter Ninety-Six: Packed Off and Sent Away

“From Future Group? Which company? Which department?”

Shen An asked.

Qi the supervisor froze, and a bad feeling rose in his chest.

The man’s tone clearly showed he did not take him seriously at all. And earlier, the way he had spoken sounded exactly like a superior speaking to a subordinate.

“What makes you think I have to tell you? Who do you think you are?” Qi the supervisor said, feeling humiliated. He noticed Rou Rou standing off to the side watching.

“Never mind who I am. I want to know who you are. Where did you get the nerve? Some pop song gave it to you? So what if you work for Future Group? Does that make you special?”

“Give me an explanation for what happened today. If you don’t, I’ll strip you down myself.”

Shen An was not joking. He meant every word.

The other man was only an ordinary person, so he would not use any extreme methods.

“Who do you think you are?” Qi the supervisor could not possibly swallow the insult. As soon as he finished speaking, Rou Rou suddenly reached from behind and took his hand, which made him secretly delighted.

Shen An looked at them and gave a cold laugh. He took out his phone, snapped a picture of Qi the supervisor, then tapped the screen a few times and began making a call.

Qi the supervisor did not understand what he was doing.

“What are you taking my picture for? Watch it, or I’ll sue you.”

Shen An ignored that weak threat and answered the call.

“Hello. I just sent you the photo. Help me check whether this person is in the group, and if so, which company and which department.”

When Qi the supervisor heard this, his foot slipped, and his legs suddenly went weak.

He stared at Shen An in disbelief.

“No, that’s impossible. This kid must be bluffing.”

He did not have the authority to order people inside the group around, much less have them casually look up someone’s files.

Shen An did not hang up. He waited for the reply.

Before even a minute passed, the other side responded.

Listening to the answer, Shen An smiled.

“Qi Guanshu, supervisor at the Third Branch Company, in charge of human resources. Seven years at the job. Not easy.”

He said it with a smile.

Qi Guanshu’s face turned the color of liver in an instant. He looked at Shen An in terror.

“Fire this man. Yes, him. See whether he has arranged jobs for any relatives or friends. If he has, get rid of them too. If you’re short-handed, find Chu Dongwang. He’ll arrange it for you.”

With that, he ended the call.

Qi Guanshu stared at Shen An, his face stiff.

What Shen An had just said had been spoken right in front of him.

“You, you were joking with me just now, weren’t you?” His voice began to tremble.

“You can take it as a joke,” Shen An said calmly.

Yan Kai looked at him in disbelief. “Man, were you really kidding just now?”

As soon as he asked, Qi the supervisor’s phone rang.

Qi Guanshu looked at the caller ID. It was his boss. He hurriedly answered.

“Hello, Manager.”

“You’ve been fired. Get your things and leave immediately.”

The manager’s icy voice rang in his ear.

Beep, beep, beep.

Qi Guanshu was stunned. He slowly lifted his head, too shocked to believe it was real.

Then one call after another came in.

Friends. Relatives. Family.

“What did you do? You dragged us into this, and now we’ve been fired too.”

“You really made a fine mess of things.”

“Qi Guanshu, did you offend the boss? They’re all talking about you. What am I supposed to do now?”

Qi Guanshu shut off his phone, but his mind was still buzzing.

Then he suddenly looked up at Shen An, his eyes bloodshot.

“You’re... Mr. Shen?”

Shen An did not look at him again. Instead, he turned to Yan Kai.

“How about it, brother? I’m doing pretty well these days. Want to come work for me?”

He said it very gently.

“Sure. Then I won’t be polite.” Yan Kai knew this was not the time for formalities.

Besides, with their relationship, there was no need to be polite anyway.

His bond with Shen An was not quite as close as his with Sun Ming, but it had long since reached the point where they never stood on ceremony.

More than that, back then he had helped Shen An quite a lot, and had never asked for anything in return.

When Shen An heard him agree so readily, he felt very pleased.

Just then, after they had paid the bill, a car pulled up nearby.

Mu Linqiu got out and walked over.

“Take Chu Yixi home first,” Shen An said.

Mu Linqiu nodded. Shen An said goodbye to Chu Yixi and watched as the two of them drove away.

Only then did Rou Rou wake up from her daze.

She stared at the elegant woman who had stepped out of that luxurious Bentley. When she saw Chu Yixi, her heart nearly stopped from excitement.

Then she suddenly remembered the man who had been with Chu Yixi.

And that man was the brother of her own boyfriend.

Just as Shen An and Yan Kai were about to leave with their arms around each other’s shoulders, Rou Rou suddenly rushed over.

“Yan Kai, you can’t go. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have hesitated just now. I love you. Please believe me.”

She pointed at Qi the supervisor, who was still sitting on the ground in a daze. “He said he’d give me thirty thousand a month, and that’s why I agreed. It was all because of him. Please, don’t leave me.”

Shen An saw that Yan Kai still had not spoken. He fixed his gaze on her, and a trace of killing intent rose in his eyes.

“Get lost.”

Rou Rou was so frightened that she quickly let go.

For that brief moment, she had felt death closing in. It was as if if she did not release him, he really would kill her.

She looked at Qi Guanshu. His lips were muttering over and over, “He’s the boss of Future Group. I’m finished. He’s the boss of Future Group.”

Only then did Rou Rou finally understand.

At that moment, it was truly over for him.

Yan Kai never looked at her again. He turned and left with Shen An.

The two of them arrived at a residential complex.

“All right, this is my place. It’s not much, but it’ll do. Two thousand a month for rent. Ah, life’s hard.”

Shen An had simply wanted to see how he was living now.

Actually, by any measure, Yan Kai was doing fairly decently.

Half a month ago, Shen An himself had barely been any better than Yan Kai.

Of course, that was mostly because he had been eating and drinking off Sun Ming all the time.

“How’s that kid Sun Ming doing?” Yan Kai asked, knowing Shen An had stayed in touch with him all along.

Shen An shook his head. “I haven’t seen him in a long time. No idea where he’s gone.”

He only knew that after Sun Ming made that phone call, he had never contacted him again.

“That kid’s like a cockroach. No matter where he lands, he’ll do just fine,” Yan Kai said.

“True.”

The two of them chatted about old times, and Shen An told him to come work at Future Group.

Right now, he was desperately short of people, and Yan Kai was one of his own.

When he learned that Shen An was now the helm of Future Group, Yan Kai stood there in shock for a long time before he finally reacted.

And then Shen An told him about his awakening.

That surprised him even more, and he could not help feeling deeply envious.

After returning to the company, Shen An instructed Mu Linqiu to arrange a job for him.

He also found him a place in a high-end residential area nearby.

After handling his personal matters, Shen An checked the time. It was already eight at night.

He called together Du She, Jiang Meng, and the others.

At the Sun residence, the Sun family patriarch, Sun Qidao, was holding a meeting.

“All experts outside are to return. Branch families, direct descendants—no matter what you are doing right now, if you are an awakener, everyone is to come back.”

They all knew this matter was no small one.

When they heard the patriarch’s orders, they all hurried off to prepare.
