Chapter Seventy-Six: The Incident Ferments

Shen An paid no attention to the others and strode forward. “I’m her employer, I can save him.” As he spoke, Shen An had already reached the operating table where Jiang Meng lay.

“Young man, you’ve got some nerve. Whose intern are you? Get out of here,” one of the doctors snapped. None of them believed Shen An could save Jiang Meng, nor did they believe he was the boss.

Shen An placed his hand on Jiang Meng’s chest.

“Hey, are you trying to cause trouble? Do you have any idea what you’re doing?” Another doctor, startled by Shen An’s actions, grabbed his collar. If anything happened to the patient, they would be held responsible.

“Out!” Shen An uttered a single word without even looking at him. Instantly, the doctor fell back onto the floor as if struck by an invisible force.

Shen An hadn’t used any power, only the authority in his voice, overwhelming everyone present.

The room fell utterly silent.

Shen An pressed one hand to Jiang Meng’s chest. The blood on Jiang Meng’s body had already been cleaned away, but in Shen An’s eyes, the strange energy clustered around Jiang Meng’s heart was glaringly obvious.

Had the enemy deliberately spared Jiang Meng, or had the energy gone astray?

Logically, the assailant shouldn’t care whether Jiang Meng lived or died. Jiang Meng had already awakened; his cultivation was advancing by leaps and bounds, and he would become a threat in the future.

But then…

“Was it an accident, or something else?” Shen An pondered as the sinister energy within Jiang Meng rapidly dissipated, crushed by Shen An’s own dominating energy.

He examined Jiang Meng’s injuries once more. Seeing nothing else life-threatening, he used his energy to heal the remaining wounds.

The doctors watched Shen An, unaware that he had already treated Jiang Meng.

“You punk, do you know who I am?” the doctor who had fallen to the floor said, feeling humiliated. The others began to scold Shen An as well; some even tried to shove him out.

Shen An, assured that Jiang Meng was out of danger, ignored them and left without another word.

A group of doctors exchanged bewildered glances, not knowing what to think.

Only after Shen An had left did they come to their senses. Suddenly, an assistant noticed something odd—the wounds had vanished, and Jiang Meng was showing signs of waking up.

“Look! That thing inside him is gone!”

They crowded around, their faces registering utter shock. This was a miracle in the medical world. Who was this young man?

At that moment, the television was broadcasting breaking news.

“Rockslide Hero Revealed as an Awakened One.”

“The world is changing—now more than ever, we need heroes.”

“The attacker has been killed.”

Below, there was footage of the scene.

The camera captured Shen An’s face—strong features, deep-set eyes, an unmistakable presence that humbled others at a glance. He was looking straight ahead, his gaze encompassing all things. To meet those eyes was to be drawn in, unable to look away.

The Phoenix Mountain incident was fermenting, drawing the attention of countless people.

A hero—an awakened one who stepped forward to help ordinary people in a moment of crisis.

This world had changed. There were those who disregarded human life, but there were also those who lent a helping hand.

The reporter explained that the rockslide was no accident—it was man-made, caused by two other individuals. The hero, upon their arrival, had already left to pursue the criminals.

As the news spread, many began to worry about him.

Online, people were abuzz.

“What happened to him?”

“The criminals cared nothing for human life. He chased after them alone. They’re all awakened—will he win?”

Some were anxious, others full of confidence in Shen An.

“He’ll be fine. We believe he’ll return safely.”

Then, an official statement confirmed: The two criminals had been subdued—both vicious criminals, brought down by him.

With this news, many breathed a sigh of relief.

“Boss.”

As Shen An stepped outside, Viper immediately moved to his side.

Shen An patted him on the shoulder. He had never doubted Viper’s loyalty. Ever since the factory fire, Viper had fulfilled every one of Shen An’s requests twice over, never questioning the reasons. Whatever Shen An asked, Viper did his best to accomplish.

“Stay here and watch over him. I’m going to check on the company.”

Viper nodded. He was well aware of his boss’s abilities.

As he walked toward the hospital exit, Shen An made a phone call.

It was quickly answered.

“Find out where Liu Jin is.”

Liu Jin was now acting head of Future Group. Shen An had been gone only two days, and already Liu Jin had taken over. If there weren’t insiders helping him, Shen An would never believe it.

There were still those hidden agents embedded within the group.

He had been watching all along, but now he realized he’d been too soft-hearted.

Still, he couldn’t be blamed—if he rooted them all out at once, the company might not function, and he’d have no one suitable to fill the roles.

“Liu Jin is at the branch office,” Bai Weiwei replied, evidently aware of Shen An’s intentions. She had already been keeping an eye on the situation and immediately provided the answer.

Having gotten the information, Shen An placed another call, this time to Chu Dongwang.

When they’d last met, they’d talked for a long time in private, followed by a discreet phone call. No one else knew about this.

“Boss Shen, I was waiting for your call,” Chu Dongwang’s deep voice sounded with a laugh.

“So, you expected this,” Shen An replied.

“There are many who know about this, and plenty who see through it. Boss Shen, I’ve done everything you asked—two hundred recruits, trained as of yesterday. Whenever you need them, just call me.”

He chuckled.

“Good. Once this is settled, let me treat you and Yuxi to dinner.”

“Oh, no need. You young people should have dinner together. Yuxi’s been cooped up at home; she ought to get out now and then,” Chu Dongwang laughed, politely declining.

“Alright, it’s settled then. I have things to handle—goodbye, Boss Chu.”

Shen An knew exactly what Chu Dongwang was up to, but with a common enemy, he didn’t mind. He did have feelings for Chu Yuxi, but not to any serious extent yet.

Chu Dongwang was clearly trying to matchmake.

Still, Chu Dongwang had been a great help this time; future cooperation was only wise. Shen An knew he could trust him.

He shook his head, not wanting to dwell on it.

“I don’t know…”

“Who is this Liu Jin? He seems to be the boss. What should we do—will we all be fired?”

A few new hires whispered anxiously in the staff lounge. They had only been working a few days, not even past probation, and already such a massive event had occurred.
