Chapter Ninety-Five: A Meeting with an Old Friend

Just now, when he came back from the restroom, Yan Kai had even seen the other man leaning close to his girlfriend’s ear, whispering into it. He had seen it all with his own eyes.

But he knew his girlfriend’s temperament.

Out of sight, out of mind. All he could do was coax her into a better mood as quickly as possible, get her to say a few good words for the manager, and then leave. He did not want any further contact after this.

“Eating this junk, huh? Fine. Since you showed plenty of sincerity today, I’ll let it go.”

The Future Group supervisor ordered the food with a dissatisfied look on his face, not caring about the price at all.

Yan Kai, anxious and deferential, ordered a few bottles of beer and poured the man a glass.

“Supervisor Qi, I’m sorry. This round of hosting wasn’t done properly.”

There was nothing else he could do. Since dating this woman, his salary had become less and less enough to spend. The barbecue itself had been his girlfriend’s suggestion.

“Don’t say that. Thanks to Rou Rou, really. If she hadn’t spoken up for you, I wouldn’t be bothering with you at all,” Supervisor Qi said, glancing at Rou Rou, who smiled back.

That made Yan Kai feel deeply awkward.

On the other side, Chu Yixi was eating barbecue while looking at Shen An, curious what he was watching.

“You know them?”

Chu Yixi asked curiously.

She had noticed Shen An staring at them for quite some time, always glancing over whenever they appeared.

“A friend,” Shen An said without hiding it.

“Then do you want to go say hello?” She was still rather curious about Shen An’s friend. She wondered what kind of people he had associated with in the past.

“Let’s watch a little longer. No rush,” Shen An said.

He could tell that Yan Kai was not doing well these days, and from the way he looked, he seemed to be asking for a favor. So he did not immediately go over to acknowledge him.

Besides, Yan Kai’s attention had been fixed on Rou Rou and Supervisor Qi the whole time, so he had not noticed Shen An sitting at the nearby table at all. In about twenty seconds, the bottle was empty.

Yan Kai set the bottle down, his face flushed red, and saw the other man only take a small sip.

“Oh, right, Rou Rou. I heard you’re working at a clothing store now, and you only make so much a month. Why not come work for me instead? Sales, maybe thirty to forty thousand a month, at the very least.”

Rou Rou’s eyes lit up. “Really? That would be wonderful.”

Yan Kai, just after finishing his drink, looked terrible. “Rou Rou has no experience. Wouldn’t it be troublesome for Supervisor Qi if she went there?”

Originally, this had been only a matter of asking the other man to say a few good words for him. Who would have thought that now the other man was arranging a job for Rou Rou?

Yan Kai assumed he was joking and said that casually.

As soon as he finished speaking, Rou Rou objected. “Why not? I think Brother Qi is right. The pay where I am is not only very low, I’m worked to death. Brother Qi, when can I start work?”

“Heh. If you want to start, you can begin tomorrow.”

The two of them chatted happily.

Yan Kai’s face, on the side, grew uglier and uglier.

“Come with me. I’m taking her away.”

“On what grounds?”

“I’m her boyfriend. On what grounds do you think?”

“But she just told me she doesn’t have a boyfriend. You’re only ordinary friends, aren’t you, Rou Rou?”

At that moment, Yan Kai glared at her in fury, and his face turned even worse as he looked over at Rou Rou.

“Supervisor Qi, go to hell.”

At that moment he could not care about anything else.

He only wanted to kill this bastard, and at the same time, the little bit of feeling he had left for his girlfriend vanished without a trace.

What replaced it was endless humiliation and rage.

He regretted ever falling for such a woman. He never would have imagined that this Supervisor Qi in front of him was cut from the same cloth. No wonder they had seemed so intimate the very first time they met.

Supervisor Qi glared at him viciously.

“Tired of living, are you? You still want to hit someone?”

He stepped forward. Rou Rou had said nothing the entire time. Though she looked somewhat tense, her gaze had remained fixed on the other man the whole time; she had only glanced at Yan Kai once before looking away again.

Supervisor Qi grabbed a stool and hurled it.

Yan Kai hurriedly raised his hands to block it.

Suddenly, a figure appeared ahead. That person reached out and caught the stool, then casually set it on the ground. He extended a hand and held it out before Yan Kai.

Only then did everyone realize that this was the man from the couple sitting nearby, the one who had been quietly eating barbecue all this time.

From appearance to bearing, these two were nothing like ordinary people.

Yan Kai stared at the man holding out his hand and froze for a moment, his eyes growing a little red.

From the instant he stepped in, Yan Kai had recognized him.

“What, old friends don’t deserve a little less distance?”

Shen An said with a smile.

Yan Kai reached out, and Shen An pulled him to his feet.

“I saw everything.”

Shen An stepped forward, but Yan Kai held him back. Shen An shook his head.

However, from the way Shen An looked now, it seemed he was doing quite well.

“Before meddling, brother, did you ever bother to ask around about our Future Group?” he said, hoping Shen An would know when to back off.
