Chapter 104: The Frustrated Boss Wang
Still, it was Lengxue driving the car with Qianyin in the passenger seat, while the four little ones were driven by Donglai. They set off directly, heading toward Ximen City.
The members of the Mo family came out early in the morning to see them off. Although Old Master Mo's attitude remained somewhat unfriendly, it didn't stop them from leaving. Each farewell was much the same: "Be careful on the road, take care in all things." Qianyin's ears had grown numb from hearing the same advice over and over, but she nodded to all, and thus their journey began.
On this straight road, they noticed many cars heading toward Ximen City as well. Could there be a lot of assassins in the area, always lurking in the city? Yet they had never seen any before. Still, these people seemed to follow the rules—no one ran red lights, and they all formed a straight line with Qianyin's car.
Suddenly, a car flashed its lights and pulled up beside Qianyin's window, keeping pace. The driver seemed to focus on the road, ignoring the temptation to indulge in arrogance.
"I knew you'd come," he said.
"You're really bold. Aren't you afraid the boss will come after you?" Qianyin glanced at Han. Had he calculated their departure time so precisely? He was already here, chatting at her window and even blocking the lane.
Hearing his voice, Lengxue glanced back at Han, clearly impatient. Why did this man keep haunting them? Even if Han hadn't offended him, he still liked Qianyin—making him a rival in love.
"Hey, you're blocking the road," Lengxue couldn't help but remind him, hoping he'd move away from Qianyin's window. Because the two cars were driving side by side, the cars behind had to keep the same formation, creating an impressive caravan that, oddly enough, didn't seem out of place.
Han pretended not to hear and said nothing, driving quietly by himself. He hadn't asked the boss for permission, nor did he care what the boss thought.
Lengxue couldn't get out to teach Han a lesson, so he had to grit his teeth and keep driving, pretending not to see him. He treated Han like thin air—annoying, perhaps, but not enough to stop him from driving.
The road was peaceful; no one drove the wrong way or tried to overtake. The only problem was the long hours behind the wheel. Lengxue grew weary, and Qianyin refrained from talking further with Han, afraid the jealous man beside her would take offense.
Elsewhere, Mo Lan sensed something was wrong and went out early to find An Feng. An Feng looked at Mo Lan in confusion; why had Qianyin and the others left so suddenly? Was it assassin business?
"Any thoughts?" An Feng asked, getting into the car.
Mo Lan got in too, sighing, "I don't know what to do. There are things going on at the precinct, and we can't get away."
An Feng drove straight back to the police station, not wanting to say more until internal matters were settled. There had been some small issues lately, and it was unclear whose handiwork it was.
As soon as they walked in, they saw Boss Wang and Xiao Qi quarreling. Both were red-faced and shouting like squabbling children, with Liu Fei and the others watching the show, not bothering to intervene.
Did they have nothing better to do?
An Feng coughed a few times before Liu Fei finally took it seriously and moved to stop them.
"You ungrateful wretch! It's already generous not to lock you up, and you're still making a scene," Xiao Qi yelled, ignoring An Feng's arrival. She rolled up her sleeves, ready for a fight.
Liu Fei grabbed Xiao Qi by the collar and dragged her back to her seat, eliciting a squeal of protest.
"What are you doing?" Xiao Qi shot up again, glaring angrily at Liu Fei.
Liu Fei remained silent, acting as if it were all for her own good.
"Boss Wang, I heard you were the mastermind behind the suspicious vehicle. Why aren't you locked up?" Mo Lan ignored the others, stepping forward to mock Boss Wang. The incident with the snake venom powder was not something she planned to let go. Some men only learn the hard way why others pity them.
Boss Wang, annoyed, turned away and sat down, saying nothing. He was waiting for someone to pick him up and take him back to Nanjing. This lot at the police station was too much.
Mo Lan found it odd. Was Boss Wang upset by what happened at the auction? Did he not want to see her, or was he simply afraid to cross her because of Boss Jin?
Liu Fei, seeing Mo Lan’s confusion, pulled her aside and explained everything from the beginning. Mo Lan nodded as she listened, then burst out laughing.
So those people weren’t Boss Wang’s after all—he had been set up, which explained his anger. But this matter required both An Feng and Mo Lan to handle.
Mo Lan laughed even harder. Those people had some nerve—throwing blame around, even implicating Boss Huang. Did they have a grudge against Boss Wang, or were they deliberately tarnishing his name?
Yet the matter didn’t seem so simple. If those people weren’t Boss Wang’s, then whose were they?
Mo Lan's laughter drew everyone’s attention. Boss Wang glared at her as if he might swallow her whole, so she finally calmed down and stopped laughing.
An Feng's eyes were gentle as he glanced at the others, who promptly ducked their heads and returned to work as if nothing had happened.
"Then interrogate those people properly, apologize to Boss Wang, and arrange for someone to send him back," Mo Lan instructed Liu Fei after another look at Boss Wang. Since he wasn’t responsible, it was only right to apologize and send him home.
"He's not a good person anyway—why should we send him back?" Xiao Qi protested, ready to step forward and beat Boss Wang again.
Mo Lan and An Feng exchanged glances, puzzled by the enmity. What had happened to make Xiao Qi so angry?
"Xiao Qi, the chief wants you," someone called from outside. Xiao Qi threw Boss Wang a resentful look before stomping out.
Mo Lan and An Feng looked at Liu Fei, hoping for an explanation. Liu Fei only shook his head—how could he know? When that woman was in a mood, anything was possible.
Liu Fei was left to deal with Boss Wang. He offered to take him home, and Boss Wang accepted without protest, getting into Liu Fei’s car for the ride back to Nanjing.
Mo Lan and An Feng shook their heads helplessly, then sat down to review recent files or go out on patrol.
Suddenly, Mo Lan’s phone rang energetically. She hurried to answer, not wanting to disturb the others. It was Mo Fan.
"Big sister, something serious has happened. Several of the Mo family’s restaurants have had cases of people eating the wrong thing. They were fine at the restaurant, but after going home, they came back to report problems. Someone has even died. Now a huge crowd has gathered at our house," Mo Fan said urgently, the noise of chaos clear in the background.
