Chapter One Hundred and Ten: A Somber Atmosphere
Han pressed his lips together tightly as he looked at this assassin queen who felt like someone he was meeting for the first time, and his heart throbbed with restless pain. He felt deeply sorry for Qinyin as she was now, yet he also longed for the coldness she had once possessed.
How carefree she had been before. As long as she killed and finished her assignments, every day of her life was bright.
Boss and Coldblood rode in one car, while Han and Qinyin rode in another, with a driver in front. Because Qinyin had fainted, they had not blindfolded her.
“Dead? Then say something,” Qinyin shouted furiously.
No matter how hard she tried to force herself to endure it, that pain in her heart would not disappear. That man was dead, dead before her eyes. Han and Boss had killed him. Those people had killed him.
Han reached out and pulled Qinyin into his arms. She struggled in anger, pounding at him with all her strength, but he would not let go. No matter how much it hurt, Han refused to release her. He knew that if he let go now, Qinyin might hate him for the rest of her life.
Qinyin kept striking him until her own hands ached with pain. A thin line of blood slipped from the corner of Han’s mouth, yet he still would not let go. At last, Qinyin stopped hitting him.
In those eyes that were on the verge of losing their stars, there was only hollowness and grief. Tears slid down one after another and fell onto the car seat.
Coldblood’s heart ached as he wiped away Qinyin’s tears. The assassin driving in front said nothing, only feeling that matters of love were far too cruel to witness.
“Where are you taking us, Boss? Is Qinyin all right?” Coldblood knew Boss was in the same car, so he did not bother with small talk and went straight to the point.
He hoped Boss would let Qinyin go and let him take her place if anything had to be done. He no longer wanted Qinyin to continue living that life of bloodshed and slaughter. Sometimes, in his dreams, he would see her covered in blood, and it made his heart ache unbearably.
When the six who returned to the Mo household had not yet fully recovered their composure, the Mo family saw at once that something was wrong. One by one, they rushed forward and asked, “Where are Coldblood and Qinyin?”
Mo Lan was in utter disarray. She walked straight back to her room alone, her retreating figure so lonely that it made people want to protect her.
The four little ones stood nearby, choking back sobs and lowering their heads, not saying a word. Anyone could see their shoulders trembling. They did not look like brave men at all, but rather like injured children.
“Qinyin was taken by Boss. Coldblood sacrificed himself,” An Feng said after glancing at the four of them and then at all the expectant faces around him. He was reluctant, but in the end he still forced out those cruel words.
“What?”
Everyone spoke at once. Shock flashed across every face, then gave way to sorrow and reluctance.
Elder Xian’s hands trembled so badly that he had to brace himself against the table. Those two had been among his favorites. How could things have turned out like this? Hadn’t they said they would only be gone for a few days?
“Don’t be sad. We still have to find a way to rescue Qinyin, or Coldblood will not rest in peace,” An Feng said. He understood everyone’s pain, but at such a critical moment, they absolutely could not sink into despair. Though he knew his words made him seem cold, there was nothing else he could do. If they could not stay strong, then he alone had to hold the line.
After saying that, An Feng was about to go knock on Mo Lan’s door, but no matter how many times he knocked, there was no answer. In the end, he decided it was better to join forces with the police bureau. If they did not cooperate now, their numbers were too thin; they would be defeated one by one sooner or later.
Once An Feng decided on something, he acted at the fastest speed possible. He no longer paid attention to the grief-stricken people behind him. Turning around, he got into the car and drove to the police bureau.
He had to report everything to the chief as soon as possible, get people mobilized to find Boss’s location, and rescue Qinyin as quickly as he could.
Everyone still left in the hall had tears quietly gathering at the corners of their eyes. Even Mo Fan and Old Master Mo felt the sting of sorrow, after all the joy those two had brought while they were with them. Qinyin had been Mo Lan’s favorite close friend; if anything had happened to her too, Mo Lan would probably spend her whole life in grief.
After returning to her room, Mo Lan hugged the pillow Qinyin had slept on, letting tears strike it one drop at a time. She had held back for so long. She knew she could not cry, could not be so fragile, but she simply could not control her emotions.
That wooden fool Coldblood had finally won Qinyin’s heart. Why had he not protected her for a lifetime? Why did he have to leave first?
Why had Boss appeared here? Why had he destroyed the peace of all these people? Why had he harmed the people living here? Was he really so ruthless that he would destroy the world for the sake of his own selfish desires?
An Feng drove at tremendous speed and soon arrived at the police bureau. The officers there were already preparing to leave work. Seeing An Feng rush in in such a panic, they stood at the entrance in confusion for a moment, and when no one came out, they eventually left.
Little Seven, Liu Fei, and the chief were inside watching a video and discussing official business when An Feng burst straight through the door without even knocking, startling all three of them. But when they saw it was An Feng, none of them said anything.
“I have something to report. It’s very important,” An Feng said, also aware that he had lost his composure. But the situation was urgent beyond measure, and he could not concern himself with manners.
“The mastermind behind the masked group is called Boss. The temple on West Road was the base they planned to use as their hideout. We have already clashed with them twice. Qinyin has been taken, and Coldblood has sacrificed himself. I need you to send people to help me find Boss’s base. We have to save her.”
Though An Feng spoke rapidly, his enunciation was very clear, clear enough for the three of them to understand exactly what he was saying.
When they heard this, all three of them froze. None of them had expected him to come back to say such a thing. The chief’s heart was beating especially hard. Just where had such a formidable group come from?
Little Seven and Liu Fei both felt regret over Coldblood’s death, but they had different opinions about Qinyin being captured. Little Seven felt that woman was wicked and deserved to be taught a lesson. Liu Fei was more concerned that with Qinyin captured, Mo Lan’s mood would surely be terrible. Should he go comfort her?
“Why didn’t you report this sooner?” the chief said angrily, glaring at An Feng. He felt that An Feng had been far too rash. Faced with such a terrifying enemy, why had he not told them and instead taken Mo Lan and the others to deal with it himself? If the two of them had died, how was he supposed to answer to his superiors?
An Feng lowered his head and said nothing. He knew this would be the result. They had concealed it before for the sake of the police bureau; now that they had revealed it, it was for Mo Lan’s sake. No matter how they reacted, whatever punishment they wished to impose, he was willing to accept it.
Seeing An Feng’s attitude, the chief understood that he did not want to say more. After thinking for a moment, he said, “Tomorrow I’ll inform all officers to begin the search at once. For now, stay in the police bureau. Do not go out carelessly.”
Little Seven and Liu Fei looked at the chief in surprise. Why should An Feng stay in the police bureau to protect his safety? Shouldn’t he be leading people out to search?
An Feng also frowned. He understood what the chief meant. He was trying to protect him from being punished by those above. After all, it took a great deal of time to cultivate a detective of his caliber.
