Chapter One Hundred and Nine: West Gate City, Part Three

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2376 words 2026-04-01 06:56:13

What had fallen was not Cold Blood after all, but someone else; yet that person had slammed the four-leaf clover badge from Cold Blood’s body to the ground. Dropping from such a height, the man was covered in blood, so mangled that no one could make out his features. Even so, his build was very much like Cold Blood’s. His clothes and bearing were almost identical as well, and with his body ruined by the fall, he could not be recognized.

The four little ones and Han heard the crash and rushed over at once. When they found the clover, all of them froze. Clutching the shattered badge tightly, the four children sat dazed on the ground. They had seen this thing more than once before. Sister Qianyin, Sister Molan, Anfeng, and Cold Blood all wore one.

When Han saw “Cold Blood” fall, his first thought was for Qianyin’s safety, and he immediately charged upstairs. The boss had clearly promised him—why was he trying to kill them?

Seeing Qianyin collapse, Cold Blood was subdued just like that. The boss watched the result with satisfaction. He could spare one of these two and keep the other. The others felt this method despicable, but they accepted the outcome.

With a wave of the boss’s hand, everyone went downstairs, preparing to take the two of them back to the base. It was no longer possible to remain in West Gate City. Qianyin was carried down in the arms of an assassin.

Han rushed up just in time to see them coming down and also saw that Cold Blood was not dead, while Qianyin had fainted. He immediately stepped forward, glaring angrily at the assassin and holding out his hands to indicate that he would carry Qianyin himself. The assassin understood and promptly placed Qianyin into his arms.

Han held her carefully and did not go down at once. Instead, he said, “Those four little guys are still below.”

The boss thought this was hardly a problem. As long as those three thousand people were lined up in a convoy and mingled among them, no one would notice. He shook his head, signaling for things to continue.

Sure enough, the four children picked up the shattered clover pieces, carried the body away, and took it to the hospital. They had no time to notice the three thousand people, nor any time to worry about Qianyin’s safety.

Han watched those four confused fools carry what they thought was another man’s corpse to the hospital and did not bother to correct them. After all, if Qianyin could really stay beside the boss, that was also the result he wanted.

The boss, seeing Han like this, understood that Han cared only for Qianyin. Once he knew what Han wanted, it would be much easier to control him. Next came the proper arrangement of those people.

In this way, more than three thousand people were split up and scattered across several cities, with guards left behind at every place the boss had visited to watch over his companies. The boss took Qianyin and Cold Blood and prepared to return to their base.

At the same time, Anfeng and Molan, who had driven over, felt an ominous premonition. Sure enough, they soon received a call from Little North. The moment they saw that it was Little North calling, both of their hearts gave a hard thump.

“Sister Molan, something happened to Sister Qianyin. She was taken away by the boss’s men, and Brother Cold Blood also lost his life. He fell from a very high rooftop. Even the clover was shattered to pieces. We’re at the city hospital in West Gate City now. Come pick us up. Let’s give Brother Cold Blood a proper burial together.”

Little North was sobbing as he spoke. He had truly never expected this. He had disliked Cold Blood quite a bit at first, hadn’t he? Yet after seeing him lose his life, his heart had actually hurt. Perhaps it was because he felt pain for Sister Qianyin.

When Molan heard those words, her phone slipped from her hand and slammed against the car. Anfeng frowned, unable to understand why she looked so stricken, as though she had been terrified.

Molan sat there stunned. She had never imagined that such a thing would happen, never imagined that Cold Blood would lose his life. How had it come to this?

On the other end, hearing the sound of the phone drop, Little North understood that Molan was overwhelmed, and had no choice but to repeat himself.

Anfeng picked up the phone and brought it to his ear. Just then he heard those words too. He was equally stunned, his emotions in chaos. Forcing himself to calm down, he said evenly, “All right. Wait for us there. We’ll be right over.”

After hanging up, Anfeng immediately sped up the car and headed straight for the hospital. Though he was not very familiar with the roads here, they had a clear destination, so it was easy enough to find the way.

What should have taken half an hour to reach the city hospital was cut down by Anfeng to just over ten minutes. During those ten minutes, Molan still could not accept the news that Qianyin had been taken and Cold Blood had died. In her mind, there was only one question: did Qianyin know that Cold Blood was dead?

When they arrived at the city hospital, they saw a body lying on a sheet in the road, a blood-soaked figure, and the four children with tear-streaked faces. Though Molan was also heartbroken, she quickly recovered and stepped forward to embrace the four children, comforting them. “Don’t worry. We’ll rescue Sister Qianyin for sure.”

The four little ones said nothing and did not cry again, but something within them was still gnawing away at their hearts, bite after bite.

Anfeng stepped forward and carefully examined the clover, confirming that it belonged to Cold Blood. His heart ached terribly. After knowing him for so long, he had already come to regard Cold Blood as a brother. To think he had died just like that.

The six of them did not remain immersed in grief for long. Instead, they immediately handled the funeral. They still had to find Qianyin. If Qianyin died as well, then they would truly have lost the two people they loved.

The police had also gotten involved, so the body was taken away for examination and then returned for the funeral to be arranged. They checked the roads and even investigated that rooftop, but found no one at all. Thus the matter came to a halt.

After finishing the funeral here, Anfeng and the others worked alongside the police to investigate the incident. Only then did they realize that those people seemed to have vanished into thin air, impossible to find no matter how they searched. So the six of them prepared to return to the Mo family estate. There was no one there now to guard it, and they feared that tragedy might strike again.

They had already lost one Cold Blood, and if more of their family in the city were to be harmed, they truly could not bear the consequences.

They hurried back to the Mo estate. Along the way they encountered several black cars, but because everything appeared ordinary and proper, they did not notice that the people inside were in fact the boss’s group.

The boss and the others covered Cold Blood’s eyes so he would not see where they were taking him. But he could still hear the flow of vehicles passing outside, and he knew they were in the midst of a transfer.

Cold Blood’s heart was in turmoil as well. That person had simply fallen like that, and Qianyin had thought it was him. If they told Qianyin that he was dead, would she be devastated? Would she no longer want to live either?

Qianyin had already slowly awakened. Finding herself still in Han’s arms, she angrily pushed him away, then looked at him with a cold gaze like that of a messenger from hell.

“Where are you taking me? Are you planning to imprison me and force me to work for you?” Qianyin’s voice was ice-cold, without the slightest trace of feeling, as though the stars within her had been fading away bit by bit.
