Chapter Seventy-One: Misunderstanding (Part Two)
Qianyin was rather displeased with the sudden appearance of these two individuals. In truth, the effects of the alcohol had yet to wear off; her mind remained muddled and chaotic. Yet, as the foremost figure in the world of assassins, it was her duty to concern herself with such matters.
Lengxue sensed that things were taking a turn for the worse—was this all a trap devised by that person? The two masked figures hardly seemed trustworthy. He recognized Liu Fei and Little Seven; weren’t they Mo Lan’s teammates?
“Don’t move. Hand over what you’re holding, or I’ll shoot,” Little Seven shouted immediately. She owed Qianyin nothing and saw no reason to be polite.
Liu Fei, however, refrained from such hostility. He was well aware of the relationship between Qianyin and Mo Lan, and he simply watched the two in silence.
Mo Lan and An Feng, arriving just in time to witness the scene, were utterly at a loss, unsure whom to trust. Mo Lan, for her part, had every reason to believe in Qianyin, but she couldn’t so easily dismiss Liu Fei’s words either.
Without hesitation, Lengxue snatched the object from Qianyin’s grasp and examined it, intending to toss it aside. Whatever it was, it couldn’t be anything good—certainly nothing that should fall into Qianyin’s hands.
“Didn’t you hear me tell you to put that down?” Little Seven barked again, leveling her gun at Lengxue. The object was of great importance to them.
The two masked men remained kneeling, silent and expressionless, their faces entirely obscured. They watched this drama unfold with unwavering composure.
With no other choice, Mo Lan rushed forward. “Little Seven, don’t be so agitated.”
Upon seeing Mo Lan and An Feng, Liu Fei and Little Seven’s faces lit up with excitement. Even so, Little Seven hesitated, mindful of the close bond between Qianyin and Mo Lan.
“Captains, stay out of this. Let us handle it,” Little Seven said bluntly, refusing to let them intervene.
“What on earth is going on?” An Feng finally asked. The four of them were supposed to be comrades, united by trust and common cause.
“Those two masked men stole the seal, and they addressed Qianyin as ‘my lady.’ Isn’t that enough to tell you what’s happening?” Little Seven reminded Mo Lan of the seal’s importance.
“She’s right, Captain Mo Lan. The masked ones are responsible for many deaths in the Mo family,” Liu Fei added bitterly, unable to forget the tragedy.
It was only then that Qianyin and Lengxue understood the depth of the others’ hostility. Exchanging a glance, they handed the seal to Mo Lan and quietly retreated, leaving the matter of the masked men to be dealt with by the others.
Mo Lan examined the seal—it was an official seal from the police bureau, used specifically for exiling criminals. No wonder Liu Fei and Little Seven had been so intent on pursuing it from dawn. Still, Qianyin had no use for such a thing. Was there some misunderstanding at play?
“Can you explain what happened?” Mo Lan asked Qianyin, hoping she would clarify the situation.
Qianyin’s mind churned with confusion. Did Mo Lan not trust her?
“I don’t know them. I only came because I received information. As for why they call me ‘my lady,’ I have no idea. Handle things however you see fit,” Qianyin replied stubbornly. She saw no fault in herself and resented being interrogated so.
“And who would believe that?” Little Seven snapped, advancing with a shout. “Refuse to explain, and you can tell it to the police.”
Qianyin’s expression darkened; this woman clearly hadn’t been taught a lesson. Was she looking for a beating so early in the morning?
“Don’t bother me unless you have proof. If you want to take me in, you’d best consider whether you have the right,” Qianyin retorted, her temper flaring.
Lengxue, for his part, found his companion’s defiance rather endearing. Let her stir up trouble—he would take responsibility for whatever happened.
Mo Lan and An Feng both frowned. What was wrong with everyone this morning? Had they all swallowed gunpowder for breakfast?
Liu Fei, feeling helpless, stepped forward to remove the masks from the two captives. Unexpectedly, each lashed out with a punch, catching Liu Fei off guard and knocking him to the ground.
An Feng wasted no time; he subdued the two with swift blows. They were weak and barely capable of resistance—Liu Fei had simply been inattentive. Yet as soon as they fell, both began to foam at the mouth, succumbing instantly to poison.
An Feng quickly removed their masks, only to discover their faces had been deliberately disfigured. These men had been thorough—now there would be no way to identify them or trace their families.
Mo Lan was at a loss. She couldn’t take charge of this case—it fell under Liu Fei’s jurisdiction. Besides, Little Seven’s attitude had already provoked Qianyin; who was she supposed to appease?
Liu Fei and Little Seven hurried over to check the bodies, shocked by the efficiency with which the men had ended their own lives.
Qianyin had no intention of staying any longer. The seal had been returned, and they had committed no crime. She was ready to leave, and Lengxue naturally followed. But Little Seven quickly blocked their path.
“They’re dead. You must come with us to the police station.”
“Must you be so bothersome?” Lengxue retorted unwillingly. “Did you see her kill anyone? Did she steal your seal? What right do you have to take her in?” He could see that Qianyin was still not fully sober, and this woman’s aggressiveness was infuriating—what was she after?
Mo Lan and An Feng could clearly see that Qianyin and Lengxue were furious. They tried to pull Little Seven back, but she stood her ground, her face set in stubborn righteousness.
Qianyin, thoroughly out of patience, simply shoved Little Seven aside and strode away, ignoring everyone else entirely. Lengxue shot Little Seven a look of disdain before hurrying after her.
Liu Fei sighed helplessly, helping Little Seven up. She sprang to her feet, intent on pursuit, but Liu Fei blocked her path. It was clear that Qianyin and Lengxue were not to be trifled with—any further provocation, and Little Seven would surely be on the receiving end of a beating.
Why couldn’t Little Seven just handle things calmly? What was the point of all this confrontation?
“What are you doing? Hurry up and bring them in! This matter is important!” Little Seven protested, glaring resentfully at the departing figures of Qianyin and Lengxue.
“I’m ordering you to return now. The seal has been recovered; there’s no need to pursue this any further,” Liu Fei said firmly, showing no favoritism.
Little Seven, still indignant, climbed into the car with Liu Fei, and together they returned to the station to rest.
Mo Lan and An Feng, helpless, watched Qianyin and Lengxue walk away, then hurried after them.
