Chapter One Hundred and One: The Mastermind Behind the Suspicious Car Incident

After everyone returned from the forest, they each became busy with their own affairs again. Mo Lan and An Feng had not brought back the masked man, so early that morning they went to meet the sheriff once more.

The sheriff had been much more relaxed lately, and his complexion had improved a great deal. The most exhausted were Xiao Qi and Liu Fei. They had been working themselves to the bone recently, chasing down those suspicious cars.

Liu Fei and Xiao Qi were also at the sheriff’s office, apparently reporting something. When Mo Lan and An Feng entered, they fell silent at once. One by one, they looked at Mo Lan and An Feng with keen curiosity.

“Did you find the mastermind?” Xiao Qi asked first. Qian Yin was also involved in this case. If they still had not found anyone, was it necessary to bring Qian Yin back for a while?

Mo Lan also thought of what had happened with Qian Yin last time, and did not know how to answer.

An Feng nodded, then pulled Mo Lan away to handle the case. Xiao Qi and Liu Fei watched the two of them go, their hearts filled with feelings they themselves could not quite name.

“You two should just admit it. The two of them, you two are not a match for them.” The sheriff felt he had to give them a warning. His judgment of people had always been quite accurate. Seeing how the two of them had been inseparable for so long, he knew no one could split them apart. Their backgrounds also matched beautifully; sooner or later, they would end up together.

After hearing this, the two said nothing. They turned and left at once, completely unaware that their behavior was already somewhat disrespectful to their superior. The sheriff did not mind. They were all young people, and it was normal for them to be lacking in courtesy at times.

Mo Lan and An Feng drove to the outskirts of the city. Since the people investigating them were not roaming the city center, they must be in the suburbs. Sure enough, there were six cars parked here, but no one was around.

The license plates and windows were all covered tightly. The cars were parked rather neatly, so the owners were likely nearby. Mo Lan quite admired An Feng’s mind; he had figured out so quickly that they would be here, and from her observation he had not used any special ability at all.

The two of them parked at a distance and simply watched the six cars in silence, with no intention of approaching. They were covered too thoroughly, and there was no way to tell whether anyone was inside. If someone suddenly came out, there would be no certainty of being able to take them back.

A few men were walking toward them along a small path. One look was enough for them to notice the two standing by the cars, and they frowned. They did not seem to recognize Mo Lan and An Feng.

Those men thought they were merely ordinary passersby who had come to the area for leisure and happened to discover their cars, and were just about to step forward and teach them a lesson. Mo Lan and An Feng never wore uniforms while on duty. They were part of the elite team now, and wearing uniforms would only make them easier to identify.

One rather rough-looking man came forward, reaching out as if to pinch Mo Lan’s cheek. He thought the woman was beautiful and ought to be teased properly.

An Feng instinctively seized the man’s hand and jerked it downward. There came the sharp crack of bone. The man screamed. Seeing this, An Feng kicked him hard in the groin. The man screamed again and collapsed to the ground.

The others, who had been watching the show, immediately hurried over to support him when they saw this. Each of them glared at Mo Lan and An Feng with ferocity. When that man had first reached out, Mo Lan had already wanted to teach him a lesson herself, but seeing how An Feng protected her, she let him handle it.

These men simply needed a beating. Did they not know that a woman who already belonged to someone could not be touched? Even if he ended up unable to father children, it would still be his own fault. A lustful man deserved no good end.

“Don’t go too far. Do you know who my boss is?”

“I don’t know, but I’m very curious.” An Feng followed the clue he had been given and asked.

“Tell you, and I’m afraid you’ll have to kneel to me.” The man speaking wore a wicked smile, his eyes fixed on Mo Lan all the while. His voice dripped with mockery, and his gaze was full of contempt.

The others stood nearby, still watching the spectacle. Only the man who had been taught a lesson was there, enduring the pain in silence. He was unwilling to submit, wanting to leave, yet also wanting to see An Feng and the others get their comeuppance.

Mo Lan stepped slightly behind An Feng. It was not that she feared these men; it was simply that their stares were too blatant, making one feel nauseated. When someone is there to protect you, you ought to appear like a delicate woman. When no one is there to protect you, then strike the other side down and show off your strength as a formidable woman.

An Feng smiled without speaking. In this world, whose name would he hear and then kneel before? How laughable. These foolish people.

“Our boss is Boss Wang, the owner of the Nanjing Pharmacy.”

He finished speaking slowly, his eyes never leaving the two of them. When he saw their expressions grow slightly blank, he even thought he had really frightened them with his words.

Those people immediately pointed at An Feng and Mo Lan and burst into laughter. An Feng and Mo Lan exchanged a glance, then stepped forward and each threw a punch. The group had not been paying attention and all of them went down.
