Chapter 70: A Misunderstanding (Part One)

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2454 words 2026-02-09 13:11:37

In the deep of night, Han felt there was nothing to do and staying here was simply tedious; after all, no work was being done tonight. So he wanted to find Qianyin for a chat, but the boss kept pacing in front of him, making it impossible to slip out. The boss, meanwhile, was busy messaging Qianyin and Coldblood, naturally having ways to obtain their contact information.

Of course, Qianyin, who was drunk, didn’t receive these messages; Coldblood did, but deleted them without hesitation. He used to be angry that Qianyin wanted to leave the assassin world; now, he didn’t wish for her to return. He simply deleted all of Qianyin’s messages as well—let others do those dirty deeds and not soil her hands.

The boss, waiting for a reply that never came, grew restless. Han watched the boss’s movements from the side, puzzled, but unwilling to interfere.

Coldblood, bored, took several photos of Qianyin’s cheek. It turned out that, when drunk, this woman was even cuter than usual. The thought deepened the tenderness in Coldblood’s eyes, his heart overflowing with pink-hued affection.

“Mm…” Qianyin found her position uncomfortable, shifted, and let out a soft murmur.

Startled, Coldblood nearly dropped his phone, scrambling to catch it. He had just been about to capture her expression. He was truly afraid Qianyin would suddenly wake and beat him up, or even question his intentions.

Coldblood didn’t want Qianyin to wake so soon, so he opened the door and slipped quietly back to his own room.

The boss, seeing Han still awake, approached him and asked, “Are you on good terms with the top two assassins?”

“Hmm…” Han was confused, his mind racing, but finally replied, “We’re alright, I suppose.”

“Can you get them to join our team? We’re still too short-handed,” the boss stated outright. Since Han was now his subordinate, it was only natural to share his worries.

Han had more or less expected this. There was no way he would let Qianyin become someone else’s subordinate, and as for Coldblood—well, that didn’t matter as much. If the boss failed, Qianyin would be in danger; he would never let her take such a risk.

“I can’t persuade them. I’m ranked tenth, they’re first and second—you must understand the gap that represents.”

The boss, hearing this, said nothing more, his mind already turning over other possibilities. He waved his sleeve and returned to the temple. The boss always had his ways; talking to Han was just a way to share the burden, not because he truly relied on him.

Most slept soundly that night, but Liu Fei and Little Seven were different.

The two were tailing a car whose occupants had stolen something of great importance. The car’s speed was astonishing, and it kept heading into the wilderness. The route was so winding that Liu Fei’s driving skills simply couldn’t match theirs.

Little Seven, furious, fired several rounds at the tires, but to no avail—the shots hit the ground, and the gunfire only startled the locals. Fortunately, the people nearby were timid and dared not investigate, assuming it was just another skirmish best ignored lest they invite trouble.

Liu Fei frowned deeply. After several winding turns, their quarry suddenly stopped on a bridge. Just as he was about to catch up, the car sped off in another direction, down an even more convoluted path, its destination unknown.

Little Seven, exhausted and hungry from lack of rest and food, was burning with rage towards these people.

On Liu Fei’s car, only Little Seven was present; the others had not followed. With An Feng and Mo Lan gone, Little Seven had joined Liu Fei’s team to help out.

Her abilities were indeed superior and she was responsible, so Liu Fei included her in everything he did.

“Do you still have the energy to keep up?” Liu Fei asked, noticing Little Seven’s breathless state and suspecting she was unwell. Truthfully, at this rate, they were unlikely to catch up, but at least they might learn their destination.

“Quit talking and drive! What’s the point of all this chatter?” Little Seven ignored Liu Fei’s concern. She only wanted to help her uncle and had no room for other naive hopes.

Seeing his goodwill brushed aside, Liu Fei sighed and sped after the car along the roadside. Their target kept turning, destination still uncertain.

Liu Fei was exhausted from the relentless chase, but both persisted, driving through the night without pause.

At last, the car stopped near the Mo family estate. Seeing this, Liu Fei was puzzled and parked at a distance. Instead of driving closer, he got out and approached stealthily along the forest edge.

Little Seven was equally bewildered. Could these people be connected to Mo Lan? If so, things would get complicated.

As dawn broke, those who needed to rise did so. Qianyin shook her head clear, sat up, and saw a glass of cool water by her side. Without thinking, she took a sip, then checked her phone—there were numerous messages.

Opening them, she found they were all from the same sender: Meet at the woods beside the Mo estate.

Qianyin tidied herself, washed up, and opened her door, only to find Coldblood standing outside like a guard. At the sound of the door, he immediately turned to her.

Coldblood had planned to rest a little longer, but he too had received the same message. Worried for Qianyin’s safety, he rushed over upon the first message and stationed himself at her door.

“Morning.”

“Morning. Why are you at my door so early?” Qianyin glanced back into her room—Mo Lan hadn’t slept with her last night. Had she been so drunk that they put her in another room?

“Did you get the same message? Meet at the woods by the Mo estate?” Coldblood was certain; the messages from last night were no coincidence, likely orchestrated by the same person.

Qianyin paused, nodded, and the two exchanged glances before quickly leaving the Mo estate side by side. Could it be that an envoy from the assassin world had arrived? The sudden closure of the online portal to the assassin world was truly baffling.

An Feng, an early riser, saw them leave in haste and quietly trailed after them. Mo Lan, noticing An Feng slip out, followed as well.

Qianyin, anxious, failed to notice the followers behind her. Coldblood, however, sensed An Feng's presence from the moment he began trailing them.

As they approached, Qianyin saw from afar two masked figures holding something in their hands. She had never seen such masks before and, curious, stepped forward to ask, “Who are you?”

Coldblood frowned deeply at the sight of the masks.

“Greetings, my lady.” The two suddenly turned to Qianyin, knelt before her, and respectfully offered the item they held.

Little Seven and Liu Fei exchanged astonished, incredulous glances.

Qianyin, curious, accepted the object, while Little Seven and Liu Fei, fearing the two might escape, burst forth with guns drawn, blocking the path of all four.
