Chapter 117: Mo Fan was kidnapped
Recently, Mo Fan’s life at school had been anything but peaceful. He found himself targeted, his computer sabotaged, and even hackers attacking the Mo family’s online businesses. To keep a watchful eye on his classmates, he set up a spare computer at school, convinced that among them lurked a traitor.
Returning home, Mo Fan felt his tension ease a little. Just as he parked his car, a sudden blow from behind struck him down, and he was kidnapped right at the gates of the Mo family estate. An Feng and Mo Lan saw the car parked outside, but not Mo Fan himself; assuming he had gone inside, they entered and called out his name.
“Is it time for dinner?” Mo Lan asked, noticing the maids bustling about.
“The young master hasn’t returned yet,” one of the maids replied.
If Mo Fan hadn’t come home, whose car was outside? An Feng and Mo Lan exchanged worried glances, sensing trouble. They rushed outside and, upon approaching the car, discovered blood stains.
Without hesitation, An Feng used his abilities. In his mind, he glimpsed a vague scene: Mo Fan, weary, stepping out of the car, only to be struck from behind and dragged away by masked figures whose destination was unknown.
Mo Lan refrained from disturbing An Feng but, seeing his expression, knew things had taken a dangerous turn—Mo Fan was in peril. It had to be the boss’s people again, their hands constantly reaching into the Mo family. Clearly, their target was the Mo family’s businesses.
“He was knocked out and taken by the boss’s men,” An Feng said with displeasure. This was his future brother-in-law—the boss was getting reckless. Action must be taken soon, or more innocent people would be hurt.
Mo Lan and An Feng entered the Mo family’s home with heavy hearts. The family was gathered at the table, waiting for dinner. Seeing their troubled faces, everyone grew curious—what had happened this time? Why were these two never happy?
“Mo Fan has been kidnapped, right outside the gates. The boss’s people did it,” An Feng calmly stated.
“What?” Grandfather Mo was the first to leap to his feet, intent on running outside. Though he loved Mo Lan dearly, it didn’t mean he wasn’t worried about Mo Fan—after all, Mo Fan was the sole heir of the family.
Everyone’s hearts weighed heavy; Qianyin hadn’t returned yet, and now Mo Fan had been taken. It was clear they were currently at a disadvantage. When would An Feng and Mo Lan’s people grow strong enough to rescue Qianyin as well?
If they could help, the odds would surely improve. Now, the Mo family was on the losing side, and the boss had begun his assault. No one could leave the Mo estate—if they did, the two elders would be in grave danger.
Dong, Nan, Xi, and Bei sighed deeply. Even if they wanted to help, they couldn’t leave.
“Grandfather, please calm yourself. Mo Fan will be all right. We’ll rescue him,” Mo Lan hurried to grasp Grandfather Mo’s hand, not wanting him to become too agitated, though the situation certainly warranted telling them.
An Feng was at his wit’s end, knowing everyone present would be upset. If Grandfather Mo found out, he might angrily send people out to search, but there was nothing to be done—danger lurked everywhere.
Just then, a servant entered, holding a letter. He glanced at those present and handed it to Mo Lan, his expression odd. “A masked man just showed up outside, told me to give this to you.”
In this day and age, who still sends letters?
Mo Lan took it, and the servant quickly left. She was baffled—who would resort to such an antiquated method?
As Mo Lan was about to open it, An Feng sensed something amiss, snatched it, and tore it open. Upon reading its contents, his face fell.
Mo Lan leaned in, her fists clenched tightly. That boss Wang must have a death wish; he was the mastermind behind this. Had he gained some benefit from working with the boss, or was it simply revenge against the Mo family?
The others crowded around, and their faces soured as they read. Grandfather Mo was especially furious, practically leaping with rage. That little Wang ought to be punished—he never should have helped him before, and last time he shouldn’t have spared his life.
The letter from boss Wang read: “If you want to save Young Master Mo, Miss Mo and Detective An must both come to Nanjing, to Wang’s Medicine Shop. Bring sixty million to ransom him. If you dare inform the police, I’ll poison him at once and send his corpse back to the Mo family. You have two days—if you don’t come, regret it later.”
“Grandfather, prepare the ‘money’,” An Feng said after a moment’s thought, emphasizing the word “money.” It wouldn’t be so easy for Wang to get sixty million.
Grandfather Mo didn’t notice An Feng’s choice of words, only understood the instruction. He nodded and went straight to the study to make calls, instructing certain people to prepare the ‘money’—money that would surely satisfy little Wang.
Old Immortal had intended to follow, but instead returned and handed Mo Lan a packet of powder. “This is an antidote to snake venom. I’ve worked hard to develop it—take good care of it. At worst, the side effects may be a headache for a few days or a high fever, nothing more.”
Mo Lan clutched the powder tightly, a cold smile curling at her lips. So they dared lay hands on the Mo family—boss Wang could not be allowed to remain, but what of their current training? Should it be halted? And what about Qianyin?
An Feng had thought of this too. He glanced at Dong, the leader, and said, “Dong, go to the police station and help train those men for me. Train them as you would train assassins.”
Dong was surprised, anxious for their sake, but after a moment’s hesitation, nodded. He was an outsider; those at the police station wouldn’t follow him easily, and training them would be troublesome.
The other three looked at Dong with admiration—what a joyous prospect.
Mo Lan relaxed upon hearing Dong would help, and hurried to her room to prepare.
An Feng planned to return home to inform his uncle, then take Dong to the police station and prepare for departure. The sooner, the better; rescuing Qianyin was now the second priority, but Mo Fan’s situation had pushed her into third.
Dong, Nan, Xi, and Bei stood in place, realizing only now, after their initial panic, that the Mo family would always save Mo Fan first. Qianyin was left behind once again. But with their strength so limited, they had no way to storm Wolf Bear Mountain and rescue Qianyin. Hopefully, Mo Lan would remember Qianyin’s past kindness and hurry to save her.
On the road to Nanjing, boss Wang wore a sinister smile. Mo Fan, unconscious, was stuffed into the trunk, wrapped in a burlap sack. Han sat beside him, his mood gloomy. Why hadn’t he seen Qianyin? Last time the boss failed to capture her—where had she gone?
“What’s on your mind?” asked boss Wang, delighted, even daring to question Han despite his icy expression.
Han closed his eyes, refusing to speak to Wang. Such a person was beneath him.
