Chapter Fifty-Seven: Liu Fei
Mo Lan hurried over to the two old men, anxiously asking, "Are you both alright?"
The Elder Immortal glanced irritably at the Elder Mo, thinking to himself: just a few days here, and already encountering murder. The Mo family is truly unsettled.
"A lot of people should have been injured, but they suddenly retreated. We haven't figured out what’s going on yet. Seems we really need to find a safer place for the family, or else we might just lose it all someday. Ha!" Elder Mo spoke cheerfully, as if he hadn’t been frightened at all.
Mo Lan said nothing, simply holding Elder Mo tightly in her arms.
Mo Fan and Elder Mo had already begun cleaning up the house—after all, how could they sleep tonight otherwise? After such a major incident, it was imperative to investigate thoroughly who was targeting the Mo family.
An Feng simply stood, gazing at the corpses scattered across the ground, his brows tightly furrowed. Was this type of weapon still so popular nowadays?
He examined the bodies: the attackers must have moved swiftly. Some victims had barely bled, dying as their blood slowly drained away. The technique was so practiced—it must have been done by habitual killers.
The dead at the scene all wore masks, identical to the one they’d seen on that man earlier. The more An Feng thought about it, the more he believed it was connected to the boss. But that man was elusive, almost supernatural—where could he even begin to look for him? This must be stopped, or one day he’d be stabbed in the back without warning.
Other police officers arrived at the scene. An Feng said, "Help clean up here. I’ll take over this case, you don’t need to handle it. Leave their masks for me, send the bodies to the crematorium."
The squad leader was once again Liu Fei, who had been particularly busy lately. He hadn't planned to come, but as soon as he heard it involved the Mo family, he rushed over.
When he saw An Feng at the scene, he knew there was nothing left for him to do but follow orders, keeping his smile, and diligently handling the situation.
Mo Lan, seeing how hard they were working, poured tea for them herself, then sat quietly with the two elders.
The officers, seeing the blood everywhere, had no mood for tea and began moving the bodies at once. In such a grisly scene, how many could calmly drink water? Mo Lan was one of the few; she needed a sip to steady her nerves.
As they dragged the corpses away, the officers felt deeply unsettled—so many deaths lately. They paid particular attention to the masks, whose design and details were rare.
They’d caught many masked criminals before, but this type of mask seemed to be a first.
Mo Fan was checking information and news online, and had sent people to investigate, though he hadn’t received any replies yet. Looking at recent cases, he realized the mask was indeed the same. Was some new power rising?
This was no good sign—it was already threatening the existence of the Mo family. Their targets seemed to be influential bosses and powerful figures.
Mo Lan glanced at the four youngsters and asked, "Where’s Qian Yin? Haven’t they returned yet?"
The four shook their heads, replying, "They should be at Boss Jin’s place. They’ve noticed something odd lately, so they can’t come back for now."
Mo Lan fell silent—was it that man, the boss?
But with Coldblood as her protector, Qian Yin should be safe. Her heart, which had been suspended in worry, eased a little.
Elder Mo, upon hearing this, said, "Mo Lan, An Feng, you two should go to Boss Jin’s place, meet up with Qian Yin. Perhaps you’ll discover something new."
The Elder Immortal felt little about this, simply stood and returned to the medicinal garden, preparing to make some defensive remedies. Otherwise, he’d end up as another victim in the Mo family. It was time to make preparations for himself.
"Where are you going? Aren’t you going to rest a bit?" Seeing him leave, Elder Mo jumped up, pretending to follow.
"I need to take responsibility for my own life, otherwise, who’ll avenge me if I die?" Elder Immortal replied, discontented, heading for his residence. Elder Mo paid no mind to others and followed him at once.
Mo Lan shook her head helplessly, glanced at An Feng—it was time to talk to Qian Yin about these matters.
Upon hearing Elder Mo’s words, An Feng had already moved closer to Mo Lan, quietly accompanying her regardless of anyone else. Liu Fei, having just carried out a corpse, returned to witness this scene, which pierced him deeply; he clenched his fists, lowered his head without a word, and continued dragging the next body.
Mo Lan saw An Feng had come over, knowing he had agreed with Grandpa’s suggestion. She stopped Liu Fei, calmly saying, "We have things to attend to, so we’ll leave this to you. We’ll find the source of this case. Thank you."
With that, the two walked out side by side. Liu Fei watched in silence. For a moment, he thought they suited each other perfectly, but his heart was filled with bitterness and unwillingness.
"Captain, are you alright?"
A police officer, noticing Liu Fei standing there for so long, came over and shook him.
"I’m fine. Hurry up and finish this," Liu Fei regained his composure, swiftly dragging the body away. He realized he needed to work harder, or else the person he liked would never look at him.
Liu Fei believed all effort would be rewarded, but in love, effort alone was not enough.
"Captain..." These officers had originally followed Mo Lan, and understood Liu Fei’s feelings well, but knew the two belonged to different worlds.
Mo Lan was now deputy captain, part of the elite squad, while they were just ordinary members. Setting aside that status, Mo Lan was the Mo family’s heiress; the ordinary Liu Fei simply wasn’t worthy.
Moreover, An Feng was such an outstanding captain—how could Mo Lan not like him?
Thinking this, they could only shake their heads lightly, resigned. Perhaps love was just like this.
An Feng and Mo Lan quickly drove toward Boss Jin’s jade shop.
Qian Yin, upon seeing everything shut down online, paused, glanced at Coldblood, and reached for his phone. Without hesitation, he handed it over.
Seeing the same result, Qian Yin frowned deeply. Had the boss so easily let these people go? Or was he conserving strength for a bigger operation?
Just then, Qian Yin saw the online news: the Mo family had been attacked!
She immediately called Mo Lan. Each second waiting for Mo Lan to answer was agonizing—so many dead, could something have happened? Would the two elders be alright? Were the four youngsters safe?
