Chapter 124: Chione Out of Control (Part One)

Mo Lan returned directly to the Mo family. Qian Yin also took a seat, and soon it would be time to eat. It had been a long while since everyone gathered together like this. Just as Master Mo stepped through the door, An Feng followed behind.
Mo Lan didn’t even glance at An Feng. She sat there, head bowed, silently eating with a gloomy mood. Indeed, An Feng had been at fault—he hadn’t explained things promptly. Even if he felt sympathy for the officers at the police station, he shouldn’t have forgotten that Dong was the one he invited over.
To make matters worse, when trouble arose, he dared to get upset—upset with whom? The more Mo Lan thought about it, the angrier she became.
The two old men quietly ate their meal, choosing not to interfere in the younger generation’s matters. Master Mo knew Mo Fan had returned, injured, and was so furious he had stormed off to his room, uninterested in eating.
Dong, Nan, Xi, and Bei also ate silently, their eyes never leaving Qian Yin. From time to time, they offered her food with a warmth that was quite touching. Qian Yin felt a bit displeased, after all, she still hadn’t found Leng Xue. He didn’t reply to her messages, and she was anxious, only comforting herself by thinking he was just busy.
An Feng watched the expressions on the two women’s faces from the side and thought, alright, he was wrong. He personally picked up a chicken wing and placed it in Mo Lan’s bowl.
Mo Lan immediately pushed it aside with her chopsticks, refusing even to eat it. This matter required an apology to Dong; it wasn’t something a mere chicken wing could resolve. Otherwise, An Feng would continue to think her friends were easy to take advantage of.
An Feng awkwardly smiled and put down his chopsticks.
Qian Yin glanced at the two and said, “What are you two bickering about? Weren’t things fine just now?”
Seeing An Feng had no intention of explaining, Mo Lan turned to Dong and said, “From now on, if he asks you to do anything, don’t help him. Do you know what those officers said today? They said he almost got them killed. An Feng helped them but forgot it was he who invited you over in the first place.”
Dong said nothing but put another chicken wing into Qian Yin’s bowl, smiling a little. It was just venting his anger anyway.
Qian Yin looked at the scene, then at the mountain of food piled in her bowl, and smiled. “Stop feeding me. I’m not a pig. How can I eat so much?”
An Feng was helpless; after all, this was the woman he liked, the one he had chosen to cherish. He stood up, bowed to Dong, and said, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have been angry with you. Dong, I’m sorry.”
Dong waved his hand dismissively, not even saying “it’s okay.” He had had enough of those police officers; whether or not An Feng apologized was irrelevant. There were just two stubborn guys who were unpleasant to deal with.

Only then did Mo Lan calm down a bit and offered Qian Yin a chicken leg. Qian Yin glared at her but continued to take food—was she not letting others eat?
Mo Lan smiled and said, “It’s fine. You should eat more to make up for the days you weren’t here.”
Qian Yin stopped speaking and lowered her head, thinking of Leng Xue. How she wished he were here. Where had he gone? Not a single message in reply—was he really that busy?
Seeing Qian Yin like this, no one dared say a word. Heads bowed, they picked at their food, no longer offering dishes, afraid of stirring up painful memories.
As night fell, An Feng pulled Mo Lan along with Qian Yin, preparing to go for a walk. Dong, Nan, Xi, and Bei wanted to follow, but An Feng shot them a look that stopped them. Qian Yin was confused—why did the two lovers take her along? Was it to avoid her being lonely or because they thought she hadn’t experienced love’s sweetness?
Still, seeing the three holding hands, she forgave them.
“Where are you two taking me?” Qian Yin asked. They were just walking along the road, no car in sight. It didn’t seem very safe, and there was nothing fun about aimless wandering.
“Do you have something to tell me?” Qian Yin looked at them, but they said nothing. She stopped and stared ahead. Although she couldn’t recall clearly, her intuition told her that something had happened to Leng Xue.
Mo Lan turned around, gripping Qian Yin’s hand tightly, gritting her teeth. “Leng Xue is dead. This is what he left for you.” Mo Lan took a small pouch from her bag, inside which was the shattered four-leaf clover.
An Feng pressed his lips, standing beside them. It was An Feng’s decision, after long discussion with Mo Lan, to tell her. They didn’t want Qian Yin to be the last to know of Leng Xue’s death. In truth, they didn’t realize she was actually the first to know.
Qian Yin was stunned, her mind in chaos. Memories of Leng Xue’s words kept flashing through her head. She couldn’t accept the truth. On top of the earlier events, her head throbbed painfully.
She pushed Mo Lan away, crouched down holding her head, her eyes slowly filling with tears. Angrily, she shouted at Mo Lan, “You’re lying! How could he be dead? He said he would marry me. He said he would take me to live quietly in Nanjing. He can’t be dead.”
An Feng steadied Mo Lan, who had been pushed away, quietly watching Qian Yin’s breakdown. Though he knew the blow was great, he hadn’t thought it would be so severe.
Mo Lan regained her footing, pushed An Feng aside, and knelt to embrace Qian Yin, tears streaming down her face. Seeing her like this, her heart ached deeply. No one wanted to see the girl with starry eyes cry.

“Qian Yin, don’t be sad. He would be angry up there if he saw you like this. He wouldn’t want to see you suffer.” Mo Lan gently stroked Qian Yin’s head, soothing her.
Qian Yin shoved Mo Lan away fiercely and stood up, pointing at her in anger. “Stop it. How could he be dead?”
An Feng stepped forward again, holding Mo Lan, and said harshly, “Qian Yin, what madness are you in? Leng Xue’s death is a fact. We just want you to accept it.”
Mo Lan glanced at An Feng, eyes glaring, signaling him to stop. Qian Yin was already so heartbroken—how could he say such things?
Qian Yin could barely stand, her steps unsteady. Pointing with trembling fingers, she sobbed, “I fell from the mountain. I finally forgot, and now you remind me. You say I can’t live without him? Is that enough? Are you satisfied?”
She remembered everything now—everything came back. That man had been pushed from the building right before her. From such a height, he must have died. But Qian Yin refused to accept it. She wanted to live in a world where Leng Xue still existed, even if only in her imagination.
Mo Lan looked at the frantic Qian Yin and once again tried to embrace her, but An Feng held her back.
“Let her be for a while,” An Feng said. Right now, she was like a madwoman. If Mo Lan approached, she might get hurt. An Feng was biased—seeing Qian Yin like this, he wanted to protect his own woman rather than comfort Qian Yin.
No matter what An Feng said, Mo Lan wanted to hold the trembling Qian Yin. But An Feng hugged her tightly, and no matter how hard Mo Lan struggled, she couldn’t break free.
Qian Yin watched this scene and felt both mocked and amused. Leng Xue was dead, yet these two still displayed their affection in front of her. Was it as if they resented her existence in this world?
The stars that once shone in her eyes vanished again, never to return. Her already shattered heart now lay in countless fragments.
