Chapter One Hundred and Eleven: Han Accompanies Qianyin Down the Mountain, Part One
The officers at the station were once again living in a frenzy. Every one of them was rushed off their feet, exhausted from running errands all day long, forcing their weary bodies to keep patrolling everywhere, covering every corner.
Mo Lan had cried through the entire night and gone hungry through the entire night. After breakfast, she went to work at the station. Now she was cold as ice, no longer smiling at anyone. She did not even acknowledge the greetings of the Mo family.
At such a time, she had to surpass herself, forget these sorrowful things, and do everything she could to rescue Qian Yin. This was no time for grief, so she did not want to let the feelings buried deep in her heart surface.
An Feng looked at Mo Lan like that and did not know how to comfort her. He merely handed her a carton of milk, then returned to his seat and continued watching the surveillance feeds along every road.
Under the chief’s pressure, An Feng truly had not been able to step outside. But he had a condition: Mo Lan could not leave either. So in the entire station, the only two people with any free time were the two of them.
Mo Lan did not feel the slightest gratitude for what An Feng had done. She only felt that he was controlling her freedom. So when she took the milk, her face remained cold, giving no sign of happiness at all.
Did An Feng not know how anxious Mo Lan was? She wished she could rush to the boss’s base at once and rescue Qian Yin, but she did not know where the boss’s base was.
Meanwhile, on Wolf Bear Mountain, in the stone-built base, Qian Yin and Leng Xue were placed in separate rooms and could not hear each other at all. The boss was keeping watch over Leng Xue the whole time, only leaving when other superiors came to find him.
Leng Xue had been blindfolded the entire time and had no idea where he was. When he was brought up here, he had been carried by others, so he had no way of knowing where they had taken him.
Qian Yin was guarded by Han, who even brought her food. Qian Yin sat coldly to one side, quietly leaning there. She, too, had been blindfolded. No matter what, she refused to eat or speak. Han grew anxious but did not dare force her.
The womanizing thief had been here once. Seeing Qian Yin in this state, he somewhat missed the first time he had seen her smile. The Qian Yin of now was like a corpse without a soul. Though her body still carried the breath of life, her heart had long since died.
What should they do?
Qian Yin still refused to eat. If there was even the slightest hint of coercion, she would refuse and even harm herself, leaving Han with no way to proceed. He could only fret helplessly at the side.
Leng Xue over there also refused to eat. He kept wanting to go see Qian Yin, and the boss’s obstruction made him furious. He hated the boss to the core. That despicable man was cunning and treacherous, truly not to be underestimated. He had been careless back then; otherwise he would not have ended up like this. It was all because of him that Qian Yin had suffered such misery.
“What exactly do you want before you’ll release Qian Yin?” Leng Xue yielded. As long as Qian Yin was safe, he did not care what he had to do. He could not imagine how heartbroken Qian Yin would be upon learning of his death.
“Now that both of you are in my hands, what right do you have to bargain with me?” The boss sneered. He was not foolish. Since the people were in his hands, he would deal with them however he pleased. The two of them were in no position to negotiate.
Leng Xue pressed his lips together tightly and said no more. He lowered his head and still refused to eat. How could the boss possibly let Leng Xue die here as he wished? He immediately arranged for two people to feed him at every meal, on time. Whether he ate or not, he had to eat. Those two assassins happened to be women, and their movements were relatively gentle. They also treated Leng Xue with a certain degree of respect.
The boss had deliberately arranged for women to take care of Leng Xue, hoping he would give up his love for Qian Yin and accept these female assassins instead.
Seeing that someone was taking care of Leng Xue and that he could not escape, the boss left this place and went to another room to discuss matters with Mr. Wang, who had just arrived.
The womanizing thief went down the mountain to handle something. He had left secretly, and with so many assassins in the base, no one noticed his departure at all. Now that there were so many orders to handle, the boss would no longer seek him out all the time.
Days passed in succession. At last, Qian Yin, who had not eaten a single meal, was overcome by hunger and fainted.
Han was startled and hurriedly fed her some food and water. Only after drinking a little water did Qian Yin slowly wake up.
“Please stop tormenting yourself like this, all right? It hurts me to see you like this.” Han shook Qian Yin’s body in anger and roared. The moment he entered and saw her collapse, Heaven knew how anxious he had been.
“If Leng Xue dies, won’t I be heartbroken too?” Qian Yin shot back angrily. At the mere mention of Leng Xue, tears poured down her face. Her already weak body was shaken a few times by Han, and became even weaker.
Han half-held Qian Yin in his arms and removed the cloth from her eyes. Qian Yin used all her strength to push him away, and the two of them fell to the ground together, nearly striking the stone again.
Han helped Qian Yin up and kept a certain distance from her. He closed his eyes, and it seemed as if tears were falling from the corners of them. Slowly, he lifted his head to look at the stone above them and said, “Let me take you away.”
Qian Yin was panting. She was far too hungry and had not eaten for days, leaving her with no strength at all. The fact that she had managed to endure until now was entirely due to her willpower; otherwise she would have long since collapsed and died.
Upon hearing Han’s words, Qian Yin took everything on the stone table, whether it was cold or not, and stuffed it into her mouth. After eating until she was full and drinking her fill, she looked at Han and asked, “When will you send me away?”
Han handed her the assassin’s clothes and mask he had prepared long ago. He had begun preparing these things on the very first day Qian Yin refused to eat, intending to secretly send her out. No matter how the boss punished him, so long as he could send Qian Yin out safely, he would do so willingly.
Han stood by the door with his back turned, looking out into the distance. He let Qian Yin change clothes inside, and he would absolutely not steal even a glance. Nor would he permit the assassins outside to come in and watch.
Qian Yin looked at Han’s resolute back. He seemed somewhat forlorn.
Leng Xue was dying for her, and would Han become the second? It seemed that that prophecy had truly come true. This year, she really would lose everything she had.
A faint cold smile touched Qian Yin’s lips, while tears glimmered in her eyes. She turned away, took off her clothes, put on the assassin’s uniform, donned the mask, and arranged her hair differently from usual.
Qian Yin walked to Han’s side and tapped him lightly. “Let’s go.”
Han turned back and glanced at Qian Yin’s current appearance. So long as she did not remove the mask, no one could indeed recognize her. At this moment, he felt unbearably reluctant to part with her. How long would it be before they met again? And when they did, would it be on the battlefield of life and death?
Han thought for only about a minute before walking straight out, with Qian Yin following behind him. The two assassins guarding the entrance saw them leave and were somewhat puzzled.
“Brother, this...”
“His Lordship told me to take her over. Do you have any objections?” Han’s eyes carried a frigid killing intent as he fixed the assassin with a hard stare.
Those two assassins had killed many people before, but under those eyes, they lowered their heads at once and did not dare look directly. Thus the two of them passed the first checkpoint without incident.
