Chapter Sixty-Seven: Qianyin's Awkwardness

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2394 words 2026-02-09 13:11:34

Early in the morning, all four woke much earlier than usual. Knowing that Boss Jin would surely be restless, they bid farewell to the two bodyguards and immediately set off by car to return to the Mo family estate. The bodyguards would inform Boss Jin of their departure.

Watching their figures recede into the distance, the two bodyguards couldn’t help but sigh. These four were all important figures; Boss Jin’s acquaintance with them had indeed helped him grow. Thanks to the four, he had finally realized he could no longer afford to be so naive.

Upon their return, the first thing the group did was hurry to the residence of Elder Immortal.

By now it was noon, and Elder Immortal and Old Mo were playing chess, both elder men thoroughly enjoying the serene country life as they sat together.

“Grandpa, Elder Immortal, we’re back!” Mo Lan called out the moment she opened the small gate to Elder Immortal’s quarters, and the three others followed her inside.

“Good to have you back. Can’t you see we’re playing chess? Don’t disturb us,” Elder Immortal grumbled, his luck at chess currently less than favorable, so his tone was not the warmest.

Mo Lan didn’t mind; she glanced at the board, then walked over to her grandfather and gently massaged his back, looking every bit the dutiful granddaughter.

“Glad you’re home. Have you had lunch yet?” Old Mo asked, still tender toward his granddaughter, who was always running about. Yet hearing Elder Immortal scold her didn’t anger him; after all, Elder Immortal was like half a grandfather as well.

“I haven’t eaten yet, but I’m not hungry for now,” Mo Lan replied, though she wasn’t sure if the others were hungry.

“My precious disciple, won’t you massage my back as well? Others have granddaughters doting on them, but you, as my disciple, don’t know how to care for your master,” Elder Immortal said, glaring at Old Mo, who seemed to flaunt his granddaughter in a way that irked him.

Qian Yin suddenly found it amusing—so Elder Immortal could get jealous too! But seeing how pitiful he looked, she stepped forward and gently massaged his back.

Old Mo merely smiled, showing no jealousy; he had his granddaughter, after all, and didn’t want to upset Elder Immortal. If Elder Immortal got annoyed and closed the door, he wouldn’t be able to crawl in.

The two men standing at the doorway felt helpless watching the scene unfold. Their own women were massaging someone else’s back—neither woman had ever done so for them in public. How many firsts had these two women given away?

The two elders continued their chess game, ignoring the men at the door as though they were invisible. These were the men trying to win over the two young women—naturally, they needed to be tested and guarded against.

At that moment, both elders silently resolved to make things difficult for the two men, lest they never learn to cherish what they have.

“Go fetch us some fruit and tea. The four little ones have gone to get medicinal herbs,” Old Mo said first. Though the girls said they weren’t hungry, he still wanted them to eat something.

“Remember, I want plain boiled water, and a teapot. I have herbs here. And peel the fruit cleanly, cut the skins, and bring them over,” Elder Immortal added.

The two men were momentarily stunned, but seeing their women’s eyes fixed upon them, they nodded and went to the hall to find fruit, a teapot, and water.

“How have you been getting along lately? I see the two of them are starting to figure things out,” Old Mo mused, stroking his chin. His eyes were nearly squinting with laughter—he was about to win this game.

“Who?” Qian Yin and Mo Lan asked in unison, eyes wide with curiosity, looking adorably innocent.

“An Feng and Coldblood—they’re fond of you two. Didn’t you know?” Elder Immortal huffed. Although these two girls were precious, he didn’t want the other two to seem so unworthy; after all, they were talented young men. It would be a pity if they missed out.

Qian Yin felt awkward—she knew Coldblood was good to her, but dared not presume. If he was only playing around, would she lose in matters of the heart?

Mo Lan’s cheeks were flushed with embarrassment. She’d met An Feng’s uncle, who was kind to her and approved of their relationship. Lately, An Feng had been caring and indulgent, even gifting her such an expensive phone.

Did that mean An Feng had her in his heart now?

“Elder Immortal, Grandpa, please stay out of our affairs. You wouldn’t understand the world of the young,” Mo Lan said, her face still red. Noticing Qian Yin’s awkward expression, she quickly steered the conversation away. It was time to end it, or else Qian Yin wouldn’t sleep well tonight.

Qian Yin, embarrassed, merely smiled and said nothing, her head lowered as she continued massaging Elder Immortal’s back.

The two elders didn’t know how to continue the topic and simply let it drop.

The two men actually went to the kitchen in search of the requested items. The kitchen aunties looked at the young masters in confusion, but seeing their earnest effort, they gladly helped gather everything.

Teapot, cups, freshly boiled water, and fresh fruit from the kitchen—Coldblood carefully peeled the fruit, while An Feng boiled water and poured it into the teapot, loading it onto a tray and bringing it out first.

Coldblood followed soon after, carrying two plates of fruit, cut into various shapes and looking appetizing.

When the two arrived, Qian Yin still couldn’t meet Coldblood’s gaze—thinking of that whip, she knew he was a good person.

Elder Immortal didn’t care for anyone’s reactions. As he reached for the tea leaves, he also took out the prepared medicinal powder, placing it on the table and steeping his herbal tea.

An Feng and Coldblood sensed the strange atmosphere, puzzled as they glanced at Mo Lan and Qian Yin.

“This is Sleep Fragrance. It can be taken directly or blown into someone’s airways. The effect lasts three hours—the side effects are unclear. Take it; it’ll come in handy,” Elder Immortal said proudly.

Qian Yin stepped forward and took it, examining it carefully. It looked promising—her master was indeed extraordinary, much better than the last concoction. This should be a unique formula.

“Hungry? Have some fruit!” Coldblood stepped forward, spearing a piece of fruit with a fork and offering it to Qian Yin.

Her hand, holding the medicinal powder, trembled slightly. She didn’t accept the fruit, but instead smiled awkwardly and said, “I’m going to find the four little ones. You guys talk; I’ll be off!” With that, she hurried out.

“Ah!” Coldblood found it odd, casting a scrutinizing glance at the three remaining.

The two elders pretended not to notice, continuing their chess game and sipping tea.

Mo Lan began to feel awkward as well—were her grandfather and Elder Immortal shirking responsibility? “Go after her! Hurry and catch up,” Mo Lan said, pointing in the direction Qian Yin had gone.

Coldblood nodded, set down the fruit, and quickly went after her.

“Qian Yin’s gone, so you have some fruit,” An Feng said. He didn’t know what had happened, but the fruit was fresh and shouldn’t be wasted.

Mo Lan nodded, picked up a plate, and carefully began to eat.
