Chapter 107: Presenting the Plaque!
“Captain Zhang, you’re here to make arrests, right?”
“Quick, this way please. This heinous murderer is right over there!”
Gao Juncai and the others approached Zhang Feng eagerly.
“Arrest? Arrest whom?” Zhang Feng asked, puzzled.
“Qin Mu, of course! This utterly villainous man! He should be swiftly taken back and sentenced to death!” Many present were eager to witness Qin Mu’s execution.
This man, who dared publicly challenge the Jiang Alliance, deserved such a grim fate.
“Hmph.”
Zhang Feng seemed to grasp their intentions, sneered coldly, and ignored them. He stepped forward, clasped his hands respectfully, and said, “Mr. Qin, Zhang Feng here. First of all, congratulations on the grand opening of White Emperor City. May your fortunes flourish!”
His words left the crowd utterly baffled.
“Captain Zhang, isn’t this improper?” someone asked. Instead of arresting Qin, he was paying him respects.
What was going on?
“Celebrating someone’s grand opening is just basic courtesy and etiquette. How is that improper?” Zhang Feng retorted.
“Do you not congratulate anyone when they open their business or take their seat?”
With such seasoned tact, Zhang Feng exposed their true motives in a single sentence, leaving them speechless and forced to avert their gazes.
“Captain Zhang, don’t change the subject. I have sufficient evidence proving that Qin Mu is a heinous murderer. Given his crimes, he deserves the death penalty. Letting him die swiftly would be lenient.”
Xie Donglin snorted coldly and slapped the documents on the table before Zhang Feng.
“Especially the scenes of Qin slaughtering dozens of innocent civilians in the outskirts—if that gets out, it won’t reflect well on the bureau behind you, Captain.”
“No need to emphasize that, Deputy Xie. I’ve come here exactly for this matter,” Zhang Feng said, stepping forward past Xie Donglin, deliberately ignoring the evidence.
“To acknowledge Mr. Qin’s outstanding contributions to the city’s public security.”
“Our Director Chen will personally inscribe a banner of honor to present to him.”
Everyone was stunned.
What did this mean?
Giving a banner of honor to a murderer?
Huang Qian stepped forward calmly and slowly unfurled a crimson and gold banner in her hands.
All eyes fixed on it.
The banner did not bear the usual slogans like “Uphold justice, eliminate harm,” or other customary praises.
Instead, in golden powder, two lines of calligraphy poetry were inscribed:
“A spark of noble spirit,”
“A thousand miles of exhilarating wind!”
Majestic and vigorous!
All who saw it felt a solemn awe.
Such praise was unparalleled throughout the city.
“What exactly do you mean, Captain Zhang?” Xie Donglin’s face darkened completely, his tone now hostile.
“If you can’t explain yourself, I’ll personally visit Director Chen at headquarters and ask him if his blatant misrepresentation is worthy of his decades of experience!”
Xie’s expression was grim and his words resolute as he tapped sharply on the table.
“I think your so-called elite talent at headquarters could use some reorganization.”
Though Xie Donglin couldn’t directly interfere with headquarters personnel, if he found a weakness, it would be easy for him to use connections to severely damage Zhang Feng and Director Chen.
“Deputy Xie, do you have any objections to Director Chen’s appraisal? I happen to think it suits Mr. Qin very well.”
Unexpectedly calm, Zhang Feng countered Xie Donglin’s aggression with a composed question.
Xie’s face twisted in fury as he pulled several statements from the files and thrust them at Zhang Feng, shaking them for emphasis.
“These are true testimonies from Zhou Dongchen of the Zhou family, Yang Long of the Yang family, and several others. They unanimously accuse Qin Mu of killing their heirs.”
“For that crime alone, he deserves to be shot!”
“How can he be worthy of such a banner?!”
Xie Donglin shouted angrily.
“Zhou family? Yang family?” Before Zhang Feng could reply, Huang Qian chuckled softly behind him.
“What are you laughing at? Do you have the right to speak?” Xie snapped furiously.
Today he was truly insolent—anyone dared to contradict him?
Unfazed, Huang Qian held the banner more firmly, lifted her head, and met Xie Donglin’s gaze directly.
“Deputy Xie, you wield great authority, not even granting others the right to speak.”
Xie’s mouth twitched just as he was about to retort, but Huang Qian’s quick words cut him off.
“Besides, I’m a member of Captain Zhang’s team. Why wouldn’t I have the right to speak?”
“These two families, and all the heirs you mentioned, are riddled with crimes.”
“Bullying peers, hundreds of cases of sexual assault on young women, anyone displeasing them was beaten to near death—calling it ‘lessons’ to teach others how to behave!”
“A simple investigation uncovers countless crimes.”
“The ones who truly deserve execution are them!”
“You! You!!” Xie was left speechless with anger.
Huang Qian smiled proudly. Even after meeting Qin Mu, she remained fearless of the powerful, speaking bluntly as always.
“If we’re talking crime, at worst Mr. Qin committed the offense of striking first and reporting later, but in essence, he’s eliminating harm for the people.”
“Bring him to our bureau for a day to record a statement, have his family elders vouch for him, and the matter will be settled.”
“Deputy Xie, any further questions?”
Huang Qian’s eloquence left Xie Donglin sputtering.
“Very well! Captain Zhang, you’ve truly trained an exemplary apprentice!”
“Thank you for the praise, Deputy. It’s what we elders ought to do,” Zhang Feng replied with thick skin, waving off the compliment.
“What about this Qin fellow slaughtering dozens of civilians in the outskirts? How do you explain that?!”
“Mass murder of innocents, heinous beyond measure, with an extremely negative impact!”
Xie said fiercely.
Zhang Feng shrugged, his expression one of helplessness.
“Deputy Xie, you’re seriously misinformed. You’re spouting nonsense here without knowing the truth, trying to condemn an innocent man!”
His tone sharpened; such a person deserved no respect.
“What did you say?!” Xie’s eyes bloodshot, glaring.
“Unfortunately, those people were not civilians.”
Zhang Feng gestured outward, and one of his team members entered carrying dozens of files.
As the documents were spread open, dozens of upper-body photos came into view.
Each depicted a vicious, ferocious-looking individual.
All were utterly ruthless fiends!
