Chapter Forty-Two: I Have an Appointment Tonight!
General Qin?
This man is a general?!
“That’s impossible!”
With just that sentence from Wei Dingguo, everyone present trembled, stunned into silence.
No one would believe it.
Yet none could deny it!
Wei Dingguo held the rank of colonel, revered by thousands, a man even Chu Shanhe respected.
Such a soldier was now standing respectfully before the much younger Qin Mu, saluting.
Unless Qin Mu’s true identity was extraordinary, why would he do such a thing?
Lin Qingxue, Lin Zhengxing, and the others’ minds were utterly blank.
Lin Peipei, dazed, tilted her small head to gaze at this handsome, commanding young man.
Was she really sitting on a general’s lap?!
Lin Peipei’s cheeks flushed hot with embarrassment; she hurried to stand and apologize for her boldness, though excitement made her reluctant to leave.
“He can’t possibly be a general!” Chu Lingyun screamed in collapse.
Chu Lingyun was the one who could least accept this reality.
Even if Wumu’s identity was revealed, Chu Lingyun only assumed Qin Mu came from the military, perhaps the descendant of some illustrious figure.
That way, Chu Lingyun just had to swallow his pride for now.
He was confident that within ten years, he could catch up, and without relying on his family’s status, would crush Qin Mu beneath his feet.
But the young man before him was a true general, a legend born from the war zone.
Even if the Chu family extended its lineage for generations, they might never match his brilliance!
Thinking this, Chu Lingyun’s face turned ashen, and he collapsed to the floor, all arrogance gone.
“General Qin, how can you be here?” Wei Dingguo exclaimed, as if in a dream.
Connecting the Northwest War Zone and the Ministry of Defense, Wei Dingguo instantly thought of Qin Mu.
This was the man who, in ten years, fought his way from the lowest rank to the border battlefields, earning unparalleled merit, and finally authorized by the highest figures in the land to hold the rank of general—a legend.
Within the military, none failed to admire him, none failed to aspire to his greatness!
Wei Dingguo could hardly believe that he could witness the military legend in person.
“You claim my men acted recklessly, oppressing civilians?” Qin Mu asked thoughtfully.
“I—I jumped to conclusions without understanding the situation, disgracing the military’s honor!” Wei Dingguo immediately reflected.
He was not about to joke; this man himself had come to settle accounts.
Could the reason be so simple?
“Do you have any ties with the Chu family?” Qin Mu asked.
“Not much. I was recently transferred back to the Southern Military District, only entrusted by the Chu family to come. I don’t know what they did before.” Wei Dingguo dared not lie, reporting truthfully.
Thinking back, he vaguely heard Qin Mu questioning about an incident twenty years ago.
Fortunately, he hadn’t been involved.
Otherwise, even his colonel’s rank might not be secure.
“Your Chu family can reap what it has sown!”
Wei Dingguo consciously stood behind Qin Mu, falling silent.
Chu Shanhe watched in despair; his powerful ally, whom he had spent a fortune to secure, had instantly switched sides, and for reasons he could not refuse.
“I—I…”
Chu Shanhe fell to his knees with a thud.
Liu Zhen, Li Bao, and the others followed, kneeling and repeatedly apologizing to the Lin family.
The first to arrive and stir trouble, Fang Sheng and Fang Peng, father and son, now trembled in terror, knelt down and banged their heads on the floor.
“President Lin, it was my fault! I deserve to die a thousand deaths! I must have been possessed!”
“My son acted rashly; it wasn’t intentional!”
Lin Zhengxing was unmoved, coldly replying, “Hmph! Fang Sheng, for twenty years you’ve wronged my Lin family. Do you think a few words can gloss over it?”
“And what you did just now to me and Sister Lin—wasn’t that intentional?!” Lin Peipei seized the chance to jump off Qin Mu’s lap, glaring fiercely, full of indignation.
With Qin Mu backing her, the little girl’s words grew bold.
“Just now, we settled the debt. All the land, businesses, and connections you took from the Lin family over the years must be returned tenfold.” Qin Mu said.
“Yes,” Wumu replied.
“General Qin, what about the Chu family?” Wei Dingguo asked.
“Make the father and son kneel outside for three days and nights, then bury Chu Lingyun alive.”
Qin Mu had vowed that those who caused his mother’s death would all pay with their lives.
“…Yes!” Wei Dingguo nodded heavily.
A general’s word weighs as much as a thousand pounds!
Upon hearing this, Chu Lingyun collapsed to the floor, his soul shattered.
Chu Shanhe, too, was broken; recalling his past deeds, he was filled with regret.
Qin Mu glanced at the time; it was almost up.
“Mr. Lin, I won’t stay any longer.”
“Good, good.” Lin Zhengxing quickly got up. When he first received the news, he had no idea this was a peerless, incomparable general.
‘You endured humiliation and injustice to protect this young master, and in the end, he has not let you down!’
Thinking this, Lin Zhengxing breathed a sigh of relief, preparing to see Qin Mu off.
“Brother Qin, will I be able to see you again?” Lin Peipei, seeing Qin Mu about to leave, hurried after him.
Cheerful and always straightforward, she blurted out her feelings.
“Peipei, mind your manners!” Lin Qingxue warned quickly.
“It’s fine.”
Qin Mu replied calmly, bending slightly to hand Lin Peipei a slip of paper.
“If you ever need me, come find me.”
With that, Qin Mu gently ruffled Lin Peipei’s not-so-long silky hair, then turned and walked away.
