It was not just fully armed troops and military vehicles. Not far beyond, Sister Tao vaguely made out the shapes of tactical tanks and armed helicopters! Even more frightening was the sight of these forces spreading out, encircling the dilapidated warehouse, yet halting several hundred meters away, falling into formation and holding their positions in strict vigilance, not advancing any closer. It was as if they were waiting for someone's command.

“What… what is happening?”
“Where did all these soldiers come from?!”
Sister Tao could hardly form words, her eyes dazzled by the vast sea of soldiers before her, her legs trembling uncontrollably.

“Sister Tao, didn’t you say it would take at least dozens of hours for anyone to find this place…” someone stammered, their whole body shaking with fear, barely able to squeeze out the sentence.

Sister Tao was not much better herself, drenched in cold sweat and unable to move. She had made such claims based on the assumption that only the police would be searching. After all, how many police officers were there in the whole of River City? To find this warehouse hidden in the wilderness was as futile as fishing for a needle in the ocean.

But these were not the police.

This was the real army!

“Could… could that wretched girl have military backing?” Sister Tao stared in disbelief at Luo Shui, who lay motionless on the ground.

Impossible! She had investigated—Luo Shui had no connection to the military whatsoever.

As Sister Tao reeled in confusion—

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A deafening crash erupted from the warehouse doors, locked tightly with iron chains and bars. In the next instant, the entire metal door caved in, torn asunder, flying across more than ten meters and landing directly in front of Sister Tao with a tremendous clatter.

“Ah!”
Sister Tao cried out in terror, falling backward onto the ground.

She struggled to lift her head, looking toward the now empty doorframe. Illuminated by the glaring floodlights of countless military vehicles, a dark silhouette stood framed in the doorway.

Then, all those so-called international bodyguards—men who claimed to take on ten foes apiece—were tossed inside like worthless trash.

Sister Tao fixed her gaze and saw that their arms and legs had been broken and twisted at impossible angles, shattered completely.

Before she could even react, the dark figure at the door resolved into a cold-faced young man. He strode forward briskly, each step from his military boots echoing with a chilling clarity on the floor, sending shivers up Sister Tao’s spine.

The young man’s stride was heavy as he walked straight to Luo Shui’s side. In the dim flicker of firelight, Sister Tao peered at him, barely able to make out his features.

Sword-like brows. Star-bright eyes. An air as lofty as the clouds.

The young man knelt on one knee, lowering himself gently. With both hands, he tenderly gathered the unconscious, frostbitten Luo Shui into his arms. At the mere touch, Qin Mu felt a chill as if his hands had plunged into an ice cellar.

“I’m sorry I was late.”
Qin Mu took off his greatcoat and wrapped it around Luo Shui, giving her whatever warmth he could.

Without another word, his expression unchanging, he turned his back and walked toward the door.

“You—you dare to take her away! Do you know who she has offended?”
Maybe Sister Tao was too frightened to think straight, unable to connect the young man before her with the military outside.

Before Qin Mu could speak, a man as solid as a mountain charged in.

“General, how shall we deal with these people?”

At these words, Sister Tao and the others were stunned.

G-General?!
This young man… was a general?!

Impossible!
None of them could believe it.

They were only dealing with a celebrity—a star who could be discarded at any moment by her agency if she lost favor. How could they possibly have provoked a living national general?

“Take them all back to headquarters for strict interrogation. Find out who gave the orders behind them.”
“If you can’t find the one responsible, I’ll hold you personally accountable!”

“Understood! It will be done!”
Wu Mu nodded firmly. He had rarely seen Qin Mu so enraged. So much so that, in his fury, he had mobilized the entire Southern Military District.

From the lowest private to the highest-ranking officers—not one was left unmobilized.

Hearing Qin Mu’s order, Sister Tao collapsed to the ground completely, her eyes void of hope. For what she had done today, once she entered military custody, she would suffer punishment a thousand, ten thousand times worse than what Luo Shui had endured.

Qin Mu cradled Luo Shui against his chest, offering her the warmth of his own body as she shivered, still icy to the touch.

Wu Mu followed closely behind.

When they reached the troops several hundred meters away, a major general, bearing a single star on his shoulder, glanced once before hurriedly bowing his head and closing his eyes, his voice ringing out with authority.

“Everyone, eyes closed! Anyone who dares to look will be court-martialed!”

There was barely a need for his command. Every soldier had already shut their eyes tightly, not daring to steal a glance at the beauty in Qin Mu’s arms.

“Thank you for your trouble.” Qin Mu said as he passed by the major general.

Eyes still closed, the major general snapped to attention and reported in a loud voice, “General Qin, this incident happened under my watch. I am fully responsible! Please punish me!”

“Please punish us!”
“Please punish us!”
The entire force echoed in thunderous response.

Such an incident occurring on their territory was their responsibility.
All the more so when the victim was the beloved of a three-star general.

As for the one pulling the strings behind the scenes—
