Chapter 114: Do You Even Deserve the Title of Doctor?
After forcing the woman who had caused a disturbance outside White Emperor City to reveal the truth, Qin Mu had followed the clues all the way there.
At first, he had merely wanted to see who was bold enough to target White Emperor City.
He had never expected to uncover the filthy deed committed by the Xie family.
Qin Mu stood before the crowd, his gaze sweeping over everyone present.
“What does it have to do with you? You consider yourself superior to others, so you brazenly harvest their organs for your own use, and you call that none of my business?”
Wu Mu spoke coldly.
He had rarely encountered someone so utterly convinced that the world revolved around her.
Zhang Shuhua turned her head indifferently and said coldly, “I only said that in a moment of anger. So what? Do you have any evidence?”
“And besides, who do you think you are? You trespassed into a private residence and assaulted people. Who gave you the nerve?”
Pointing at Qin Mu and Wu Mu, Zhang Shuhua cursed furiously.
Through the crack in the door, one could see the Xie family’s bodyguards outside, along with the nurses and doctors summoned by Shen Qingliu. Every one of them had been knocked to the ground, writhing in pain.
“You dare beat people in the Xie family residence? Are you tired of living?”
“I will report this to the city authorities. Even Fu Yuantao won’t be able to protect you!” Xie Donglin shouted.
He had been worrying that he lacked a reason to arrest Qin Mu, but now the man had acted so recklessly, actually assaulting people in the Xie family’s own home.
Did Qin Mu really think he could cover the sky with one hand and place himself above the law?
Yet Qin Mu did not even bother responding to Xie Donglin. Instead, he looked at Zhang Shuhua and asked sidelong,
“The information I obtained suggests that during these years of illness, you received organs from more than one person.”
Zhang Shuhua’s face instantly turned pale. She hurriedly looked toward Shen Qingliu.
Such secret matters had always been handled with extreme care. Every time, she had made Shen Qingliu erase all the records and had paid him a sufficient hush fee. How had Qin Mu managed to uncover them?
Zhang Shuhua’s illness was exceedingly strange. Every transplant appeared successful, yet after a period of time, the organ would fail again, forcing her to find another suitable match.
“The organs Mrs. Xie received were all obtained through legitimate channels,” Shen Qingliu said as he rose to his feet. “Don’t stand there spouting nonsense and making baseless accusations!”
The collision had truly injured him. His face was swollen and bruised, and one lens of the glasses perched on his nose had been shattered.
Only then did Qin Mu raise an eyebrow and turn his gaze toward him.
“Shen Qingliu, is it?”
“That’s right.” Shen Qingliu straightened his back and thrust out his chest.
He was immensely confident in his reputation.
Throughout Jiangcheng, whenever a prominent figure suffered a serious illness and needed surgery, Shen Qingliu was the physician they called. With a single word from him, countless influential people would show him respect.
Thus, even when facing Qin Mu, Shen Qingliu did not believe he had anything to fear.
“I advise you to admit your mistake at once, offer Mrs. Xie and me a sincere apology, and compensate us—”
Shen Qingliu had not yet regained his balance when Qin Mu interrupted him.
“When you say ‘legitimate channels,’ do you mean using money and power to force people into submission, abducting anyone who refuses, and then silencing them forever?”
Qin Mu took a file from Wu Mu.
“The first victim was a twenty-eight-year-old woman in the prime of her youth. You offered her one hundred thousand for her liver. When she refused, you sent men to kidnap her in the dead of night and forcibly remove the organ. You never sent her to a hospital, and she died from blood loss.”
“Afterward, you even laughed through the night, pleased that you had saved yourself some money. Isn’t that right?”
Qin Mu’s voice was cold and devoid of emotion, yet his words made Zhang Shuhua feel as though she were standing at the edge of an icy abyss. Her hands and feet stiffened, and she could not take a single step.
“The second victim was twenty-seven, a girl who dreamed of shining beneath the lights of a magnificent stage. You offered fifty thousand for her bone marrow. When she refused, you had someone kidnap her and take compromising photographs, then used them to threaten her.”
“Afterward, fearing that she would report you, you made the photographs public. You destroyed her entire life and drove her to leap from a building at the age of twenty-seven.”
“She should have lived a life bright with starlight.”
Qin Mu shook his head, his expression tinged with regret.
“After that case, you discovered that the younger the organ, the longer it could sustain your life. From then on, you grew increasingly brazen, and the people you targeted became younger and younger.”
“The third victim was twenty-five, an outstanding student who had graduated from Beiyan University and was determined to pursue a doctorate.”
“The fourth was twenty-four, a young man who wanted to enlist and defend the nation’s borders.”
“The fifth was twenty-three…”
“The sixth…”
Qin Mu continued reading, one case after another. Every sentence made Zhang Shuhua and the members of the Xie family tremble with terror.
These were all vile deeds that could never be allowed to come to light.
“The thirteenth victim was seventeen, a girl from a poor family. You hired her and told her relatives that she was coming to work. In truth, you had already set your sights on her heart. You even prepared a letter to her family, intending to tell her parents afterward that she had died suddenly of heart disease.”
Qin Mu’s voice rang out clearly, every word striking with the force of iron.
“These are the things Zhang Shuhua has done over the years. Why don’t you help me identify which one of them was obtained through legitimate channels?”
With a cold shout, Qin Mu slapped the stack of papers in his hand against Shen Qingliu’s face. The blow left him grimacing in pain, as though he had just been struck across the face.
“Madam, is—is this true?” the maid stammered, stunned by what Qin Mu had revealed.
She had been raised in a simple village and had never imagined that such things could happen.
“What right does a lowly servant like you have to speak here? Shut your mouth!”
Zhang Shuhua was already being crushed beneath Qin Mu’s pressure, her anger building into a raging fire. The maid’s question gave her an outlet for it.
She immediately swung her cane, the veins bulging across her forehead, and brought it down toward the maid’s neck.
She did not even care if she killed the girl. In fact, killing her would be all the better.
But just as the cane was about to fall, a dark blur moved beside Qin Mu. In the blink of an eye, Wu Mu was at Zhang Shuhua’s side. His palm descended like a blade, striking the solid-wood cane and splitting it cleanly in two.
Then Wu Mu spun around and slapped Zhang Shuhua hard across the face.
Smack!
“You still dare throw your weight around?”
Wu Mu glared at her, looking as though he wished to chase after her and deliver another slap.
Judging from how accustomed Zhang Shuhua seemed to such cruelty, she had likely beaten this seventeen-year-old girl far more often—and far more viciously—in the past.
Even through the girl’s sleeves, Wu Mu could see that her body was covered in bruises and scars.
But Xie Donglin, standing nearby, was incandescent with rage. He pointed at Qin Mu and cursed, “You dare assault the mother of a deputy official in public? You have no regard for law or authority! If I don’t have you killed this time, I’ll renounce the Xie name!”
Qin Mu merely let out a cold laugh.
“You seem to have forgotten how I mangled your face in White Emperor City.”
The words left Xie Donglin speechless.
Qin Mu had even beaten him, a deputy official. Why would he hesitate to strike his mother?
“My mother is only in her fifties,” Xie Tingting argued desperately, trying to recover the upper hand. “As an old woman, she only wanted to survive. What did she do wrong?”
