Chapter Seventy-Six: The Malicious Child!
“You… you’re that famous celebrity from TV—Luo Shui?!”
“The nation’s goddess, Luo Shui?”
Even Jiang Hongzhi and Jiang Zhengde stood up at once, eyes fixed intently on Luo Shui.
Her beauty was so captivating, so utterly dazzling, that the Jiang family could only stare in awe, as if beholding a fairy descended to earth. Every woman in her presence seemed to fade into shadow.
As for Fang Tong, who had been so lively just moments before, she had already vanished the instant she saw Luo Shui, not daring to compete for attention.
Qin Mu tilted his head slightly in surprise. So, his girl was this famous?
He had always assumed Luo Shui was, at best, a second or third-tier actress—never expecting that even his father’s generation would know her name.
Luo Shui glanced at him from time to time, her eyes full of meaning: “Didn’t I tell you? Bringing me home would make you proud. See, I wasn’t lying.”
Then she turned, smiling at the elders upstairs. “Hello, uncles and aunties. I’m Qin Mu’s girlfriend. I wonder who it was just now who said my Qin Mu couldn’t possibly find a girlfriend?”
One had to admit—Luo Shui was fiercely protective. Anyone who dared to belittle her beloved fool would find her quick to retaliate.
“We were just joking around—why take it so seriously?” Han Ying said sourly.
“But as your elder, there’s something I must warn you about. Qin Mu is no catch. He may look clean-cut, but his family is nothing special—practically penniless. He won’t even be able to afford the bride price when the time comes.”
“You youngsters can fool around if you want, but don’t go making any lifelong commitments. If your family is pressuring you to marry, I can introduce you to much better men—far superior to the one at your side.”
Though Han Ying spoke with a show of kindness, inside she was thinking: such a stunning girl belongs with my outstanding Jiang Tao. What a waste to pair her with this nobody!
She waved her hands dismissively, feigning concern.
“I’ve never seen a relative so eager to urge someone to break up before even exchanging a few words.”
This remark made Han Ying’s face flush an ugly shade. She retorted anxiously, “You! I’m only looking out for you! I don’t want you to be blinded by Qin Mu and ruin your future!”
“My Uncle Jiang and Aunt Qiu adore me—who are you to play the caring elder here?” Luo Shui’s words were sharp as blades, making Han Ying cough in embarrassment before she could reply. Luo Shui pointed outside, her smile undiminished.
“Besides, with your failing eyesight, can you even see what car is parked outside?”
Han Ying, stung by the jab, hurried to the window, craning her neck to look.
“It looks pretty ordinary—probably worth less than a hundred thousand. Suits someone like him.”
No sooner had she spoken than Jiang Tao urgently grabbed her arm.
“What is it? Am I wrong? With taste that poor, that car must be designed for broke, hopeless types like him,” Han Ying said, standing her ground.
Jiang Tao’s expression was grim. He whispered, “Mom, stop talking. That’s a Bugatti Veyron—the starting price is twenty million.”
“What?!”
“Twenty million?!”
His words sent a shock through the crowd, who had been watching idly before.
Jiang Hongzhi’s eyes widened as he gazed at the Bugatti Veyron outside, his heart full of envy and jealousy.
Compared to this globally limited supercar, their own vehicles—each worth a mere million or so—were nothing.
Even if they combined every car in the Jiang household, it might not amount to half the value of that Bugatti Veyron.
“That… it must be a rental. Just for show,” Han Ying insisted, refusing to concede.
Jiang Tao was too mortified to respond further.
This was no small, obscure brand—it was the illustrious Bugatti Veyron!
Only a few hundred were made each year, and it was impossible to rent one.
Jiang Zheng, listening from the side, felt deeply satisfied. Han Ying’s mouth was always busy, currying favor with the powerful and trampling on those beneath her. She could never stand to see others do better.
In the few days Jiang Zheng had been here, Han Ying had come by every so often, making snide remarks and mocking her branch of the family.
“I’m your elder. I only say these things for your own good. Haven’t your parents taught you to respect your elders? Such poor manners!” Han Ying spat furiously, playing the victim.
Yet Luo Shui remained unruffled, lifting her chin and replying with poise, “And all you’ve learned through the decades is to lord your age over others and speak in sarcasm?”
“Half a lifetime, and you’ve wasted it all.”
Han Ying nearly choked on her own rage.
“You! You—!”
“Other people’s elders offer blessings to young couples. Only in your family do they spew venom and hope for others to break up. What sort of heart do you have, to be so malicious?” Luo Shui pressed on relentlessly, determined to render Han Ying speechless.
How dare she insult her beloved Qin Mu?
Han Ying staggered back, coughing violently, her face ashen, nearly undone by Luo Shui’s words.
“All right, all right, let’s calm down. It’s a holiday, after all,”
Old Master Jiang said awkwardly, but in the end, it was Grandma Jiang who stepped forward to smooth things over.
