Chapter Eighty-Eight: The Ambush!
Is that your house?
Duwei thought it over carefully. That address did not seem to be the one registered under Luoshui’s name.
He had simply followed the sound and gone straight to that door.
Then why had Luoshui appeared in another man’s house?
“Heh. Looks like I was right after all. Seems I do not even need to go looking for anyone—you already have one of your own here!”
“Miss Luoshui, you are so lucky. Now a wealthy businessman has come to stand up for you.”
Qiu Xuan’s words dripped with sarcasm.
But before she could even feel smug for two seconds, the warrior behind Qin Mu, Wu Mu, strode forward. Raising a massive hand, he slapped Qiu Xuan across the face.
A sharp crack rang out.
The blow sent Qiu Xuan sprawling to the floor, and her carefully altered face was knocked crooked to one side.
“You! How dare you hit me!” Qiu Xuan shouted from the ground, her face flushed red, her eyes bloodshot with fury.
But Wu Mu looked down at her, and a mountain-like pressure crashed over her at once, forcing the curse in her throat to choke off before it could come out.
“Your face is coated in plaster dust. You’ve made my hand dirty,” Wu Mu said coldly, brushing the makeup powder off his palm in disgust.
This...
Everyone had seen Wu Mu strike.
Hit someone the moment he walked in?
A show of force?
Only Luoshui, upon seeing Qin Mu, lit up with delight.
Thank goodness he had arrived in time. Otherwise, who knew what sort of outrageous things that shameless crowd might have done?
“I don’t care who you are. What do you mean by hitting someone in our office?” Zhang Hong rose to her feet and demanded of Qin Mu.
Qin Mu lifted his chin, glanced at Zhang Hong, and casually pulled a sheet of paper from the table to compare it against the information on it.
“Zhang Hong?”
“So what if it is?” Zhang Hong froze.
“Since becoming an agent, you have taken money from no fewer than fifty male entertainers, arranged overlapping schedules for the female artists under you, and conducted over a hundred transactions with several dealers of sedatives.”
“You—what nonsense are you talking about!”
At Qin Mu’s words, Zhang Hong’s heart lurched.
She had indeed taken money from Han Ziyu, and often tried to drug Luoshui.
But that girl was too clever for her own good, never drinking water handed to her by others, which was why she had never once succeeded.
“Stop putting on that ghostly act here. This is the conference room of Radiant Film and Entertainment. Outsiders, get out at once!” Seeing that she could not outdo Wu Mu, Qiu Xuan turned her ire toward the quietly seated Qin Mu.
“Qiu Xuan, a female star who has risen to fame recently, planning to climb over Luoshui to get ahead, are you not?”
Qin Mu pulled out another sheet of paper and tossed it casually before Qiu Xuan.
“You made the right choice by getting cosmetic surgery.”
On that A4 sheet was a clearly printed before-and-after photo of Qiu Xuan.
The woman in the picture was hideous beyond words, her features twisted together like a knotted braid. One could only imagine how much effort it had taken to turn her into the person she was now.
“Where did you—”
Qiu Xuan had barely started the question when Qin Mu went on without pause.
“After your debut, in order to rise, you slept your way through dozens of wealthy and powerful men in River City. You became pregnant three times and had three abortions.”
“I imagine that what you just said to Luoshui was really a description of yourself, was it not?”
This woman had trampled on Luoshui time and again, and even wanted to use Luoshui as a sacrifice so she herself could be elevated into River City’s hottest star.
To someone like that, Qin Mu felt nothing but contempt.
“Who exactly are you? Why have I never heard of someone like you in River City?”
“How dare you be this arrogant on our turf? Believe me, when Brother Ziyu gets back, he will deal with you properly!” Qiu Xuan snapped.
“Do you know who it was that made the Han Ziyu you speak of kneel down and apologize?” Wu Mu said with a cold laugh.
At that, Qiu Xuan stood frozen in place.
Not knowing what else to ask, Du Wei said in a deep voice, “What exactly are you here for?”
He could tell that the newcomers meant no good, and that they had even prepared all these materials in order to confront them head-on.
He was afraid that every scandal involving the artists under his company was already in Qin Mu’s hands.
Qin Mu said, “I think a company like yours, one that cannot tell right from wrong and twists black into white, has no reason to keep operating.”
“Just the few people you brought, and these scraps of unknown origin, and you think you can bring down our Radiant Film and Entertainment?”
“Do you take the empire our film and television business has built over decades for a house of paper?”
Du Wei spoke with domineering force, hammering the table again and again, determined to overpower Qin Mu.
But his arrogance lasted less than half a minute.
One after another, the men who had come with Qin Mu stepped forward in quick succession, until they stood before Du Wei and handed him their business cards.
“River City Chamber of Commerce, Pu Wenshan.”
“River City Economic Administration, Huang Cheng.”
“River City Resource Management Department...”
“Banking Regulatory Commission, River City director, Jiang Jun.”
A string of business cards was handed over one after another. Every one of them carried such authority and weight that it was enough to make Du Wei, and indeed everyone present, tremble in shock.
These were some of River City’s most powerful figures in management, men whose word was law.
Especially the last one, the director of the Banking Regulatory Commission.
