Chapter 13: Veiled Faces (Second Update)
Hua Tianyu went alone to find Lin Lin, leaving Tian Li behind to wrap up the affairs at Star Whisper Bar. After all, someone needed to take charge, and Xia Yang was certainly not up to the task.
With the address Tian Li had given him, Hua Tianyu now stood in front of the entrance to the female dormitory at Shangjiang College.
Yes, the female dormitory at Shangjiang College!
He hadn’t known where Lin Lin was before; he could have waited another day. But now that he knew, he was determined to fulfill his promise to Bear.
Yet, he found himself helpless—not blocked by mountains or seas of fire, but by a fifty-something dormitory manager.
The woman was eyeing him warily.
“Ma’am, I’d like to find someone,” Hua Tianyu said.
She gave a noncommittal grunt, saying nothing, continuing to watch him. The atmosphere was awkward.
“Can I go up?” he asked cautiously.
She remained expressionless. “Are you a woman?”
A twitch crossed Hua Tianyu’s face. “Ma’am, I’m a man. Have you ever seen a woman as handsome as me?”
The woman scrutinized him for a moment, then broke into a smile. “You are rather handsome, young man!”
He couldn’t help but give her a thumbs up. “Ma’am, you have a discerning eye!”
The next instant, her face changed. “This is a girls’ dormitory—the more handsome, the more dangerous! You’re a ticking time bomb; I absolutely can’t let you in! Go, quickly! Go far away!”
“Ma’am—”
“Go!”
Hua Tianyu drew in a sharp breath. For the first time, his looks were getting in the way of communication.
As a dignified king of soldiers, he found entering the girls’ dormitory at Shangjiang College more difficult than infiltrating the Eagle Nation’s presidential palace.
He knew the woman was just an ordinary person, simply doing her duty. He couldn’t just punch his way in; he had principles.
He was a king of soldiers, yes, but he was also a soldier of China. Chinese soldiers shed blood and sweat to protect China, to safeguard peace. And what is peace made of? It is composed of millions of ordinary Chinese people.
Still, he had to meet Lin Lin. He couldn’t let down his comrade’s request.
What should he do?
Fortunately, Lin Lin’s dormitory was on the second floor, room 208. Counting to the eighth window, he found it open. Stepping back a few paces, he made a quick run-up, braced his hands against the windowsill of the ground floor, and vaulted through the second-floor window.
As soon as he entered, Hua Tianyu was startled by the familiar scent of disinfectant, unfamiliar layout, and individual stalls. This wasn’t a dormitory at all...
It was the women’s restroom!
Where was 208? Weren’t restrooms supposed to be at the ends of the hall, not in the middle?
Designer, come out and face me—I promise not to beat you to death...
Silently, Hua Tianyu pulled a mask from his pocket and put it on.
Once, a friend had asked him: If you suddenly appeared stark naked in a bustling street, with only a small piece of cloth that could cover your left chest but not your right, what should you cover?
The answer: Cover your face! Only then will no one recognize you.
Hua Tianyu agreed wholeheartedly, so now he covered his face.
Of course, he was covering his face because he cared about his reputation; otherwise, if he met someone here, his dignity would be lost.
Just as he was about to leave quickly, a slightly anxious voice came from one of the closed stalls: “Tian Wen, is that you? Hurry up and give me some paper.”
Hua Tianyu hesitated, then took a pack of tissues from his pocket and tossed it in.
The tissues fell onto Liu Hui’s head. “Ouch, not Liu Wen? Who are you? Thanks!”
Hua Tianyu paused for two seconds. “Fahai?” Then he strode out of the women’s restroom, leaving his deeds and name behind.
Liu Hui: “...”
Room 208 was next door, its door closed.
He knocked twice. A voice from inside asked, “Who is it?”
Hua Tianyu thought for a moment and replied, “I’m looking for Lin Lin. I’m a friend of Lin Luohua.”
Lin Luohua was Bear’s real name.
“No entry!” came a forbidding voice from within.
No entry?
Hua Tianyu was stunned, but, thinking about it, wasn’t too surprised. Bear hadn’t been around for years, only sending money home; his wife was gone. It was natural that there’d be some estrangement between father and daughter.
Such estrangement could be resolved—he, Hua Tianyu, could mediate. So, he twisted the doorknob and walked in. “Lin Lin, I—”
A girl was holding her underwear behind the door, two snowy rabbits bouncing on her chest...
Their eyes met.
Hua Tianyu’s words stuck in his throat; he felt a rush of blood in his nose he could barely control.
He tore off his mask and handed it to the girl opposite, oh, to the owner of the snowy rabbits. “Here.”
“What for?”
“To cover your face,” Hua Tianyu replied with perfect logic.
The girl smiled sweetly. Her refined features and skin fairer than snow dazzled Hua Tianyu.
She playfully winked, darted aside, and a boot came flying at him. Hua Tianyu quickly retreated out the door, wiping the crimson blood from his nose. Why did it come to blows so quickly? Couldn’t they just talk?
With a thud, the boot crashed against the door.
Hua Tianyu was helpless. What a misunderstanding! He really only wanted to bridge the gap between Lin Lin and her father, that’s why he went straight in...
In the corridor, a girl with a ponytail bounced past him, glanced at him curiously, then after a few steps, doubled back and asked uncertainly, “Fahai?”
Hua Tianyu: “...”
Five minutes later, Hua Tianyu entered room 208 again and met the two girls inside.
The one who had thrown the boot earlier, whose bed was strewn with several novels from the Women’s Creation Literature genre, was Lin Lin.
The girl who had made Hua Tianyu’s nose bleed behind the door, whose bed was adorned with cartoon underwear and snowy rabbits, was Mei Yanyu.
Lin Lin probably inherited her father’s tall genes; she was about 170 centimeters, her long legs almost defying belief, and her face was jade-like, breathtakingly beautiful, with not a trace of Bear’s ruggedness.
Except... what was with that seven-colored rainbow hair?
Lin Lin, how long was your hair exposed to a prism?
Mei Yanyu sat by the bedside, swinging her slender, lotus-white legs, radiating a lively, mischievous spirit. The snowy rabbits followed the rhythm of her legs, swaying gently.
Most importantly—her hair was black!
Hua Tianyu took a deep breath. What is a generation gap? This is a generation gap! Between him and Lin Lin was a seven-colored gap.
He steadied himself from the emotional turbulence caused by rainbow hair and snowy rabbits, pointed to the study materials on the desk, and asked Lin Lin, “Failed your elective? The retake is tomorrow?”
