Chapter 24 Grand Guard Security Company
“It’s Zheng Maoshi,” Chai Peng answered honestly.
“Good. The three of us, plus Zheng Maoxue, will go together to Swan International Group,” Rong Xinyuan said calmly.
The trio from Hongwei Security Company soon found themselves seated in the conference room of the Swan Group.
Chai Peng and Zheng Maoshi chatted casually, while Rong Xinyuan surveyed the room with an expressionless gaze.
Wei Xueying swept into the room, her secretary following close behind. After a while, Hua Tianyu entered at his own leisurely pace and took a seat.
Chai Peng smiled broadly at Wei Xueying. “Did you call us here today because Swan Group has a new project for us?”
Wei Xueying shook her head and signaled to her secretary, who proceeded to recount in detail the events of the previous night.
As soon as the secretary finished, Zheng Maoshi spoke up, “It’s very unfortunate that such an incident occurred in your company last night, but there is no issue with the surveillance cameras we designed and installed.”
“Your cameras failed to record any footage during the incident. Isn’t that a problem?” Wei Xueying asked coldly.
“Ha, of course not,” Zheng Maoshi replied with a dismissive laugh. “The server for the cameras was undergoing routine restart—how is that our concern?”
“All electronic devices require periodic restarts after prolonged use, just as your phone needs to be restarted from time to time,” Rong Xinyuan added.
“Can your phone take photos or videos while it’s restarting?” Zheng Maoshi asked triumphantly.
He felt no pressure at all; across from him sat a female CEO and her secretary—two ornamental figures, in his view, who knew nothing of technology. Then there was a man with a careless air, likely someone who had gotten his position through connections, and certainly not versed in security systems.
His analogy was perfect! Can anyone record video with a phone during a restart? No one can.
He himself couldn’t, and with this argument, he believed he had silenced all doubts.
Rong Xinyuan even looked at him with newfound respect, a hint of approval in his gaze.
“Really, I can’t fathom how your company ever became a professional security firm,” a mocking male voice suddenly interjected. Hua Tianyu sat in his chair, regarding the three with an expression as if they were fools.
“You are…?” Zheng Maoshi looked at Hua Tianyu with a darkened expression; he had never met this man—their previous dealings were always with Cheng Feng.
“He’s our Security Department…” Wei Xueying began to introduce Hua Tianyu’s new role, only to be interrupted by Hua Tianyu’s wave.
“Security guard,” Hua Tianyu raised his eyebrows and finished for her.
“What? Security guard?” Zheng Maoshi laughed instead of growing angry. “Heh, the matters we’re discussing have nothing to do with a mere security guard, do they?”
“Would you kindly return to your post at the door?” Chai Peng pointed outside and addressed Hua Tianyu.
“Oh, I’m thirsty, so I came in for some water. Please, carry on,” Hua Tianyu smiled, raising his teacup in a gesture.
“Ms. Wei, we’re holding a meeting here—having this security guard interject seems inappropriate, doesn’t it?” Zheng Maoshi said to Wei Xueying in a sarcastic tone.
Wei Xueying shot Hua Tianyu a glare; she had no idea what he planned next. Since Hua Tianyu said nothing further, she turned to Zheng Maoshi and said, “Ignore him, let’s continue.”
“Alright, then I’ll proceed. As I explained, server restarts are necessary, and during those times, surveillance cannot record. So regarding last night’s unfortunate coincidence, we can only express our deep regrets.” Though he spoke of regret, a trace of satisfaction glimmered in his eyes—he was proud of how deftly he’d shifted the blame.
Though the project indeed had issues, and he knew exactly what they were, this was a secret between him and Cheng Feng—a secret worth tens of thousands, known only to them and the heavens.
Such secrets could not be revealed lightly. Now, with this perfect opportunity to avoid responsibility, he would do so cleanly.
That man was just a security guard—no threat to him.
What could a security guard possibly know? Had he even finished middle school?
He, Zheng Maoshi, was a bona fide university graduate, and Rong Xinyuan beside him was rumored to be a doctoral graduate from America, a returnee to China.
If this security guard spoke up again, he’d be silenced within seconds.
At first, Zheng Maoshi worried Rong Xinyuan might expose him, but now it seemed Rong either didn’t understand or simply didn’t intend to meddle.
“Ms. Wei, are you holding a meeting?” Cheng Feng appeared at the doorway, his head wrapped in bandages.
“Perfect!” Zheng Maoshi exulted inwardly.
Cheng Feng was the one he’d secretly notified via WeChat earlier. Now that he had arrived, with the Security Department manager to cover for him, he felt assured nothing would go wrong today.
“Why are you here?” Wei Xueying was surprised; Cheng Feng had been knocked unconscious last night and sent to the hospital.
“Oh, Ms. Wei, I recovered and felt fine. Lying in the hospital bed, I kept worrying about the company, so I hurried back to work,” Cheng Feng replied, his face full of concern for the company.
Wei Xueying nodded. “Just as well, we’re discussing the issue with the surveillance cameras. Join us.”
Cheng Feng agreed, pulled up a chair, and sat down. He glanced at the three from Hongwei Security Company, then suddenly stood, addressing Rong Xinyuan with deference, “Are you Rong Xinyuan?”
Rong Xinyuan smiled faintly and nodded.
“Oh, Senior Rong, let me introduce you properly.” Cheng Feng turned to Wei Xueying. “Ms. Wei, this is Senior Rong Xinyuan, renowned as a leading authority in the security field. I was fortunate to attend one of his lectures during a training course. In the security industry, he’s known by the nickname ‘Security Mount Tai.’”
He then turned to Rong Xinyuan, “Senior Rong, your current position at Hongwei Security Company is…”
“Technical Director,” Rong Xinyuan answered with an air of pride.
He truly carried the nickname ‘Security Mount Tai,’ which was a term of respect given to him in Tianjing. After moving to Shangjiang City, few knew of this title. Now Cheng Feng had brought it up again, and Rong Xinyuan unconsciously straightened his posture, his chest swelling with pride.
As for his move from Tianjing, it was only after Hongwei Security Company offered him triple the salary that he agreed to serve as Technical Director.
Cheng Feng’s eyes lit up at the words ‘Technical Director,’ and he gave a thumbs-up, praising him repeatedly before sitting down again. “So, where were we?”
