Chapter 117: Madman (Add it to your bookshelf so you won't lose it)
"Idiot!" Jia Wenle cursed under his breath. Was he planning to take the turn at full throttle?
Che Peiqing was startled by the constant roar of the engine. Was he really that reckless? Didn't he fear flying off the road?
They weren't the only ones; Lin Lin, sitting in the back, felt her heart leap into her throat. Though she wasn't a regular motorcycle enthusiast, she understood the basic principle of slowing down for a turn. She had never seen anyone accelerate into a corner! Yet, that was exactly what Hua Tianyu seemed to be doing.
As Che Peiqing entered the turn, leaning his bike at a forty-five-degree angle, Hua Tianyu drew nearly parallel. With a sharp "Hold on tight!" from Hua Tianyu, his bike also began to lean. But to Jia Wenle’s horror, the tilt reached sixty, perhaps seventy degrees—Hua Tianyu was nearly parallel to the ground.
*Damn it, he’s going to crash!* The thought flashed instantly through Jia Wenle’s mind. The last rider he’d seen pull a stunt like that had grass growing over his grave already. *Do you think you’re Superman? How do you expect to maintain balance at that angle? You’re courting death, Hua Tianyu—you’re saving me the trouble of finishing you off myself!*
Che Peiqing, riding alongside, was equally shocked. To lean a bike that far into a corner, one had to be either a maniac or a master racer. But whether he was crazy or a genius, this was only the first turn—was it really worth risking his life? At that angle, there was zero room for error. A single mistake, and he’d be visiting his grave by this time next year.
Lin Lin clung tightly to his back, her arms locked around his waist, her body pressed against his as if they were a single unit, also parallel to the ground. She was terrified, her arms instinctively locked with all her might; had it been anyone else, she would have crushed their ribs. With her mind blank, she could offer no reaction other than holding on for dear life.
"Ah!" the girl on the back of Che Peiqing’s bike shrieked. In her experience, she had never seen such a turn; she was convinced Hua Tianyu had already crashed. Her scream was fueled by proximity—if Hua Tianyu wiped out right next to them, they would surely perish as well. Che Peiqing flinched, startled by her cry; fortunately, his own lean wasn't nearly as extreme, or he would have been sent flying.
Only Hua Tianyu remained unaffected by the scream. Just as everyone anticipated the demise of the Jialing, Hua Tianyu surged out of the turn, leading Che Peiqing by a full bike length. Almost simultaneously, all three riders straightened their bikes. Hua Tianyu led, Che Peiqing followed, and Jia Wenle trailed behind. In a single turn, the order had been completely upended. Throughout the maneuver, the roar of Hua Tianyu’s engine had never faltered, while the engines of the other two only regained their full-throated scream once the bikes were upright.
The few who had bet on Hua Tianyu broke into cheers; it was clear that anyone daring to challenge a Yamaha with a Jialing was no amateur. Only Qiu Jinghao remained composed. He didn't care who won; he cared only about what was to come.
Che Peiqing viewed Hua Tianyu as a total lunatic, but encountering such a madman only excited him. He hadn't faced a true rival in Shangjiang City for a long time. Why wouldn't he be thrilled to find such a skilled maniac? He was confident that in the next turn, by pushing his lean just a fraction further and leveraging his bike's superior performance, he would never let Hua Tianyu lead again.
"If you scream again, I’ll break you when we get back!" Che Peiqing roared at his passenger. The next turn would require even greater precision, and he couldn't afford any distractions. The girl nodded, trembling like a cicada in winter, not daring to make a sound.
Jia Wenle, trailing in the rear, was deeply shaken by Hua Tianyu’s successful exit. He had been certain the man would crash, yet Hua Tianyu had not only survived but had pulled ahead. If this continued for a few more turns, he wouldn't even see Hua Tianyu’s taillights. *No, that cannot happen!* If he failed the task he had accepted from Young Master Qiu, he would lose fifty thousand yuan and, worse, offend the powerful Qiu family. In Shangjiang City, that would make life impossible. He had to make his move.
After the first turn, they hit a straightaway of several hundred meters, and Che Peiqing and Jia Wenle slowly closed the distance to within half a bike length. There was no helping it—it was a matter of raw performance. With everyone at maximum RPMs and throttles pinned, the Jialing’s 600cc disadvantage became apparent. It lacked that final bit of top-end speed. In a race, that difference was everything. If not for Hua Tianyu’s perfect cornering, the Jialing would have been left behind by at least three lengths.
They were close now—less than half a length away. Another turn was approaching. Jia Wenle knew this was his only chance; the upcoming sequence of three turns would allow Hua Tianyu to shake him off entirely. During the chase, Jia Wenle had intentionally swapped positions with Che Peiqing, placing himself in the middle to facilitate his plan.
*Hua Tianyu, you chose to walk into the jaws of death! Don't blame me for being ruthless. You stole my woman and offended Young Master Qiu. Coming here to race against us—you truly don't know how to write the word 'death.' This Central First Street in Shangjiang City will be your burial ground! It’s a pity about that girl from Star Language Bar; she’s not a bit less attractive than Tian Li, and she has such stunning legs. At least you'll have a beauty to accompany you in the afterlife. You’re not being treated too poorly, Hua Tianyu!*
