Chapter 108: Tian Li’s Motorcycle (Added to Bookshelf to Avoid Losing Track)
Regarding Wei Jiacheng’s words, Hua Tianyu could only regard them as the elder’s praise. At least Wei, lying on his sickbed, had the keen insight of a sage and discovered a truth that his daughter had yet to realize.
“Thank you, uncle, for your compliment. After spending more time with me, you’ll see that I’m not only handsome but also well-rounded—both talented and virtuous!” Hua Tianyu said with a bright smile.
Wei Xueying shot him a sideways glance but still defended him, “Dad, Hua Tianyu has helped the group a lot, which is why I invited him to be my assistant.”
“Well, that’s good then!” Wei Jiacheng nodded ambiguously.
Hua Tianyu sensed that there was now a mountain called ‘father-in-law’ standing firmly between him and Wei Xueying.
But he wasn’t worried. Mountains? They could be leveled. Ditches? He would fill them in.
After chatting for a while longer, a nurse came in to ask them to leave to let the patient rest.
Wei Xueying reluctantly took her leave, stepping out of the ward and asking Hua Tianyu to see her home.
Since it was already late, the roads were no longer congested. Hua Tianyu quickly took Wei Xueying home and then returned to Golden Sea Floral Garden.
On the days Hua Tianyu didn’t come home for dinner, Lin Lin and Tian Li usually resorted to takeout for their evening meals. By now, they had already eaten and were inspecting Tian Li’s motorcycle in the garage.
Seeing Hua Tianyu return, Tian Li immediately put down the bike and hugged his arm. “This is my motorcycle. You’ll use it tomorrow, right? Make sure you help me win the race!”
Lin Lin, however, was less enthusiastic, wearing a serious expression as she said, “Tian Ge, I’ve never seen Lily’s motorcycle before. When she brought it back today, I took a look. I’m afraid the situation isn’t very promising.”
Hua Tianyu said nothing at first but carried Tian Li on his arm over to the motorcycle.
At first glance, Hua Tianyu was shocked. Could this motorcycle’s appearance be any more ridiculous?
On the front handlebars, there was a windscreen added. Normally, that would be fine, but this one was as tall as a person. What was that about?
Moreover, windscreens should be streamlined to reduce wind resistance and not affect speed. But Tian Li’s was basically a flat panel.
Hua Tianyu thought that the fact this windscreen hadn’t been blown off yet was a testament to its surprisingly solid build.
Next to the knee guard, two vertical bars were added. Hua Tianyu stared at these for a long time but couldn’t figure out their purpose.
Tian Li, noticing his puzzled look, explained, “That’s for holding the skateboard. We still skateboard too.”
“Then what about that curved tail wing attached behind the frame?” Hua Tianyu pointed to the largest and most conspicuous fan-shaped object on the back of the motorcycle.
With the front windscreen and the rear tail wing, the whole motorcycle looked like… well, Hua Tianyu confirmed it—it resembled a goldfish!
“It looks great! Tian Ge, don’t you think this tail wing is super cool and eye-catching?” Tian Li said matter-of-factly.
Cool? Putting aside whether it was actually attractive, having that on your motorcycle—aren’t you afraid of hitting or scraping other vehicles? Plus, that thing would drastically increase your turning radius and seriously affect your speed!
Hua Tianyu smiled helplessly and pointed at the exhaust pipe. “Besides this straight pipe, have you made any other modifications to the power system?”
“No, not really. I’m different from them—I mainly modify the appearance. It’s got to look cool!” Tian Li replied with a cheerful grin.
“If you want to win tomorrow, I’ll have to remove your front windscreen and rear tail wing,” Hua Tianyu said.
“Ah?” Tian Li was reluctant; she had invested quite a bit in those parts.
“Tian Ge, can we negotiate?” She hugged his arm, swaying coquettishly in front of him.
Hua Tianyu pondered for two seconds. “I’m going to take off your rear tail wing and front windscreen.”
Tian Li: “…You just changed the order, you’re still taking them off!”
Lin Lin interjected, “Tian Ge, I’m not talking about her modifications; I mean the performance of this motorcycle!”
“Hmm.” Hua Tianyu nodded. He had noticed earlier that the motorcycle was a domestic Jialing with a 600cc engine.
For a regular motorcycle, 600cc was quite respectable, but for racing, 600cc wasn’t even considered entry-level.
“Tian Ge, my bike’s displacement is a bit small. The other racers have engines over 800cc, and the boss’s bike, Peiqing’s, is apparently 1000cc,” Tian Li shared what she knew.
“That’s why I said it’s not very optimistic! Their bikes have large displacements and modified power systems. I’m a bit worried whether you can win the race tomorrow,” Lin Lin finally voiced her concerns.
Hua Tianyu smiled confidently. “I can win.”
Tian Li instantly cheered, “Yeah! I knew Tian Ge could win!”
Lin Lin remained more measured and asked, “How will you win?”
“Take a lap around Central Street and then I’ll tell you,” Hua Tianyu replied.
This so-called racing association—Hua Tianyu really didn’t take it seriously. In a city like this, a group of small-time hooligans forming some street racing gang—what experts could they possibly be?
They were just braver, willing to push their motorcycles faster. As for skill? That was what they lacked!
But since Tian Li’s future was at stake in this bet, Hua Tianyu decided to be cautious and take a look at the race venue tomorrow.
“So, Tian Ge, shall we go now? I want to sit behind you! And during the race, I want to do the same!” Tian Li’s innate craving for speed flared up when she heard about taking a spin.
“Go where?” Hua Tianyu patted her on the backside. “First, help me get the tools and remove all that junk from your bike!”
Tian Li blushed from the pat and glared at him coquettishly before going to fetch the tools.
Watching her back, Hua Tianyu asked Lin Lin, “I’ve never asked about Tian Li’s background. Can you tell me what happened? How did she switch from the racing association to your side?”
“Alright.” Lin Lin had nothing to hide and recounted the whole story.
It turned out Tian Li had been part of the racing association and was considered one of its beauties. As is often the case, someone took a fancy to her—a guy named Jia Wenle kept harassing her.
At first, Tian Li ignored him, but Jia Wenle only grew more persistent. Whenever Tian Li appeared at the racing association, he would buzz around her like a fly.
Unable to endure it any longer, Tian Li met Lin Lin one night at Starry Bar. Finding her and her friends decent, she decided to leave the racing association and join Lin Lin’s group.
