Chapter 116: One Hundred Thousand? I Scoff!
Qiu Jinghao had originally intended to hide among the crowd and find Jia Wenle to kill Hua Tianyu. He had not expected Hua Tianyu to spot him, let alone greet him and ask whether he had eaten braised pork.
A murderous glint flashed in his eyes, and he sneered inwardly: Since you recognized me, I might as well stand up front and see exactly how you die!
As for the braised pork? Once you are dead, I will shove you into the crematorium and add a bottle of the finest soy sauce myself. Then you can become braised pork!
With that thought in mind, he beckoned to his bodyguards. The two men answered at once and immediately forced their way through the crowd, clearing a path for Qiu Jinghao to the front row.
The onlookers knew nothing about Hua Tianyu’s wager of one million just moments earlier, but most of them had heard his exchange with Qiu Jinghao.
Now, as Qiu Jinghao’s bodyguards parted the crowd and pushed forward, some people recognized him. After all, in Shangjiang City, Qiu Jinghao was a prominent figure who appeared frequently in the major media outlets.
“Isn’t that the heir of the Qiu Group? He came too?”
“Young Master Qiu, I have a script here. Would you do me the honor of taking a look?”
“Who the hell pushed me? Why are you shoving?”
Qiu Jinghao paid no attention to the crowd’s enthusiasm. He had long since grown accustomed to being surrounded wherever he went.
Bai Zhenping, however, brightened the moment he saw Qiu Jinghao and practically ran over to him.
“Young Master Qiu, you’re here? Care to make a bet?” Bai Zhenping asked with extreme obsequiousness.
If Qiu Jinghao wagered one million on Che Peiqing’s victory, the offset would greatly reduce his risk.
Thus, Bai Zhenping kept his eyes fixed on Qiu Jinghao’s hand, desperately hoping that the young heir would toss him a bank card and let him process a one-million-yuan bet.
Qiu Jinghao gave him a haughty glance. Noticing that everyone around them was watching, he smugly pulled out a bank card and handed it over.
“One hundred thousand. I’m betting on Jia Wenle to win!”
Qiu Jinghao knew that in contests like this, people generally wagered only a few thousand, perhaps ten thousand at most. Even five thousand was considered a generous bet.
So, with everyone staring at him, he deliberately withdrew the card and announced “one hundred thousand” in a voice loud enough to attract attention.
As expected, the surrounding crowd erupted in astonishment when they heard the amount.
“Young Master Qiu truly lives up to his reputation as one of Shangjiang City’s richest men!”
“He throws down one hundred thousand at a time. No one but Young Master Qiu could do that!”
Under normal circumstances, Bai Zhenping would have marveled at Qiu Jinghao’s extravagance as well. For a small-time bookmaker like himself, one hundred thousand was no small sum.
But now, he secretly curled his lip.
One hundred thousand? You are the mighty heir of the Qiu Group, and you are betting only one hundred thousand? Even a mere driver put down one million!
And you call yourself the heir of the Qiu Group? Hmph, what a joke!
But with the two ferocious-looking bodyguards standing before Qiu Jinghao, Bai Zhenping did not dare voice his contempt. He could only force a smile, take the bank card, and go process the wager.
Qiu Jinghao’s interruption had delayed things, but the race was now more or less ready to begin.
Each of the three motorcycles had a girl riding pillion. Hua Tianyu’s passenger was Lin Lin. Jia Wenle found it strange that the one taking part was not Tian Li, but instead the senior hostess of Starlight Bar.
“Tian Li, why aren’t you riding yourself?” Jia Wenle shouted from atop his racing motorcycle.
Tian Li shot him a glance and answered with disgust, “What the hell is it to you?”
Jia Wenle was momentarily speechless, then turned his gaze toward Hua Tianyu.
Hua Tianyu ignored him, but Lin Lin answered in his place.
“What the hell is it to you?”
Jia Wenle: “...”
His anger twisted into a laugh. He thought bitterly: I was worried about accidentally hurting Tian Li. Well, this works out perfectly. You two can go die together. Leave Tian Li to me!
As he watched Tian Li walk off to one side, Jia Wenle’s eyes fixed on the checkered flag held by the race girl ahead.
The race girl was also part of the car club. In high heels and a miniskirt barely two palms long, she swayed her hips as she walked to the center of the road.
“Boss, are you ready?” she asked sweetly.
After receiving Che Peiqing’s affirmative reply, she suddenly swept the checkered flag downward.
Go!
That single wave of the flag instantly ignited the crowd’s hormones. The roar of the racing motorcycles and the screams of the spectators erupted at once.
The three bikes shot across the starting line almost simultaneously, but one second later, their order was already clear.
The Yamaha’s advantage in straight-line acceleration immediately became apparent. Within a few dozen meters, it had opened up a full bike-length lead over Hua Tianyu.
As the three motorcycles sped away, the scene instantly erupted.
Aside from Tian Li, Qiu Jinghao, and Bai Zhenping, who were all unusually concerned about the outcome, nearly everyone present had placed a bet on the race.
Now the three of them stared intently at the motorcycles. The winner and loser would soon be revealed.
The moment Hua Tianyu fell behind, some spectators grew excited.
“Haha, is that guy riding a Jialing an idiot?”
“How is he supposed to compete at that speed? He lost a bike length right at the start!”
“I thought there was something special about that Jialing. Looks like the result is settled!”
Although the race had only just begun, these people spoke as though it were already over. Even the few who had tried to win big by betting on Hua Tianyu began to look gloomy.
Seeing that they had gained a full bike length right from the start, the girl riding behind Jia Wenle even stood up and wiggled her hips twice at Hua Tianyu before raising her middle finger.
The sight immediately pushed Lin Lin’s temper to the brink.
“Hua Tianyu, if you’re a man, overtake him!”
Hua Tianyu merely smiled faintly and did not answer.
It was only the start. What was there to hurry about? This race was not made up entirely of straightaways. There were plenty of turns ahead, and because the course ran through the city, there were also numerous narrow lanes.
Given the enormous difference in performance between the motorcycles, a Jialing that could only be left one bike length behind on the straight was nothing to fear. With that level of skill, Jia Wenle was fit only to follow behind Hua Tianyu and eat his dust.
The first turn was wide and arrived only a few hundred meters after the start.
Che Peiqing and Jia Wenle were now nearly riding side by side. For the members of the car club, this route was utterly familiar.
They would not dare boast about much else, but they had idled along this course dozens of times at the very least. They knew every braking point and every angle at which to lean into each turn as if they had drawn the route themselves.
They had now reached the braking point. Their movements were almost identical: both released the throttle and tapped the brakes lightly. The two Yamahas, which had been roaring at full speed, slowed slightly.
As he reduced speed, Che Peiqing listened to the roar of the Jialing behind him. Jia Wenle glanced at it through his rearview mirror.
To their surprise, the Jialing, which they had expected to slow down, showed almost no change in the roar of its engine. In the mirror, the distance between the bikes was shrinking at astonishing speed.
Che Peiqing even heard Hua Tianyu whistling.
